chimera
I can get some Ohlin DFV coilovers for a reasonable price, 2nd hand but look to be in good condition. Anything to look for? Anyone else running them and can comment? Cheers
bigBADbenny
Determine if the units are Swedish or Japanese. (same valving, different mounting hardware and tools afaik) Ohlins USA for Swedish service, you may need a specialist for servicing the Japanese units due to the need for special tools. Ohlins Japan can supply replacements lock rings and boots (I checked with the NZ disty) I had them sourced locally from a motorbike racing workshop (!) Make sure the bump stops are in good condition, at least on the rears which are visible under the boots. If they are hardened and crumbly they apparently can damage the shafts which may require polishing. If the rears are deteriorating, the fronts may need to be disassembled and the bump stops checked and replaced. The camber plates should be stripped to reveal the top bearing, if the bearing is stuck in the carrier, the carrier and or the bearing may need to be straightened or replaced, and the camber plates should be checked for straightness too. For peace of mind get them shock dyno'd. I strongly recommend dealing direct with a workshop that has it's own shock dyno, so your parts don't get lost in the process and you cut out middlemen... Here's a link to mine: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjW6hScS This is what I went through with my set, -camber plate and bearing carrier straightened (I had a very skilled friend do this, gratis) -bump stops replaced f&r -1x shaft micro polished -boots replaced f&r -gas pressures tested (rears re-gassed) -shock dyno'd Total cost $520, I probably got well looked after price wise, thanks - after which they were still a very good deal and a bargain for the person I'm selling them to. I was also warned that had I not had them checked they would have deteriorated quickly requiring a full tear-down service.
hobo2701
I've got a set straight from sweden. I'm located in CA i got them through PSI out of sonoma raceway. i absolutely love them. I've got around 45K on them the dampers are still holding good. but I'm proly gonna send them in soon for a professional rebuild i know my bearings are starting to not be as stiff. but can't go wrong with ohlins. chimera
Apparently word from Ohlin's Sweden, is they're not being made anymore because of low volume sales.
bigBADbenny
According to the Australian distributor, they are available BTO with a $500 order/stocking fee on top of the RRP. This prompted a local club member to order DMS for $5k plus... A local startup called Shockworks has begun BP/BL coilover development with inverted fronts and 2 way damping on the menu. Will post progress on both items
