Changing differential fluids?

Recommended Posts

I'm coming up on 88k miles on my 06 legacy. I'm the second owner - bought the car around 75k, but i'm not sure if the first owner ever changed the differential fluid. Should I change it anyway? if so, which is the recommended fluid for it? What is the milage interval it should be changed at? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you should definitely change them. I would recommend using Subaru Extra-S for the trans and diff. Your local dealership may carry it and if they don't many of the vendors here can get it for you. As for the interval, I like to change mine every 30K or so.

What tranny 5mt or 5eat ?

5eat takes different fluid.

Exrta-S is the best stuff for the front diff and rear diff or all diffs on mt cars. (mt=manual transmission)

change is every 30,000 miles.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.
