subikid90
It is for the power steering pump. Someone probably changed out the pump with another style and just taped up the wires. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
Idaho subaru
Both are correct. I was junkyarding today and saw a pump with the sensor in it. Thought about picking it up, but didn't. So now I'm wondering why I don't have a light or CEL, without the sensor connected to anything?
mailman
apparently no lights, just affects idle speed? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/131929-power-steering-sensorswitch/

Idaho subaru
Well, it has taken awhile, but I have managed to clean up the forester. Took the seats out, it may seem staged, but I did not add/remove or move anything except the seats. http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj605/Idahorec/Odds%20and%20ends/D415B435-8DB2-4DFE-905C-02679A981BD1_zps9hwku3ou.jpg http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj605/Idahorec/Odds%20and%20ends/B6DE3B66-A377-4A33-92A0-94980DDBCFC6_zpssxabj1i0.jpg At this point I'm seriously considering TexasLegacy2.5's recommendation to just replace the carpet. But thinking it might be cleanable, until I start cleaning and discover........ http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj605/Idahorec/Odds%20and%20ends/C151FB4B-3C62-4AE6-A5B3-9F9077DA0F70_zpscpxzjn97.jpg BUGS! Live little crawly bugs, like you find in old rice or cereal. They were living large on all those food stores under ALL the seats! As soon as I started scraping stuff, they started to scatter. So, the carpet had to go! http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj605/Idahorec/Odds%20and%20ends/DA9B4854-FACB-4287-87D9-1025A3B17BAD_zpstftvgthr.jpg I knew there was a 2000 forester at the pick and pull that had gray carpet, so I went and picked it up, cleaned it up, repaired where someone had cut it, and installed. http://i1270.photobucket.com/albums/jj605/Idahorec/Odds%20and%20ends/985700B7-8085-4042-A13F-A5C5A7356F51_zpsqekaqdjr.jpg I also spent 4 hours using an extractor on the seats, they came out fairly well. I'm pretty content with the results. I also replaced the shifter surround with one that was in better shape, and spent another 2-3 hours cleaning the center console, dash, and all the other hard trim pieces. I have since removed all the tint, and will be re tinting them shortly. I'll post more picks later.
