I thought about it and I am getting 2 sets of manifold flanges cut I was intending to make a kit for the EZ30 to sell. For right now I don't think I want to supercharge it. I think the power bump I'm going to get through this round of mods will be pretty nice and if I SC the mpg will go to shit and this is my daily after all. The MP90 is nice but I gotta look into it more its huge and hood clearance may be an issue which is fine you could cowl the hood but if I make something to sell I have to make sure I address everything. I honestly think the MP90 is too big for the 36 being that is has asymmetrical arms> Raptor makes a kit that adds I think around 60-70whp at 5-6psi and its pretty close to price I wanted to sell this kit for so maybe just get their SC and mounts and then make my own intake, intercooler system in the future.

But that's a side project at best to make money to fund my MR2 war machine because my EZ30R now belongs to someone else, so I will only have time to locate the supercharger, manifold flanges, and throttle body flange and then it will be done off a support jig for clearances. I should still be able to test fit it in my car if I finish it to fab the intake and double check mounts, hose hookups and clearance.

On a side note I am adding one more project to the Legacy. So as you may have seen I have an MR2 and over the winter I am planning some pretty extensive mods to it over the winter with the end goal to use it as a dedicated race car. The main mods include:

Redoing the Rear Crossmember to allow higher ground clearance, and longer lower suspension arms with higher points to retain an optimal suspension geometry after a full body drop.

Redoing the Rear Lower Suspension Arms and Tie Rods to allow camber/ caster/ toe adjustments using high quality oversized Hyme Joints for heavy abuse.

Adding Upper Suspension arms and Shock Style Struts (from an FRS) to improve the suspension design and add dynamic camber as the wheel travels up for high speed cornering.

Cutting off the Front end to redo it in a full tube front end to allow the new front suspension and aero changes.

Redoing the front suspension to have upper and lower arms and relocating the shocks (FRS again so they are same as rear for simplicity) inboard so I have better adjustability, lower center of gravity as well as more room to run the 18x10 front wheels.

Modifying the Rear Knuckles to run a Modified Bored out STi Front Rotor and EVO 8 Front Calipers. A hydraulic e-brake, and Bias Controller will be added as well.

Fabricating New Front Knuckles to run an EVO X front bolt on bearing, rotor and caliper along with adding fine tune roll center adjustment.

I will also be adding 3-4” to the front wheel base to the car to make it more sable for high speed cornering. That will obviously require extensive modification to the front end of the cars aero but they don’t make cool functional stuff for the MR2s anyways so I will be Swapping the Front Bumper, Wide Fenders, and Flushmount Headlights from an RX7 to my tube front end which work great because it’s a front engine car has a longer nose and they make functional race aero. I will integrate the front/sides of the RX7 fenders to the top/back of the MR2 fenders so it lines up to the body seamlessly and then modify the hood to tie everything in. The hood will have a reverse vent integrated into it to duct all the air from bumper to the radiator, and then out to aid with down force.

The rear aero I will be adding widebody quarters and then on top of that I will be adding a set of the fender flares I installed on the Lego to get an overall added width of 3” per side on the front and 3.5” per side in the rear to run the 18x12-10 on 315/30/18 tires rear and 18x10+20 on 275/35/18 on the front. The front arms will be longer to put the wheels at the perfect offset w/o any spacers. Rear might need a spacers on my CV axles if I need to lengthen the arms but they are flange type so that should be pretty easy to do. Rear bumper will remain stock but cut at the midpoint to allow for a fully custom rear diffusor with center exit exhaust. Rear Wing is a Voltex Carbon wing with the trunk notched so it can be mounted to the frame rails of the car and hang off the back for better airflow and the trunk should still be able to open all the way in front of it.

Other mods include a Full 3SGTE swap (Gen 2) with forged internals, custom header, downpipe, intercooler and pipes, intake, intake manifold. I also got a set of super rare scoops that grab air from the roof and bring it into the engine bay which I am modifying to work with a roof lip spoiler and have bigger scoops. The rear engine cover is a reverse vent style like what I am using for the hood so the lip will help the rear wing stay in air steam and create low pressure over engine so the reverse vent can suck hot air out.

Rollcage, racing seats, fire suppression, will be added but I’m going to keep amenities like a stereo, heater, interior trim/ panels cuz I will still prolly drive it on the street a lot to auto x events and car meets, shows etc.

Sorry for the long novel but now we get to the project that involves the lego (figured you might want some back story lol). Since I am doing all this work to the MR2 to be a full race car I wanted to have a paintjob that fit the part. I didn’t want to paint it one color and then cover it in vinyl of sponsors I don’t have because I don’t need them since I can do it all my self (cept for tires….). I have been getting back into drawing and it’s been a lot of fun. With my wrist being compromised my time spent on cars has been limited to just my own things to prolong my abilities to work on them so obviously I need something else to fill my time. My plan is to do a fully custom paintjob on the MR2 with Anime and Japanese inspired scene. I will be finishing the Aero/ Suspension/ and Brakes and then doing the body work at my buddies shop. We are going to paint the car white and do one coat of clear where I will get it home and stuff the entire car down and map out the design in pencil and then start masking and lining everything out to paint. Start off with base colors and then go back in with an airbrush with tinted up or down colors to add detail and depth. It’s a huge huge undertaking so when it’s done, I will take nice pics of the car and scan the images so I can reprint and panels in vinyl if I screw them up. I only have limited experience with airbrushing but I’m confident I can pull it off and it won’t look like crap lol. However I am not a man of faith, and I believe in proof of concept and testing need to be done before going all in on something that huge so…. I will be doing a test run of my ideas on painting detailed art on the hood of my Legacy. I will most likely get a spare hood so I can drive my car and if it comes out awesome, I will swap the Hood onto the Lego. If not I will sand it back down and sell it and then reconfigure my MR2 design to be printed and wrapped.

I have already started on the concept art for the MR2 and the Legacy Test I will post progress (regarding the legacy) as I have it. Cleaned out my shop now so I have lots of room to work. I am using a reference picture for my drawing on the Legacy so I have something I can compare it too to make sure I can do this to the quality I expect so it doesn’t look like one of those shitty city portraits you see on clapped out lowriders… lol

Plans in the shop this weekend so progress pics soon.

Later.

Hey all so a bit of a little update. I finally figured out how I’m going to get this tuned. I will be using a hybrid setup using the stock ECU and then adding a Haltech 2500 Elite on top as sort of a piggyback system. The Stock ECU will talk to the Tranny AC and CAN Bus system and the Haltech will Run the engine. I am waiting to hear back from them they are looking at my ECU pin-out diagrams I made to send the ECU with a base map and a diagram for the sensor outputs to run the variable timing.

On another note I made a bit of progress on the engine. I got my flanges from the water jet finally. I drew these by tracing a scan of the stock gaskets and they fit perfectly. I made the throttle body opening wider if I ever want to add the Skunk 2 or Boomba Racing Throttle bodies.

Next I finished up the template on the manifold in cardboard and transferred it to some stainless. I will cut it out this weekend.

I will be adding a flange to hold a 3 pane Lexan cover to the top of the manifold so you can see all the prettiness inside. This is kind of what it will look like with the glass.

Lastly I wanted to make a bit of an announcement. I have been pushing hard into doing more art in my spare time and I’m getting the point where I am feeling like I am good enough maybe switch careers and make art and cars my life. I have been doing piping design now for about 6 years and I can confidently say that its boring and hell and I hate it. In either case this winter I will be working on the MR2 to combine both my art and mechanical skills together to either use as a rolling portfolio to start my own business or to try and get a hired as a contract worker for car and art stuff. I adopted a Pen name to start my art business and I already own the domain name for a website I will be building. I sent out forms to trademark both my Pen Name and my Business Name so we will see where it goes.

My first step is to start doing car portraits with or without an anime girl posing on it. Show cars, race cars, reg cars to anyone that’s interested in getting something done. This will be the last build thread I post under this name from now on any future posts will be by my other name Dead Mr. and eventually I will start trying to sell commission for custom car portraits after I have drawn an assortment of cars I have built to show more examples of what people can expect.

If any of you are interested in anything in the future let me know I’m just starting out so I’m cheap… lol. This is an example I did of myself (first serious attempt):

This is another all original I did for starting up my new Pen name.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/anime/image_zps9dbgk3yf.jpg

Also if you like me, I just setup a page for my art on FB and I invite you to like and follow it if you like. I’d appreciate the support. J

Anyways that’s all I got. I have a request pin-up girl drawing I need to finish tonight and after that I’m going to take a break from drawing to get most of the fab on the lego done by the weekend and maybe even running (sorta) on the stock ECU since that is the first step to integrating the Haltech.

I can't wait to see the manifold done. Looks awesome so far. If you need any help machining or fabrication wise for some of your custom pieces shoot me a pm or something and I'd be happy to help :) I love seeing custom stuff.

Do you have access to a water or plasma table? I intend to make all of the parts for my MR2's suspension upgrades in cad and have them cut from steel and the place I had these flanges cut was kinda steap but I needed them done. Maybe we should chat. PM me if you want there are a few things we could work on together.

Great taste in cars ;)

I have had a lot of cars in my life. 500whp WRX wagons, my wonderful 2nd gen legos, AE86s, Prerunner Style Exploder, etc... But I have to say the 2 best cars I have ever owned are the 2 I currently own now. I love my Legacy and MR2 they are the best at what I need them for. Fun in the sun, zippy little racer MR2, and sexy fast, smooth, sophisticated all year killer Legacy. Every once in a while I need a truck but if i make the trailer for my lego then I literally will never need another car...

In the next year I may need to thin down my stable due to kicking off my art stuff and if i had to choose one right now I would sell the MR2, but once I redo the MR2 this winter the car I will actually be selling will definetly be the Legacy and that will hurt to see it go... I will own another one in the future so more then likely I will pull off all the Bits I'm making for after I move if I leave the country, but if I don't I envision I will keep both of these cars for a very long time.

Hey all. So I got some update action. It was a good weekend in the shop. My Haltech Elite 2500 showed up but I will have a special post just for all that stuff but this weekend was all about fabrication.

The first thing to do was to take the cardboard template I made and transfer it to stainless.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zps6poxmg4l.jpg

After that it took a good while getting everything to fit but Saturday ended up with something that looked like a manifold… lol

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpslik7xqhm.jpg

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpsoohpvjv8.jpg

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zps38kfiprh.jpg

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpsokj2q2pb.jpg

The next was getting it transferred to fitting to the EZ36. I cut off the temp flanged I made and set it of the EZ36 and tacked them to the good ones I had waterjet cut and everything lined up perfectly. The next step was to add the pieces for the throttle body.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpswpx6y4fr.jpg

I found this on ebay. Made out of stainless and can be bought for many different sized pipes this was perfect for mounting my MAF as part of the intake design to avoid wasting space with having to use an aluminum one with couplers.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpsd1h5fbtm.jpg

As you can see this manifold is rather large, but it just fits. Plenty of room under the hood doesn’t hit any of the accessories so basically as large as possible without causing an issue.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpsvyebfykk.jpg

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpsisexfbp2.jpg

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zps2m75s84c.jpg

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpscswxyxi9.jpg

Lastly I will be adding points to mount a pulley cover, and a cover for the y-pipe for my intake. I was hoping originally there would be enough room to have a nice smooth bend into the MAF but the pipe I got doesn’t curve sharp enough so I’m going to make a custom smooth flow y-pipe. If this was a turbo then this wouldn’t be the best design but since it’s just suction and it double the flow into the MAF as a single pipe the engine will be able to get more than enough air into the manifold and the runner heading in is longer so that will help with flow. The dual intake filters obviously is overkill but it looks cool so why not. I also be using this eBay strut bars mounts to make my own custom center brace that has a brace for the brake master.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpspsutwvqg.jpg

The Pink is the Intake design. It will be one piece and will rigid mount to the manifold since there is no flex to mount to the engine bay.

The Orange is the strut bar. It’s a little over exaggerated but I wanted it to look big and cool so I can stick a nice logo on it. There will be a hole so I can fill the brake master res without taking the bar off. As far as function… It will be stronger than this eBay one, but I honestly don’t really need much bracing as I’m still intending to use stock sways and have a comfier daily ride.

Blue is what will be the Cover for the pulleys and a cover for the Y-pipe/ MAF of the intake. I will weld tabs to the manifold to hold these pieces so the engine should look pretty high class and clean with its done and it will also allow me to get away with having to smooth grind all the welds on my manifold down… lol

The green is the design for the clear Lexan windows I want to put in the top of the manifold so you can see those sexy stacked runners. I will be making a new top using 3/8” square tubing and some 1” flat bar to make a flange for bolting the Lexan to the manifold. I will be using RTV in the corners to seal it and the Lexan itself is also 3/8” thick so it is more than capable of withstanding the suction of the manifold. The Lexan I will have laser cut so it’s perfect and I will prolly laser a cool design to the backside to give it some personal flare. I’m also prolly in the future going to add some cool LED lighting inside the manifold to show off the runners and highlight the frosted design in the Lexan.

Well that’s all I got for this update. I’m still talking to Haltech about exactly how it should be wired in but for now I know I need to reconfigure the stock engine harness to connect all the similar bits between of the 2 engines so theoretically I should be able to get the stock ECU to run the EZ36 w/o variable cam timing. Which is where the piggyback style of this ECU will work but from what I have seen about eh 2500 this setup should work as good as stock and have way more adaptability if I decide to turbo or supercharge or swap a manual into it.

Next update I hope to have a finished engine bay and be working on the interior and wiring fingers crossed. I still have a fair amount to fabricate and do (intake, covers, strut bar, AC pump bracket, battery tray, mod the exhaust hanger and weld in the exhaust tips, install oil catch can, fuel filter, plumbing, fluids etc… LOL)

On a site note, I finished 2 more drawings for my Dead Mr. endeavor and I’m working on a drawing that will be the “under construction” page for my website while I build the site. I balled out and got a Drawing Display and a Scanner to touch up my drawings for printing poster size and for doing digital stuff to my art for the website. I also got a nice table to be my new “dedicated drawing space” since I’m taking the plunge to seriously take on my drawing. MR2 is still in parts mode but my buddy has almost finished fitting some of the crappier fitting parts to my other shell so as soon as the lego is drivable the MR2 project will kick off.

We needed the Legacy for our new doggy, but it has been so handy to have for DIY / trailering / bikes etc. My previous 2 cars were MR2s. '96 NA now '96 GTS.

I couldn't sell the MR2, so my wife now drives it (byebye Corolla).

I have all these performance parts for the MR2 in the garage but I can't bring myself to modify a stock gen3.

I am one of the very very few that has a rack for my MR2... lol made it myself, and its the greatest thing ever to be be heading the Whistler in a car that looks like that with the tops off and 2 DH bikes that together are cost 3x more then the cars worth lol. Soon it will be full race car mode with a giant funtional wing and covered in an amazing full cover anime style painted graphic but I'll still Rock the rack when I want lol its looks awesome.

Hah sounds awesome. I will be on the look-out for pics.

I used to put my Reign in the front seat of the 2, with one wheel and the seat in the boot. Scratched my dash up quite a bit.

Hey yall. Got a little update but not much to show cuz it was a lot of the tedious behind the scenes clean up.

Sealed up the Manifold

Modified the Bracket to align the Stock EZ30 A/C Pump with the EZ36 Belt Drive (brackets were different)

Cleaned up my shop and consolidated all the remaining parts to fab and modify

Prepped the old EZ30 to go to my buddy as part of my deal with him so now the EZ30 has gone to its new home.

Stripped the Harnesses to start making the conversion harness to run the EZ36

Ordered a few last min parts for the fuel system to make a custom delivery system because the stock manifolds hard lines will obviously not fit and I wanted to add a post tank fuel filter.

However I did make some progress what was worthy of note.

Started by finishing the Y-pipe/ MAF Adapter

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpshcifsltx.jpg

Also once I Had that done I could get to fabricating the intakes and they came out pretty awesome. Both are within an 1/8” of being the same length and are 3”. As I said before these are kinda overkill for the engine but they look cool and sometimes form over function is more fun. I bet its gonna sound awesome too.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zpsno4uctff.jpg

Anyways I’ll keep plugging away on more of the tedious stuff and take pics but I’m starting to reach the end of my to-do list and I will be making a huge push to at least start this thing by the end of the upcoming weekend.

Another update next week with hopefully a startup video lol.
