kingleon77 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Any recommendations on aftermarket catalytic converters? Stock=$1200 Driver side $900 Passenger side. Ouch!!!
GEE-OTTO Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 You must have spider exhaust a typical 05 (RS style) cat section is under $300 new (Walker exhausts)
Wheelbuilder_25 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I thought cats had a 10 year warranty as part of the emissions thing ? Or is that only a pzev thing ?
kingleon77 Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 Way over the warranty, it is ridiculous how much they want for stock exhaust! Of course this is the only year Subaru came out with this year. None of the aftermarket companies makes this year specific to fit. I tried maremount and I had to retrofit it to fit. Hoping someone could tell me the inlet or outlet size of the stock cats.
DonnyJagaru Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I thought all catalysts where basically the same? Can't you get a muffler shop to whip something up for you?
LongHiway Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I had my cat replaced last summer, 134 K miles on an '05 and, for free. Depends on where you live (I think). In Mass, the warranty went to 150 K miles. PS The loaner car was free also. It took the dealer a day to get the part(s).

Your car must have been built in early 2004 and been a "PZEV" to get that ridiculous exhaust option. Not sure what SOA was thinking. You have options: Buy OEM grade cats have a shop cut the bad one out and install the new ones. I/D and O/D for the cats are ~2.24 inches so a 2.25" cat I/O will work. Swap layouts and plumb in the O2 sensors down stream of the dual inline cat setup.
kingleon77 Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 I ended up going to the muffler shop and having the dood cut out the bad catalytic converter and put in a high flow for $350 on the Passenger side, which is $1300 just for the part at the dealer.
GEE-OTTO Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Not bad, you must have bough the cat from the shop for that overall price. But still its much cheaper than stealer prices.
