I Donated thefultonhow Posted December 9, 2013 I Donated Posted December 9, 2013 My RSB (Hotchkis) clunks. I have diagnosed the problem as the swaybar moving back and forth laterally (left to right and vice versa). My endlinks are tight, so it is unlikely they are the issue. Any ideas on how to stop the lateral movement?
SBT Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 We fixed Gonzo2186's Hotchkiss RSB yesterday with similar symptoms. Symptom: Clunking while moving. Assessment: Grab the SB and move it up/down and slightly side-to-side in the bushings. It seems the SB bushing holders that came with the GB are slightly over-sized for the bushings. Either that or the bushings have shrunk. Fix: Take them apart, clean and relube everything really well with SuperLubeAttach the top bolt for the bushing holder - slide it so that the bolt is in the bottom of the slot - tighten it downUse a large flat-blade screwdriver, and push in and up on the bottom of the bushing holder (in order to "squeeze" the bushing)While holding tension on the holder, tighten the bottom bolt.Issue resolved - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
I Donated thefultonhow Posted December 9, 2013 Author I Donated Posted December 9, 2013 I will try that and report back. But I'll wait until my garage dries out a bit from all the snowmelt first.
rice_rocket Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I recently had this problem and went with teflon tape on the RSB as someone recommended.. it has been quiet for 2 months maybe? I was told that it was around $20 for new bushings at autozone. I haven't found it yet.. but I'll certainly replace with new ones come spring.. or if the clunking comes back with a fury
SBT Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 It appears the problem on Gonzo's was that the bushing holder/mount allowed the bar to move around inside the bushings - bushings were very loose in their mounts which meant the bar was free to move around. You could literally grab the bar in the middle and hear the clunk as you push-pull-wiggled the bar around in the bushings. Perhaps adding teflon to the outside of the bushing would fill-up the space between the bushing and the holder/mount, and make for a tighter bushing. But, what we did above, at least in the short-term, seemed to have fixed the issue. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
instantfury Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 aren't there lateral locks just for that? http://www.rallysportdirect.com/Whiteline-KLL122-22mm-Sway-Bar-Aluminum-Lateral-Lock-Kit
SBT Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 If lateral issues are the only concern, then collars will work to alleviate that. It's possible that the bushing holder sizing v-a-v the bushing itself is the issue. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -

CrowNaza86 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Still quiet on my ride. I suggest doing what SBT and I did first.
.Catalyst. Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 if that doesn't work, just install a second RSB and zip tie them together My spec.B [#163] Project Thread with Pictures Get CryoTuned!
