Worst and Best Car you have ever Driven

Recommended Posts

So after watching the Top Gear special: "The Worst Car In The History of the World," I began to think about what I consider to the worst and best cars. Well obviously the only way to judge the worst car is by actually driving it.

So I was wondering what you guys say about the Worst and the Best cars you have ever driven.

So Post your best and worst car and a little information about why.

Try to be sensible about it, Try to compare Apples to Apples, and try remember that vehicles should get better and better all the time, so it might not be fair to pick an older vehicle. That older vehicle may have been one of the best cars of the day but compared to modern cars it is total crap.

I will start. Most of my car driving experience is with rental cars, so I could list a bunch of crappy ones.

Worst: 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer.

Why: Because it was very cheap, very uncomfortable, I spent most of my time driving trying to adjust my seat to get comfortable, it had no power, and the absolute worst part: I swear to god it took a 1/8 of a mile to go from 60 to zero.

Best: 2013 Buick LaCrosse

Why: It had plenty of power with no torque steer, extremely comfortable cooled seats, very smooth ridding yet it cornered very well, best stock sound system I have ever heard, it had lots of high end luxury options without the high end luxury price.

Best - 73 Honda Civic. Light, tossable, you could drive by a cop feeling like you're going 100 mph (but you're only going 40) and they would never notice you. Great fun.

Worst - 73Chevy Vega. Underpowered, horrible transmission, gastly uncomfortable, fell apart beginning the day my mother brought it now brand new, from oil leaks to electrics.

Worse car was my 98 mitsubishi Eclipse, no power, and lowered so I went through a lot of oil pans.

Best, 3 way tie. My 2012 Durango. Absolutely love this suv, drives nice, good acceleration, hauls 7 people.

My last two are kind of a of I could put the two together it would be my favorite.

My 2006 lgt and 2005 lgt. My 06 I bought brand new (no longer have) was very nice and I kept it in good shape. Sold it for financial reasons, but I really loved that car, which brings me to my 05 that I have now.It is not as clean as my 06, but it is much fafaster. It's got a 20g and e85.

Once I get the cloth switched over to leather, it on coil overs instead of Springs, a jdm radio kit in there and the idle fixed (long story) it will be my favorite. Oh and ive owned 21 vehicles:

1. 1990 Chevy Cavalier

2. 1997 Chevy Cavalier

3. 1999 Ford Ranger

4. 1979 Mazda RX7

5. 2000 Olds Alero

6. 1987 Lincoln Town Car(Jens)

7. 1999 Dodge Avenger ES

8. 1989.5 Jeep Wrangler

9. 2005 Suzuki SV650

10. 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse*

11. 1996 Infinity Q45*

12. 2006 Subaru Legacy GT

13.1996 Mazda MX6(Jens)

14.1992 Nissan Skyline GTS4*

15. 1996 Mitsubishi Galant

16. 2004 Mazda RX8

17. 2006 Saab 97x

18. 2010 Kawasaki Ninja 250r

19. 2012 Dodge Durango

20. 2001 Chevy Silverado

21. 2005 Subaru Legacy GT

Worst - Mercury Lynx (ford escort look-a-like) - 3 speed auto with about 85 horsepower and the worlds mushiest suspension +13 inch tires...powder blue to boot.

Best - 2011 Grandsport Vette at VIR - redlined 4th at 137mph on the back straight.

Worst: 1987 Plymouth Horizon. Terrible, terrible acceleration and handled worse than it accelerated.

Best: My current car. :) The V8 growl alone is would make it the best. But the handling, technology and comfort is also really nice.

Honestly, between the few cars I've owned, I haven't really had a "bad" one.

Two eco cars, one, luxury car, a van, and the Legacy.

All were reliable and good for what they were.

I'm relatively happy I'm not driving the van anymore as a 35 gallon tank that was averaging 300 miles (mostly city) would kill me. $600+ a month in gas expenses would be harsh. Still, it ran well, was fun to drive, and it had a fold out bed in the back.

...1967 Ford GT 40...

just thinking of this made thread for me.

worst: (by far) '87 olds cutlass ciera

dishonorable mention: '82? chysler e-class (it talked constantly about doors being ajar and washer fluid being low, thanks Lee Iacocca).

best: lgt, a few sharpened 70s vettes.

honorable mention: '90 buick regal limited custom (just so solid and pleasantly overbuilt in so many ways).

Worst: Just about any HMMV.

Best: E46 M3. Good combination of handling, power, and relatively strait forward technology and driver interface. Fun car to drive, and one that I wouldn't have any reservation about driving every day.

I'd say the same thing about a Porsche 996 variant 911, as I liked the one I was able to drive but didn't get a long drive in it and once price is factored in I would rather have the E46 M3.

I am also a huge fan of the E39 BMW 5 series, particularly the M5 and the 540i with sport package.

Hard to beat the E46 M3. I almost picked that as my number one.

Worst: probably a Pontiac Sunfire rental my brother had when he was visiting my dad and me for a few months about 12 years ago. It never up and died, but it was a wheezy bitch, the interior was shoddier than any car I've seen before or since, and as a whole it had less character than a CGI orc.

Best: '87 Carrera. It has a beast of a clutch with a super high pickup point, unassisted steering, and it stranded me on the side of the road one time (DME relay, if you speak Porsche), but every time I get to drive it feels like a special occasion. It's air-cooled and at idle it sounds like a sewing machine playing a bass drum mezzo-piano. The brakes are superb. The engine doesn't have a lot of torque but it loves to rev. You're so low to the ground (and the visibility is so good) that it always feels like you're going faster than you are, and it wants to go faster yet.

And if you try to get too cute with it in a corner it still has enough old-school Porsche DNA that it tries to fucking kill you.

sorry...this forum practically blows goat nuts so im not always on here.
