Ignition Coil for 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5L (non-turbo)

Recommended Posts

Is there a preferred brand of ignition coils for these cars?

Does anyone have experience with BWD/Intermotor?

With coupons I can get it down to ~$80 (from $140) and the reviews look decent but there are only 2 reviews.

The other brand that I see a lot is Beck/Arnley but the reviews on all of the sites are pretty mixed; the reviews are split between "these are the best things ever!" and "these failed in 2 days."

Any suggestions? Any other brands I should look into?

See what the price of a OEM one is. Sometimes there are just a few dollars more.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

Both BWD/Intermotor and Beck-Arnley are source/re-packagers. Rarely will you find anything in their package besides the OE parts. BWD/Intermotor is Borg-Warner and they will not make something that they can purchase. Beck-Arnley also doesn't make anything-they either contract for something to be manufactured or they source it from the OE supplier and put it in their own box and part number.

Yep! They both have the OEM one and it's about $125 (so less than BWD retail but about $45 more than BWD after coupon).

I don't mind paying the extra $45 but I figured if the BWD worked just as well then it'd be nice to spend that $45 on a new set of wires instead.

:D

  • 1 year later...

bumping this thread instead of starting a new one...for the turbo engine this time though. I've got a bad OE coil that I need to replace. I'm a sucker for reliability and always want the best. I'm going to replace all four just to be safe.. I see three different brands at advance...

-BWD

-Wells

-Beck/Arnly

Which is the best? Also, does anyone make an upgraded stronger coil? I like overkill if it means more reliability. I travel alot and don't like to be stranded places.. :)
