It's the bolt pattern to match the hub that will probably work/not work... BUT the '04 STi part is $25 vs. $62, so it definitely seems like it's worth having a further look into it.

Thanks for that. Maybe we get lucky and it's the same as the $15 STi rad mounts vs. the $50 LGT rad mounts?

Not the same part number for hubs from Rockauto... but the difference might not be all that big? Is it worth the $25 gamble?

'04 STis use the same 5x100 bolt pattern. It's why swapping front rotors and calipers (with an acceptable bracket) is so easy.

The only difference, that I can imagine, between the STi vs LGT front dust shields would be obviously the larger diameter STi shields, and a larger opening for Brembo calipers. Don't quote me though.

Way back before my GC was turbocharged I went out and played in the twisties with someone who had a GC with an ez30 swap.  My car was auto, his manual, and he claimed he had a difficult time keeping up with me in some sections, even having more power.

Knowing how to drive and to use your car efficiently has a lot to do with it. It's a shame you can't go out and play like this anymore, way too many people.

    Someone who gets it!

Btw we play like that every single weekend, and more in the summers. Specifically, on that very road. I know I've sent the invite to you too. Shoot, I was driving that road every night in November of 2023. And even had @Captain Redbeard@boxkita, and a bunch of the cars throughout my build thread there for a few runs before taking off on vacation in December.

    Come out next time!

Highlighted times were the best of our four morning runs. I came 6 out of 21.

I will never claim my EJ253 is fast, but since @KZJonny brought it up lol, this was my standing at one of the AutoX events last summer. Not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison. And although the ppl I drive with don't time our uphill/downhill runs in the mountains, I'm still successfully punching above my weight.

OP please yield to everything said in this thread. 90's JDM twin turbos are expensive to keep up with, and high maintenance. Add the headache and expense of swapping, and not a lot of ppl want to invest the effort that you're discussing.

However, if you pull it off, I'm here to see it!

  4. Welcome to the forums Livanda! Please take some time to visit the New Members section and give a small intro.

As for alternative temp sensor locations, I have an auxiliary coolant temp gauge mounted, and I plumbed into the back of the coolant cross over pipe. I, too, wanted to maintain my factory coolant temp sensor. On the pipe, catty-corner on the other side of the factory sensor, you will find additional metal real estate from the casting. This proved to be a great spot to drill and tap for 1/8 PT sending unit.

If you decided to go another route, any one of the ports you plug a block heater into would suffice, so long as you had the right conversion plug to fill it, so the new plug could take a temp sensor.

Here is an example of what my set up looks like for my water temp gauge:

Coolant temp gauge circled in yellow above.

The red circle is where I tapped. And the red arrow shows the route I took with the wires.

I'm new here and I just got my first Subaru. I ended up getting a 2010 Legacy GT Wagon. Now, guys, I just want to ask if it's worth it to swap my automatic transmission into a 6-speed manual transmission. Alternatively, should I sell my LGT and get a WRX Impreza?

By the way, here in Asia, I can easily find the parts needed for the swap, so sourcing them is not a problem. The cost of parts and labor for the installation is what I'm considering. It might cost me the same as a used WRX Impreza with a 5 or 6-speed manual transmission in mint or pristine condition.

Before going down the route of this swap, I would appreciate your suggestions, advice, and kind opinions.

    Thank you in advance.

Ooh, an easy answer. Yes! Sell it, and get "a used WRX Impreza with a 5 or 6-speed manual transmission in mint or pristine condition."

Just an update.  It's been just over 8 months since my short block replacement in the spec.B.  Oil and coolant remain in their respective confined areas, and no fluid losses. the learning view continues to be stellar--IAM = 1.0, absolutely no knock detected, and only minor temporary fuel corrections.  The more I drive it the more I get attached to it.

Looking at replacing the trans fluid eventually, and I know brakes are coming due.  Still have yet to see another B in my area (Tacoma/Puyallup WA), but most Subaru guys I know respond with, "spec what??".  haha.

I knew you were close, but I didn't know you were that close. Puyallup here too. And now that you mention it, I KNOW I've seen you on 512, bc I've only ever seen one Spec B in the area.

Is your either Spec B DGM or BSM?

My driver side climate control actuator is kaput. Stuck in fully open position blasting heat. Was OK in the winter but now that the temps are in their 50s during the day it has become a problem. Anyone have part ## for both? I recall reading that

    a) replacing driver side is more difficult

    b) some WRX actuators are 100% fit despite different part#.

Classic! The above should help. I had replaced my passenger side last fall, and had referenced this, and parts.subaru.com, for PN#s.

Did some searching and found the oil pan thread with part numbers and different combinations folks have used. I got the 06 oil pan part number. Think I’m just gonna use a iag pick up and 06 oil pan. Do you all just use the stock windage tray/baffle? TIA!

Fun fact: 2006 Outback 2.5i's also come with the same PN# of the desired STi pan. If you wanted one dirt cheap, I'm sure you could find one in a Pick n Pull.

I, too, grabbed my KB pick up and baffle under a packaged deal.
