The uppipe is in the exhaust.
-
You're welcome.
Those blades are nasty!! Do you still have an uppipe cat? It might be breaking up and do it to your new turbo.
-
You don't need to prime it again if you just pulled it off the car.
-
This is very well done except it just talks about pulling off.
I am stuck. For the life of me I can not get the oil return line back on.
Got some advice for putting turbo on - I mean order.
Basically, ya gotta line up the turbo to the studs on the up-pipe, the air inlet hose, and the oil return line.
Which do you do 1st, 2nd, 3rd?
Also, There is almost zero room to maneuver the oil return line. Thanks to another thread, I learned the trick about tying up the air inlet hose so as not to wrip it (as I did before learning that) but here I am stuck with the oil inlet hose.
So, there is a metal hose from the turbo, a metal hose coming up from the block and a rubber hose to connect them.
Do you connect it to the turbo first or have it connected to the bottom pipe first?
Hints/advice please
Thanks
Oil return first, air inlet last. I use a bent coathanger to pull the air inlet back on. The metal outlet should still be on the turbo, the hose should still be on the the inlet on the engine. Put the turbo onto the uppipe and slide the oil tube into the hose at the same time.

wrong thread

I did, it sucked. The pipe is being sold on Nasioc right now.

Sadly, the same parts! Stupid Helix EWG uppipe...

Do you torque everything to spec when reinstalling and retorque after a few heat cycles?
I retorque everything with my precision hand-ometer. That and a small bottle of Blue Loktite. I know roughly how much torque on each nut and bolt because I have done this about 10 times. But if you haven't done this a few times, I would suggest getting torque specs.
-
Thats already been done; this thread is about the turbo
Yeah, but his pics aren't edited with MSPaint goodness!
-
But wait, you mean to say that the uppipe will not come out from the top or bottom?
I don't have pics of this, but, remove the nut(s) from the passenger side motor mount and jack the engine up a bit on that side. The uppipe will slide right out.
-
Now remove the two uppipe bolts, lift the uppipe out from the top and you will truly be left with this. Remember the uppipe's lower gasket.

I believe the uppipe bolts can be removed without taking the O2 sensor out, but if you want to take it out, here's a way how. IIRC, that is a 22mm wrench.

Thats what Im getting at why remove the uppipe? If its not leaking dont mess with it
Maybe I can rename the thread 'How to (un)install the intercooler, downpipe, turbo and uppipe with pics'...

Back under the car, in front, we need to get access to the bottom two uppipe bolts. But the bolts are not accessible due to an exhaust manifold heat shield being in the way. So let's remove it.
Stupid undertray, let's move that a bit. Remove the fasteners located here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/wcbjr/DSC00443.jpg
There are four bolts holding the heat shield on. Here are two of the bolts, the other two are on the other side of the heat shield.

I remove the oil supply line from the flare joint so that you do not have to bend it.
Nice pics
Yeah, I know I should do that. Part of me wants it to break so I can install a braided line.
-
Why disconnect the 02 if you aren’t pulling the uppipe?
You should also remove the under tray sooner and drain the coolant.
Did you read any of the text, or just look at the pics?
-
From the top of the car, remove the two nuts holding the uppipe supports. The pic shows them from below, but get them from the top. Also, if you have an EGT sensor, remove that from the uppipe as well.

At this point the turbo should be removed. I don't have a good pic of the result, unfortunately.
Now onto the uppipe... and this gets real sketchy in the pic department.
-
Two things left. Jumping ahead in the pic sequence, reach down under the turbo and slide down the clamp that holds the lower oil hose on. It's easy, it's on the pipe shown here.

Now remember that line we disconnected up top? Bend that thing out of the way a bit, but only enough to pull out the turbo. I hate this part because I always hear of people breaking it. I save this part for the end.

In front of the turbo, there are a couple things we have to disconnect. The intake and a wastegate hose.
The intake hose can be loosened here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/wcbjr/DSC00452.jpg
You can't see it here, but there is a T in the wastegate hose a few inches from the arrow. Disconnect that.

Things got a bit sketchy here with my pics. I was in a rush to get out of the rain.
We need to get back up top in the engine bay. There are three nuts/bolts to be removed to loosen the turbo from the uppipe. The arrow points to the third not shown in the picture.

Pull the downpipe off and you'll be looking at something like this. Three things to note. First, the gasket still no the turbo, don't want to forget about that. Second, the bolt I have in the uppipe. That is where the stock EGT probe would be. And third, there is a better look at the lower coolant hose clamp we couldn't see before.

Okay, now climb under the car and get underneath the turbo and downpipe. You might have been able to reach this nut/bolt from up top, but if not remove it so the downpipe is no longer fastened to the turbo.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v334/wcbjr/DSC00446.jpg
Now go down to the other end of the downpipe and remove the two bolts that connect it to the midpipe. Remember the gasket.
