  1. Maybe it's just me, but your pics don't seem to be completely backing up your post because it looks to me like 2 different crankshafts pictured. For example the pic with the long block assembled appears to show a black/hardened crankshaft, but in the pic with the yellow cloth it's not black and the crank also looks used, you can see the old marks left behind from previously installed rear main seal and oil pump seals, doesn't appear to be a new crank.

Mind saving the picture and circling what you mean and upload it? Could just be the lighting.

Can confirm the crankshaft is new and has been balanced (that is why you see shaved metal parts).

  2. I need to get rid of the motor, so at this point that I am willing to do the following:

Buyer buys me a used stock ej255 with all components (minus turbo) and pays for labor (got quoted for 1K for labor). I am willing to pay for the tow to the shop.

In return, I will give you my built motor. Priced everything out and it will be about 3K-3.2K. You will be getting the built motor for dirt cheap. PM or text me. My number is above.

  5. can't go wrong with the 2.5 turbo. 2.5>2.0 in my opinion.

The gates kit is iffy, I run that, but I have an older one. Newer ones use cheap bearings. I think everyone uses some other company now. Look at the bearings and tensioner to see if its made in japan, I think the company is ntn, they make the good stuff.

Oil pump might be a bit to big, I would go with a 10 or 11mm. Here is a video from flatirons, the acl is probably good though because its modified a lil.

Otherwise it looks good, make sure you use assembly paste or lube everywhere, on the cylinder walls as well! And prime the engine with oil before starting, don't just try and crank it without the fuel pump. Get a 10 dollar garden sprayer from home depot and rig it to the front oil pressure stem, then turn the motor by hand several times. Like this:

Thank you so much for this information! I will check it out :)

  6. After saving and deciding and going back and fourth with what I want to do, I went for a fully built motor.

    EJ257 Block

    B25 Heads

    STI Crank

    VF52 (for now)

Ported, polished, and crank is balanced as well

Pictures attached as well as part list. Sorry for the bad quality pictures, something is wrong with the camera.

    Let me know your thoughts!

  7. I would not recommend swapping a 4EAT for 5EAT. I am sure the built transmission is tempting but it would be just making your life difficult.

Thanks for the response. Indeed it looks like a headache. I sent an email to iWire, and they told me this:

"Thanks for contacting us. The 5EAT and 4EAT do have very similar bolt on patterns, and will mate up to the engine. Unfortunately, that's where the similarities stop. The internal sensors and valve body are way too different to make it work. It would require a significant amount of modification, and really is out of our wheelhouse. We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we also want to be forthcoming in what projects entail.

Unfortunately, we don't sell any adaptors for this either. "

Looks like I will stick with a 5EAT and save up for a built 5EAT from IPT.
