  1. Oh, I agree with you, if you can find a 0% ethanol version 93 you'll absolutely get more everything out of a gallon of gas. I think that's impossible to find here in NJ, except for one Sunoco place down the shore where they actually sell 100 octane (for like $2 more a gallon than premium!)
  2. If your engine is tuned for 87, run 87. I believe any small gains in timing that you'd gain with 91/93 will be offset by the gas. 2 or 3 mpg over the tank is, at a 20 gallon tank completely on empty, around 40 to 60 miles. That's about 2 to 3 gallons of fuel. The cost difference for a tankful of 93 costs a lot more than 2 to 3 gallons of 87 octane as pointed out above. If you car is tuned to run 91/93, then I suggest you continue to run 91/93. While your car can probably get away with 87, the engine is probably retarding the timing to avoid detonation. If you have the capability to connect to a Bluetooth OBD and use an app like Torque to confirm your hp/torque, I'd be curious to see it.
  3. Yeah, I wouldn't mind having the 3.6 be an available option in the Ascent, but I'm sure Subaru is counting down the days until they kill the engine off. I also think it'll be a large success. As an ambassador I've had quite a few people asking for information about it, especially fuel requirement (87 vs 91/93) and price.
  4. I had them tell me the same for my CVT. I was concerned and skeptical about "lifetime" change interval. Basically, I heard back that there's a chance to disrupt any "particulates" in the bottom of the pan itself with a drain and fill, and even if you do the D&F, you're only going to get around 6 out of the ~11-12 quarts out of the transmission, so at best you're only looking at 50% new fluid... Transmission Fluid is a great "cleaner" - so it's possible that you could dislodge something from the pan that was otherwise "out of the way" and have it gum up the valve body, I guess, is their line of thinking.
  5. Yeah, I liked my Legacy. I had an 09 2.5, and I'm planning on getting a 3.6R either this spring or next depending on when they kill the engine. I commute through a city, I don't really want to stick my way through that (though I'm proficient.)
  6. I'm unfamiliar with the LGT... Is there a reason why the current model Legacy in the 3.6R trim isn't viable as a replacement? I could see needing a few performance/handling type mods, and obviously the H6 is much different than a turbo H4... Considering the bloat over time, I would think the modern WRX is actually closer to the Gen4 Legacy in body shape/interior space?
  7. That's interesting. I think around here, Diesel is around 30-50 cents more per gallon, which is around 10-15% more. I'm pretty sure you can go more than 10-15% farther on that same gallon of diesel, so it actually seems like a better "deal" in the long run.
  8. No, primarily because the emissions are more problematic compared to gasoline. There's still the EE series engine in Europe and Australia, but they do not meet USA Emissions Compliance.
  9. I think they're going to try to re-launch a Crosstrek with Hybrid option sometime in the near future. Will be interesting indeed to see if they borrowed any Toyota tech to do that. The biggest thing I see in the Hybrids now is the switch to the Atkinson cycle engine. That obviously, is not, a Boxer, which is core Subaru at this point... I think Mazda was on to something cool with their SkyActive thing. They have a giant capacitor that uses regenerative braking and uses that energy to power interior electronics. It was a cool approach to using it with a true conventional ICE.
  10. Oh wow. I wonder if they're going to amend the US maintenance schedule? The only thing it tells us to do is change them around I think ~30k miles if you're towing... Otherwise I've been told from the service department and corporate not to touch it! Apparently, there's a risk of contamination to even do a d&f on it. Also interesting - Subaru.CA recommends changing the timing belts (check out the EJ model years or the 18 STI) at 100k kilometers. It's much longer for the US specifications - it's 105k miles. That's a substantial difference. I'm curious if the climate of Canada has something to do with it. Maybe we're more "temperate" in the US. But in the summer we see our share of 100F degree days in NJ, and in the winters we will go below 0F.
  11. Except the turbo has quite a few parts under high stress, right?
  12. Oh, I agree that modern engines will retard the timing to counter pre-ignition. I'm remaining optimistic for the PI+DI, but if they don't have PI, I'm not buying a turbo. A trivial reason, certainly, but I just don't want to deal with BS service every 60k. It's like the "new timing belt" service. However, that being said, Subaru seems to be the type of company, that if they recognize there's issues with DI from carbon buildup, they just might either do the maintenance complimentary for the first time (or to a pre-set mileage, etc.), or reimburse you if you do it. I know of the article you're speaking of about Japan saying it's 87. Again, I'm optimistic, but until Subaru confirms any specifications on their website, as far as I'm concerned, it's still not set in stone.
  13. I'm curious about the injection type on the new 2.4... I really don't want to have to walnut blast the DI every 60k... it would be great if they borrowed some of the Toyota tech to do Port + Direct Injection to avoid that whole drama. And if it runs off 87 or not. The Turbo 4 costs more to run in fuel costs than the 3.6 does if it requires 91+... I agree they've probably overbuilt it - and that's a good thing.
  14. Yeah, I love Invisible Glass. Why do I want a composite ratcheting wrench? Don't think I own one of those.
  15. Is this possibly for the footwell illumination kit dimmer? I was just looking through the options, only thing that could make sense there maybe. @ Original Post - Dimming switch seems to only work when headlights are ON for my Gen4 2011 Outback. It has no effect when lights are off.
  16. These look great. I like that the grey doesn’t have blue shades like my Graphite Gray. My first choice will be Black/Black but if there is an inventory problem I would be happy with Magnetite/Black
  17. I agree, I'm torn between the Black and Gray. I had an 09 Legacy that was Black, I loved that thing, but it showed every single scratch in the world. Made me think about White for the next one... Have to see both in person before I make a decision!
  18. Thanks. I’ll absolutely consider them going forward. In NJ.
  19. Ok. That seems reasonable! What’s the deal with the trade in? I have some big dents from a bike rack on my trunk so I’m concerned about the devaluation of the amount. I don’t want them to promise me “x” through the service and then lowball me a few thousand when they actually see it in person, you know?
  20. This is pretty cool. How do they get paid/make money? Do they get paid a flat amount, or is it based off of something else, such as how much off MSRP they get? I know Costco has a buying service but I haven't tried it myself yet.
