  1. Ha, I know A1. I work at the town hall / Police / fire department for the town of Bridgewater. I am currently in the process of closing on a house over on Flagg st. My daily driver is a dark grey honda clarity, if you drive by town hall and see it plugged in to the chargers over on the bedford st parking lot, thats me haha.
No kidding. My daily is my 05 LGT. It's usually seen around town either before 7a or after 5p. There are 2 bronze colored LGT cars in the area. Both are 08/09 5eat cars. One is on MassSubaru, the other guy I can't remember where in town he lives. I've towed that one to a shop out in East BW..

  2. So as a general rule in MA:

15 years old (current calendar year - model year) then you dont need emmissions test, just saftey

The test is performed via ODBII anyway

The car cannot VISUALLY have any issues though (AKA if the inspector happens to look under your car and notice NO cat, then it can still fail, or if the car is visibly smoking, it can still fail)

A lot of passing saftey comes down to the inspector as well. Some inspectors will fail for being lowered, after market exhaust, or visual mods that can impede saftey. These do not fall under "emissions" and actual fall under either saftey or general law which there is not time limit on.

Couldn't have said it better. My 05 is exempt from emission testing. Supposedly they even have microphones to hear how loud a car is. Thankfully the people I go to take care of me.

Warlock, where in BW are you. I'm in town every day, and I work for A1 out of WB. I'm one of the tow drivers..

  3. Well, knocked out a long overdue project and feeling really good about how it came out. I gutted the alcantara door card inserts from the Spec B panels and put them in the JDM door panels. Also had to swap the front window/lock switch face plates onto the correct sides. This part of the project was not very fun. It's not super difficult to do but you have to be careful and very tedious when removing the plastic rivets or you destroy the possibility of securing the mounting point with interior screws when putting it back to together.

Threw in the additional mirror tweeter housings and the 3" mid component speaker mounts that madrig made out of carbon. While each door card was off I swapped in the OEM speakers from the Spec B just because they were in visibly better shape. No real difference in sound from the speakers but I also added sound deadening material to the inner & outer shells of every door and the cabin in noticeably quieter and music sounds more clean.

Now I just need to upgrade and add more speakers, get the rear re-upholstered to match the STI seats and try to source an EDM console. Going to be swapping in the updated dash panels and center console from the Spec B for the time though.

This has to be thee NICEST interior I've ever seen in a Legacy. My hats off to you..

  4. 210k on the clock. Oil change was done last week along with the removal of exhaust manifold shields that were loose. That stock piping sure is small.. [emoji28][emoji28] anyways, I installed some LED fog lamps, not expecting much due to them being so cheap..

I have a random stutter though. I know it's cylinder 1. I have a spare coil somewhere that I can swap in and see if that takes care of it. I posted about it in the regular 4th gen sub-forum. I also recently changed that injector too.. 3099555393b233e4f1e65fef59c9620c.jpg

  5. If the cel blinks, there should be a history of which cylinder(s) is misfiring. If the car is cold, you can gun it with no issues? Maybe you should check fuel pressure cold acceleration and warm acceleration. The pump could be overheating and cutting out.
No history at all. No codes at all, not even pending ones! That's what is killing me. Hopefully it doesn't kill the engine in the process of failure...

It'll be difficult to monitor the AP and drive.. it's gonna suck

    Scotty

  6. A blinking cel is the car misfiring. It could be a number of things, can you monitor all 4 cylinders to see which cyl has the problem?

    Spark plugs

    Coil pack

    Fuel pump or filter

    Dirty injectors

    Bad tune

Even worse, it could be internal like bad valves. I'd probably start with a compression and leakdown test before you start throwing parts at it.

I have a V2 AP, I can't monitor them all at once, but I can watch them individually. From driving tonight, this only happens when warm, and only more than half throttle. The car doesn't run rough at all, only under heavy load. Still, no CEL and no codes.

Pump and filter are new 2 years ago. Plugs were replaced about 2 months and about 4k miles ago. Stock plugs. The coils are aftermarket ones that I bought from a mbr here about 3 years ago and have roughly 80k on them.

  7. I got a blinking CEL under heavy acceleration. Once done accelerating, the light went out completely. I noticed a stumble of sorts above 3k and into boost. I did the self code check sequence and have no codes and no pending ones either.. any ideas on where to start troubleshooting?

  8. How do you feel about the ride quality on that set up? Would it be considered "dad car" friendly?

There was a reply to my similar question a while back and the short answer seemed to be "don't shave the bump stops and it'll be fine". Curious to hear your thoughts since you have a few years on those...

Total DD. I drive about 18-20k a year. As of now, the rears are showing their age, but not too terribly. With my kids in the back (6yo/11yo) the rears would rub on decent bumps hence the spacers.

  9. From MA RMV vehicle inspection it can be lowered up to 2"

"The original manufacturers specified height of motor vehicles with an original manufacturers gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 lbs. or less shall not be altered by elevating or lowering the chassis or body by more than two inches"

I can promise you, that not all inspectors are gonna know that rule as exact or even know where to measure. When I went through the class they were telling us to use the door height. Of course I asked the question about door sag... never got an answer on that. [emoji2369][emoji2369]

  10. I know MA don't like lowered cars or raised trucks anymore... technically. And they photo the cars being inspected so you can't claim you got a pass at inspection... the State police have ability to recall the pictures taken at the time to see what's changed. This guys car - seriously, if the wheels were anymore sideways it would have looked like the DeLorean at the very end of the first film.
It's not really a matter of like.. more like discretion. My LGT passes every year lowered about 1¼, exhaust, however no tint.. At first glance it looks stock and that's how I like it. Especially since every car I own is modded that same way and passes with no issues. It's the guys that take it to that level, dropped on the ground, maxed camber, always letting the pipes scream... those people ruin it for the majority. Hence why PD has issues..

  11. Spotted this guy with the lowered Legacy Wagon and sideways wheels... getting a ticket on route 3 north on Saturday. Bummer... I mean I can guess why but it's still another LGT owner... perhaps not having the wheels sideways, MA don't like that anymore and it can't legally pass inspection so I am sure that guy is on first name basis with quite a few of the local police.

I'm suprised that happened. Most PD arent pulling anyone over unless it's something legit serious like no insurance, no license, or even warrants. That person must of been doing something bad to get that attention..

  12. My top hats finally arrived!

So now I can start on installing a round of shocks and struts, replace both dogbones and install the right side steering knuckle.

Now to convince my wife that I really should be installing this stuff on our wedding anniversary....

Unless you can complete in less than half the day, and absofukinlutely guarantee some sort of dinner/desert thing afterwards... 10/10 don't recommend..

  13. Spent 2.5 hrs removing the intake manifold. Tomorrow the oem fuel rails get replaced with IAG variants and custom fuel lines. Once removed I realized it would be super easy to install the Dom cooling mod but that would mean the car won't be back on the road Monday like I wanted. Decisions, decisions.
If you have a second vehicle, do the mod now. I mean, it's allllready apart so.....

  14. Checked 1 and 3, both were fine. Didn't directly check 2 but there isnt any rotational play between the rear wheels and when I put the stereoscope on the rear diff and didn't hear anything there other than a slight hum. Didn't check for in-out play in any way though, and with the more extreme angle at full droop any minor issues in the outer joint would lead to noise like observed.

The car is really loud inside now on the highway, almost like a window is open, which lead to this testing. Symptoms SEEM to match, except there is ZERO play in any of the hubs.

Found some NTN (OEM brand) replacment bearing on eBay for $55 each so I wont be out much if this dosen't fix it.

I'm hoping the front driver side isn't also bad as I have no interest in separating rusty ball joints. I wonder if there is a way to get the hub off without doing that.

FWIW, it's common to have noisy bearings and have no play. The majority of hub bearings I've replaced had no play. My RF bearing was getting loud, no play though.

My last vehicle, an 08 Chevy Malibu, had both front bearings loud and rowdy, tight as a German... well you know.. ;)

  15. I am fine with heading out west in Mass if that is what is needed. U-Pull it yards are extremely in expensive compared to CL, FB or even the Forums. Back in PA I got my entire black leather GT wagon interior swap for around $120 minus the front seats. You can't touch that kind of pricing in private sales.
Whereabouts in Mass are you? Also, on FB there is MassSubaru and MassSubaru Marketplace. I've found decent stuff there as well.
