  1. Sounds like your new axles don't have a tone ring, therefore eliminating the ABS. Without ABS and not being prepared for no ABS I could see odd steering occur. Also, tires designed to last more miles tend to be harder, leading to less cold weather traction. Another thought, did you hook your front sway bar back up? On my 96 GT I have no front swaybar and if I hit the brakes hard while turning I can get the back end to step out a bit on dry pavement. The situation would be multiplied on ice. 2. That is aftermarket, my guess a lightbar, undercar lighting or accessory horn. That is not a factory Subaru install and is a basic switch available at almost any auto parts store. Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk
  3. IF it is not the timing might be the cats. If those come loose and turn they clog your exhaust. And under hard throttle your car is gutless. We had this problem on a 97 Ranger. It couldn't get to 60 mph no matter how hard and long you tried. A sign I would check for is tapping 5he cats and see if they rattle inside. If they rattle there is a chance they loose. 4. Dollar store turkey baster to pull the brake fluid? Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk
  5. Just bouncing some thoughts... 1 Does rotating the key help? Sometimes after I turn the key I have to rotate it around kind of feeling for the right spot for it to start. 2 When this happens and you immediately try to jump start the car is there any change? 3 Tap the starter if this happens again and see if this gets it to work. 4 I live in Abilene if you happen to be in the area I might be able to help sometime. 6. Some reading, welcome to the forums. https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/topic?url=https%3A%2F%2Flegacygt%2Ecom%2Fforums%2Fshowthread%2Ephp%3Ft%3D258372&share_tid=258372&share_fid=5383&share_type=t&link_source=app Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk
  7. Did both rear wheel bearings, now time for state inspection again. Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk
  8. My 96 GT has no speed limiter using either the stock 96 GT or 99 Outback SUS ECU. I have un it up to 130 on both. That being said cruise won't set over 110, you have to set it lower and increase the speed using the cruise controls to use cruise at that speed. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  9. Wire it to an old airbag under the seat. I did that for no other reason than humor in my 82 Bronco I had. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  10. You might pm doublechaz, setnev,Brighton96 and DOHC22RE they have quite a bit of experience on these cars. Also could you post what car you have? The difference between an EJ22 and EJ25 and Outback or non Outback can make changes to what people would suggest. (The outback drivetrain sits 1" lower in the framerails) Also some of these came with hydraulic adjusters such as my 96 GT. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  11. I painted over my powerstop powdercoating. I lightly scuffed it with 400 grit and painted them with engine paint. They work well. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  12. If not Rock auto has them cheap. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  13. Actually unless you are completely stopped tha steering is wonderful. I opened up a 99 outback rack and cut off the power piston and greased the rack. So, I am not fighting the power steering system. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  14. The power steering delete had nothing to do with weight loss. I have a tendency to destroy power steering pumps on all my vehicles somehow every couple of years. So i deleted it when it started leaking. I might do an EPAS system in the future but power steering isn't needed. Me going on a diet would be FAR more effective than taking a couple parts off my car. On the ABS front mine has been deleted since i got the car. I just pulled the bulb from the dash and the relays inside the unit. AC belt is off because it stopped working. That will be removed as well. I have a tendency to remove non-essential items when they break. Less stuff to deal with in the future, more space in the engine bay and less money spent. 15. Last week went to a different inspector car passed just fine no questions or comments. Then the trans shift cable snapped, ordered a new one from Subaru and replaced it. Easy job. So glad to have my car back on the road legally. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  16. Are you using the FSM (Field Service Manual)? I believe one of the stickies at yhe top of the forum has links to them. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  17. Test thought. When it is ticking the tach unplug the coil and see if it stops. Just work backward unplugging and replugging to test where the ticking (jumping). Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  18. Coil pack and or ignitor? I had an 82 Bronco with some issues from the coil pack back feeding into the tach and stumbling. It ended up burning out the tach and "fixing" itself. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  19. I deleted Power Steering( lines, pump, power piston) , the Title Office told me since it is a grey area wait out the 15 days and go somewhere else. It is in chapter four of the Texas inspection rules. https://www.dps.texas.gov/rsd/vi/publications/rules/safety_manual/chapter4.pdf They cited a generic "modification of the steering system" which while true my car still complies with the requirements. There are three different ways things are listed in the Inspection Rules. 1- If equipped from the manufacturer. (Such as LED headlights and taillights.) 2- Must be equipped. (Such as third brakelight after Sept 1 1983.) 3- If equipped. (Power steering lies here.) According to the way the Texas Title Office reads the law my car does not require power steering, according to the way Avis Lube trains their staff my car does. I understand the local Avis Lube is just following corporate training. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  20. Failed Texas State Inspection... According to Avis Lube my car is required to have power steering. According to the Texas Title Office it does not. Avis Lube filed my car as failed and I cannot get it reinspected anywhere else for 15 days.
  21. Went out mudding with some of my students. We had had a ton of rain so we went out to one of their ranches, and I told them to show me anywhere anyone had ever gotten stuck. My GT made it through every spot including driving up to the rocker panels in water in the stock tank and putting it in park. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
  22. I drove to St. Louis from Abilene, TX and back. 1600 miles total 23 mpg with the lift and larger tires. Everything went well. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk

  24. Manual steering rack conversion. I took apart my spare 99 Outback steering rack and cut off the power piston. I then installed this rack into my 96 GT. Review: If you are moving at all steering is easily a one handed operation. At a stop steering with two hands is on the line between recommend and needed. Benifits: No power steering leaks. Other notes: I replaced inner and outer tie rods with Moog. And made a custom inner tie rod joint cover to go under the tie rod boot. I used an Energy Suspension ball joint cover and slid it over the inner tie rod joint. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
