  1. I have a set of these: https://www.redlinetuning.com/product-p/21-36005-03.htm They work great.
  2. That’s because his posts are pretty much 8-10x compared to other posts :-) Even with a fast internet connection, it still takes a bit to load this thread because of the seriously large number of good pictures present. Appreciate you taking the time to take pictures of what you do. I know from trying, that it’s not easy and requires deliberate discipline to stick to it.
  3. Next update. I'm on rev 10 now of my self tuning. I had to replace the valve cover breather hoses, mine were ceramic and cracked in several places. This is my current total timing table: The key for me was realizing I was going the wrong way with AVCS. I was going by a thread that was talking about fixing stumble by jacking up AVCS to 25 or 30. That wasn't helping my case. Going the other way to 10 or 15 was much better. Right now the idle is dead smooth, almost can't feel it running. The acceleration is really smooth and consistent. The stumble is basically gone. Only time I felt it in the last week was at 50mph in 5th and <.30 load, I have to hunt to find it now. The shudder when you transition from load to coast abruptly is gone. This is the most fun I've had yet driving this car. No FKC/FLKC at this point. LV is really good. I'm a happy camper right now.
  4. First off, thanks Madrig for building us some fantastic products! I purchased the prototype scoop with the agreement to provide pictures and feedback, so here it is. I love it. It looks amazing, I really like the subtle lip that increases the mouth size without looking like I want to drag race at every light. The first shots are different angles for comparison to the stock scoop. The next set are to show off the opening and more aggressive lip. I like that you can see it from the drivers seat now. Eval: Quality is top notch, as others have previously mentioned, the quality of the work is excellent. The studs fit in the holes in the hood perfectly. I put some blue thread locker on them when installing as I didn't want the nuts to walk off and I can't check on them because they are under the hood insulator panel. After playing with it for a bit, there are two points that I would recommend adjusting. The first is the gap in the upper back of the scoop. You can see how narrow the stock scoop is in the upper back, a couple of shims and fins help it seat securely and grip the hood. The carbon scoop has a much larger gap and doesn't grip the hood as well. This leads to flex and vibration if left alone. I solved it for myself by putting a bead of windshield sealant on the lip of the hood where it meets that upper back part of the scoop. The second is that there is a small (3-4mm) gap in the back of the scoop where it doesn't fit completely flush with the hood. Overall, I love this scoop. It's an amazing addition for our older cars that helps modernize and personalize them. Thanks Madrig!
  5. I was totally going with a paint matched scoop, until you posted this. That is one dang good looking piece. If you need someone to help test fit, I’m game
  6. Making good progress. On my 7th revision (working on minor tweaks to #8) and I've managed to get most of the stumble out and the transition from idle coasting to going is so smooth. Here is where I'm at: This is the delta from where I started... Tuned out the small FKC at moderate load that I would encounter. Running clean for FKC/FLKC so far. LV is very clean at 0-2 so far. For the fuel line input, I tried a standard length (remember I have an STi FPR now), 2ft, and 3ft. Honestly, the 2ft and 3ft lines didn't help at all for the stumble. I went back to the standard length because I didn't like having all that hose in the engine bay where it could get snagged. Last short run I did, the acceleration was noticeably better, to the point that I need to now figure out how to keep the nose from lifting so much. But, honestly just having it drive smoothly between transitions is so nice.
  7. Slow progress (too much time at work). I started smoothing my timing lines (thanks to NSFW for his timing tool, it works really well), and I can feel a difference when driving. My last revision I got into a DAM lowering event and it took me a minute to realize that my AVCS table was too advanced from other testing. So I dialed that back. Here is where I am at for the moment. Going to take the 20 min drive to Costco this afternoon and will see how it goes.
  8. Oh yeah, if I move to Colorado Springs after the first of the year like it's looking; I know where I'm coming for an in-person tune.
  9. Looks awesome... still trying to remind myself that this is a diesel wagon... :-D
  10. Thanks for the detailed reply, I'll work on smoothing the lines. IAM has always been 1.0 and I basically have no FLKC or FKC. I'll see if I can find any tables pulling timing. If you have any suggestions, I'll take em.
  11. Here is my combined table, apologies for the delay, had to travel for a conference.
  12. What's the name of the Advance table? I want to make sure I pull the right one. For the timing editor, do I copy the values out of the table into a text file and load them up? Mods: VF-52 (JMP) Stock airbox w/ HKS hard inlet pipe Invidia Catted Downpipe, 3" mid pipe w/ HFC, and stock (or TurboXS) axleback Stock injectors w/ AEM 50-1000 fuel pump AVO TMIC TurboSmart 50/50 BOV Cusco Coils 1-step colder plugs
  13. Interesting, that's good to know. Here is my base timing table. What things should I be looking at related to this?
  14. I was footing it, no cruise control and it was a 5-6% grade. My most consistent stumbles are going up a decent grade (I live on a ridge) or getting up to speed with a light foot.
  15. Trying to get rid of my "stumble". - I have moved the reference vacuum to the main line off the center of the intake (teed with the BPV) - I have a longer 2 ft fuel line - I have replaced the original FPR assembly with a STi FPR - The MAF was replaced with OEM last year I still stumble. I took this log on my way home from Louisville this evening. I was going up a steady incline holding essentially 63 mph in 5th gear. I'm seeing a lot of variation that I wasn't expecting to see, but I'm not sure what the source is. Is it that the TPS is reporting a bunch of variation in the throttle plate that's causing everything else to try to adjust? Or is it something else? Thoughts? BtSsm_20181007_184954.csv
  16. I just adjusted my Stage 2 map to try that 15 degrees of AVCS advance as you suggested. I'll drive it over the next week or so to see what it does to my hesitation/stumbling issue.
  17. There are several guys up in the PNW that could give you recommendations, but they probably haven't stumbled on this thread yet. You could look in the PNW part of the forum or post a thread with your request in the title.
  18. I have relocated the reference, switched to a simpler STi FPR, and still have some stumbling in the 2400-2800 RPM range. Infamous tuned out some of it, but it's still there; typically on lighter throttle.
  19. You need 15 posts in the forum to post in the classifieds. Details should be in a sticky post at the top of the classifieds forum.
  20. Yeah, either a JDM rear bumper (about 4" shorter) or extend the tips out. Good looking wagon and making me miss my GC...
