That's the idea. I can do the install with either the new or old design first, I'll let him make that call, take it up to Travis and have him tune it.
If we use the old design first and everything goes well, then I can drive for a while to make sure there is no overboost, swap to the new design and see if I get overboost.
Or, install the new design first, see if he can tune it without overboost, and if not, swap to the old one right there and have him have another go at it the following morning under the same ambient conditions. In this case I would spend the night up there to save the 2+ hour 1-way drive.
Be our Savior!!

I have an exciting update. Nameless just responded to my email. Sounds like they are going to do some investigation/comparisons with the old and new DP on someone's car and get back to the community with their findings.
I'm excited to see these results. I hope it didn't take more than a few weeks to see their reply.

I would suggest going with what Ellesedil suggested and let Nameless do the install. Depending on what his priorities are. Or if there is another case of documented over boost, I think the community should address Nameless and request a response that isn't push it forward.

So sexy. Maybe one day for me...

Yes! Awesome idea!

I am going to install mine as soon as I have a day to do so. I figure I can run the ots stage 2 and see what happens then get a custom etune. Gonna wait for milder weather though. It's around 97 during the day now.

Isn't that the truth. I've been considering this route since you suggested. I'd be incredibility upset and disappointed if I dropped 500 for a tune and the DP doesn't cooperate. It sucks to even be in this position.
And these temps are ridiculous. Half the reason I'm waiting.

Told ya that eg dump would wear on you soon
For me, it eventually made me not even want to get on the gas. I had a little t28 that built boost quick so the lightest throttle....
BRAAAAAAAAP!
Car just screaming! I'm sitting there like jeez, I didn't ask for all that.

Not to go off topic but I just have to say, even though this is a smallish community, in this one thread there is so much great info. Its good to see the great advice and info sharing. I'm happy to have chosen this platform.

This question, I'd also like to know

So he wants to reduce preload on the waste gate spring essentially? Meaning the waste gate is going to be opening sooner under lower boost thresholds.
I'm pretty interested in what he has to say.

Ahh, I see. Yeah, if I had a local buddy who welds, I'd buy him some beer and lunch and have him give it a go. As far as paying a shop another $100 to modify a $800 part that doesn't work as intended? Good luck, but that isn't acceptable to me.

How difficult would it be for a shop to cut off the existing wastegate dump tube and re-pipe it with a bend that is similar to the original 1st run DPs? I realize what I'm saying is overly simplistic and likely there are issues with engineering and physics that I am not taking into account.
Wait wait wait...you want a shop to do custom work on an already custom exhaust? Maybe you're more lenient then I am but it's product description says...
"We are pleased to release our 5th Gen Legacy GT true divorced twin circuit downpipe! Utilizing this design, we are able to remove all turbulence created by the internal wastegate on the OEM turbocharger and route it smoothly in to a single 3" outlet. This grants better spool, a more consistent boost curve, and no boost creep. This parts does require a tune to operate effectively, and bundles with the Cobb AccessPort V3 and/or our CBE are available upon request."
I don't think it's acceptable that people have to modify the DP to that extent. Especially if Nameless is pushing to sell a full exhaust with it as well which would cause more creep.

That's pretty much right. Fischbach was the original car the DP was designed on. Someone else bought one, and then Swannee too, so those are the 3 original design downpipe that I know of. Then 22 or 23 sold with the GB of the revised simplified design.
I am now officially in possession of Swannee's DP. And our boy is now officially a married man.
Good thing you got a hold of an original as well. What do you need to do before you test the two out?
If it would take some donations to get you going I'd be down to help. It seems we put most of the picture to this puzzle together. I'm about ready to put this issue to rest and get a resolution.

I know it probably only be a handful, but has porting been successfully proven to eliminate all concern of over boost?

Well I just got my rec bov yesterday. Another step done You guys want to crowd fund me for a Cobb and tune so I can give it a go? Lol

I feel pretty responsible for getting everyone into this group buy in the first place since I am the one that originally asked Nameless to consider it for us, but I am also truly disappointed with Nameless for changing the design of the dump pipe from the S bend they had before to the design of the GB DP. I was uncomfortable about the change, but was under the impression that they had hard evidence that the change would not affect performance. It was to save a little cost of production on their end, but it looks like it resulted in a piece of artwork that's useless for it's intended purpose.
I have my GB downpipe, and I am also picking up Swannee's which was one of the original 3 or 4 that Nameless produced with their original S bend dump pipe design. I plan to install the GB DP this summer and get tuned. If I encounter overboost, I will swap out the DP's to Swannee's and try again. If I get no overboost, we know that the change of design is the culprit.
I need everyone here to document everything in this thread. Pics, data, info etc. I will be contacting Nameless shortly to discuss the situation with them and direct them to this thread.
Don't feel bad GT. I learned and as I'm sure everyone here knows most of the cost of pieces like these is the cost of development. The design, and testing to make sure the parts perform like they're supposed to on top of having quality craftsmanship.
They were supposed to have put the effort into making a piece that works effectively with the car, modded or not. And if there was a potential problem with other parts is their job to inform their customers.
Otherwise what they did was take advantage of their customers. It seems they didn't do suffecient R&D. They whipped up something that doesn't work as intended which is what any exhaust garage could have done. That's what I'm disappointed with.
So far they're like 1/5? Either their design is flawed or craftsmanship suffered on a certain point on the DP.

I'm pretty aggravated about the over boost news.
Sorry you still had problems but thank you for being one of the pioneers.

Wow! That's an unfortunate event, but it always feels good when a modification you made proves itself to be effective.

I have heard a lot of good things about revworks and circuit motorsports is supposed to have a good tuner as well. Circuit is pretty active on one of the subaru pages I keep up with on FB. Haven't heard of Mtune. There is supposed to be a well known shop in Tampa if I can find the name I will give it to you, always good to have options.
I just looked Circuit up and I remember that red really car from the mega meet! I didn't realize that was them. Honestly now, I'm more inclined to go with them since they have lifts and all. Forbid the downpipe goes sideways at least we would be able to fiddle with it while we're there. I believe Michael mtune would just show up at the dyno to put a map on. No help otherwise. Thanks for that suggestion!

I already spent 500 bucks on a tune and can't afford to do it again I'm just gonna swap out with a catless invidia dp, any one interested in my nameless do with intermidiate pipe
See? And this is what I don't want. I'd be so hot.

I'd rather do it right the first time. I'm speaking to mtune out in Orlando. I asked him about revisions and all and he's talking about a whole new tune and more dough. I have a recirculating valve on the way so I need this sorted out before I go down.

Oh no. Haven't touched it yet. I need to see positive results before I book a $500 protune.

Why did they change the design 2 additional times?
Like the very first gen designs (what's on their site) look very different from what we ended up with.

Year, I saw them on Facebook talking about it. I wanted to pop up on the page and ask about what's up with out over boost problem. But I decided that wouldn't be cool.
