  1. ^ I don't remember hearing that from you, but by chance I stumbled upon that exact info this week. I have a few old circuit boards laying around for just this kind of situation, so if I can get comfortable cleanly removing/reinstalling (soldering) tiny components on those old boards I might try to replace the ECU myself. Sent from inner space.
  2. open loop / closed loop? I'm pretty far out of my league in this thread so I'll sit back and wait for CR to answer. I learn from this thread, not the other way around
  3. I don't know why I'm doubting you... I thought that adding a higher flow pump just increases the system's ability to flow, and doesn't require any tuning changes as long as you don't modify the regulated fuel pressure. FWIW I replaced my OEM pump with a DW65c and didn't touch the tune. I already have it set to run the pump at 66.7/66.7/100, so maybe that's why I'm not seeing problems. Many people on here recommend the DW65c as a drop-in replacement. It's almost as easy as a simple "disable" thing. In the ROM (tune) there's a table that defines the pump's duty cycle at "low" or "medium" levels, and you can change the duty cycle in each field ("high" duty cycle is always 100% and can't be changed). Stock (for my '05 GT) "low" = 33.3% and "medium" = 66.7%.
  4. Words do not exist that would accurately describe how I feel about the people who do that to cars.
  5. I'll have to look into it deeper. I'd love to be wrong and be able to do it all myself. Hold on... I just had a happy moment dreaming about what it would be like to own an LGT that didn't misfire. Hopefully they'll at least be willing to toss in my new cabin filter.
  6. Mine tank had a similar leak and it ended up being a cracked housing. The crack was in the flange that rests on top of the tank. To fix it I used q-bond (super glue) with carbon powder sprinkled into the crack. It's been a few thousand miles and the leak hasn't come back (yet).
  7. I'm under the impression that the BIU / immobilizer doesn't play nice with a replaced ECU until the dealer talks magic and makes everything cooperate.
  8. Recently I met a mechanic who dealt with a Misfiring Subaru, with symptoms similar to mine. They (a private shop) couldn't figure it out and ended up replacing the motor, which didn't fix the problem. Long story short → the misfire stopped after the ECU was replaced. I'm contemplating that as my next move. If it didn't require a trip to the dealer I'd probably have replaced it already. Is it something I can swap out myself in the dealership's parking lot? I still need to take it in for the airbag recall so maybe they'd charge me less if the car was already in for something else.
  9. I haven't done anything to it since I replaced the fuel pump, and since then (June 30) I've only put on about 2k miles. It's easier not worrying about the car when I'm not driving it... how messed up is that. Most (all) of my free time lately has been spent helping my friend rebuild the motor from his '08 LGT. His turbo destroyed itself and sent an impressive amount of lapping compound (metal) through the entire engine. He opted to take the YNANSB route and it took us about 3 months of one or two nights a week. We finally got it running last week, and on his first day driving home from work the radiator broke (?). Such is life. My pleasure, it's been very helpful for me also just being able to go back and look at what I've tried. Going on three years now would be a long time to keep things strait if I was going off just memory. I love it when people jump into this thread with their own symptoms because it helps me think through my own stuff from a different perspective. So all hijackers are welcome here I don't think you block off any lines because then you wouldn't be testing the entire system (everywhere air can go). ALL new air is supposed to enter the engine only through the intake tube. You plugged that tube with a PVC cap, so you did it correctly. Can you post a link for the smoker you used? I really struggled to keep my DIY can smoking and I'd like to do it again using something that works better.
  10. What's your thinking behind that? ...To allow the manifold runners to stay better attached to the head without being tied to each other?
  11. Seems like a semi-functional way to make the rear end of a car look symmetrical. The BMW looks like cheaping out, the second pic looks semi-legit because the "relocated" tips are fed by the muffler instead of one of the other tips (as in the BMW).
  12. The cause of my ER HC code was simply a loose ground. Occasionally I'd hear a burst of clicks come from the passenger footwell area while I was driving. Since the engine was turning over I didn't lose power, or even suspect a serious issue. Then one day it finally decided to become a problem by preventing the car from starting (on a rainy day, of course). You probably have a similar intermittent loose ground somewhere. Check all 163 grounding points and report your findings
  13. Wait guys, I think that's a CF hood. I kinda like the red pinstripe down the side, the mirrors, and on the grill wings.
  14. I spotted this little gem a couple weeks ago. I can't force myself to call it a "clean" car, so I'll just say that it looks well taken care of.
  15. Those are pretty good pics! It was good meeting you and seeing your wagon. There are only two Legacy colors I like more than my silver... white and the S402 blue I'm definitely down for a Legacy drive/meet sometime. My friend and I are almost finished putting his LGT motor back together, so that's at least three of us.
  16. DIY + a long time = less $ per (time unit). That gets frustrating at times, but with baby #5 almost here it's about the only way I can afford to do fun stuff to my car.
  17. Eventually I'll do something like that, to both the upper and lower openings, but I want it to be more flush like the grills below. The blue car is what I made in the past, and the red car shows the fit and finish I want this time around. After it's done I'll slap on my 3d printed STI-style LGT emblem and call it a day.
  18. Until the misfire goes away all car money is spoken for. It's on the list though. I like the look of the crown vic grill mod, but I really like the idea of making one out of perforated sheet metal (similar to a custom speaker grill). I also have occasional access to scrap honeycomb (the real-deal metal stuff), so that's a possibility too. I made and installed one in my RSX-s about 10 years ago and it looked better than any other grill I've ever seen. Of course I'm a little biased I probably have some pics somewhere around here...
  19. Next weekend is the single car event I try to go to each year, and it's my annual motivator to give my car a majorly thorough cleaning and wrap up all of the loose ends that I've been putting off. So today I finally put on my BP TMIC stuff, restored my cloudy headlight, and detailed most of the engine bay. Tomorrow I'm going to touchup a few chips and deal with a couple rusty spots that have been irritating me for quite a while, then I'll wash and wax the car next Saturday morning before the meet. This morning I also washed and waxed the new-to-us 12 passenger beast lurking in the background. It's huge but not very difficult because it's pretty much just a gigantic box.
  20. On my way home today, coasting in 2nd gear, I slowly rolled up to a stop light. I was two or three car-lengths away when the light turned green. I already knew what I was going to do because I was ready. I was in the mood and it was game time. I gently tapped on the throttle and shifted smoothly down into 1st gear. 4000 RPM quickly went up to 5500 as my baby (the LGT) joyfully screamed forward. My shift into 2nd was perfect and my view through the windshield blurred as I approached light speed. THIS is why I rebuilt my motor! I very rarely downshift into 1st because I have a hard time getting the rev-match right, so this was a special day for me. Amen, hallelujah, and God bless America!
  21. 10,000 miles and all is well. I'll figure out my oil consumption rate this next Saturday when I change my oil.
  22. I think this is the motivation I was waiting for to replace mine. Thanks for the written explanations and good pics.
  23. Yeah, when it's almost entirely highway miles. The car knows how to accelerate, and I know how to tell it to do that, and that's where most of my mpg problem is.
