  1. the newer keys have a chip that identifies the key to the car. if the car has the key in it's internal memory, it will allow the car to start. If not, no crank, no start on most implementations...
  2. you cannot truly disable it. it is tied into everything including cruise control ABS. If you remove the module without updating the configuration of the car, other things that it is tied into may not work properly.
  3. nice job with the retrofit, now if we could just work on that parking skill of yours
  4. lol believe what you want... all cars flex and all cars have frozen water from melted snow or ice in them in sub freezing temps when the car moves you can hear the ice crack as the car flexes sounds almost like a snap. don't believe it? go fill up an ice tray and put it in your freezer and then flex it when the water has frozen.....and you will HEAR the ice cracking as it is flexed
  5. trust me it's there.... I routinely wipe my trunk of snow and ice and I do not hear cracking unless it has snowed and the run off goes into the water channel around the trunk. Same thing happens in the front I can hear the cracking of the ice.. every single car I have does it when it gets cold and runoff gets into certain areas and freezes.
  6. if this is a walk through, you're about 11ty billion words and pictures short
  7. if your dealer is difficult to work with tell them and then tell SOA if they do not clean up their act.
  8. the problem with installing HID kits is that there are very FEW that are DOT approved. Police officers can go as far as to tow your car for illegal lighting if they wanted to. The legal way to do it is to get the HID light housings from a 3.6R or other model with the HID light option.
  9. you could probably use the Subaru OEM software to turn the feature off...
  10. how many of you opted for extended warranty? I am betting now that some of you wish you did....
  11. creeping up on 26K, no issues, I will change the fluid at 36K
  12. I was in and out in less than an hour and no damage to my dashboard on my 03...
  13. Nice to see Subaru step up and solve the issue...
  14. people seem to like the hood delfector, tint and the Subaru Logo'd puddle lights on my car... I cleaned and waxed that thing and now it shines like a mirror...
  15. 2k3 legacy gets me 21 city 25 mixed and 28 highway....105k miles 87 octane.... it pales in comparison to my 2k14 legacy that does 25 city 31 mixed and 34+ highway... 24k miles and same 87 octane gas from Costco.... same routes for both cars
  16. unless you are the one who's carotid artery or jugular vein gets sliced and you bleed out...
  17. the paint on my 2003 Subaru Legacy almost looks new.... I clay and wax it once a year, and the wax it 3 times more over the rest of the year
  18. Dunno, live stateside so I cannot comment on other areas of said planet...
  19. You can add 2003-4 Legacies, Outbacks and Bajas to the list. Got the letter from Subaru for my 2003 Legacy today. NHTSA recall 16V-361 Subaru Recall TKC-16
  20. hoses on my 03 legacy lasted 12 years before leaking... ones on my CL-S are 15 years old.
  21. What I meant by track record is no real history of tuning it and getting a solid knowledge base of how it handles being tweaked While it would be nice, FWD really does not distract from the FUN factor of the CL-S but after 15 years and 140K miles it's time to put it out to pasture as those 5AT units don't seem to last...
  22. I am all for modding cars but I am not going to mess with my Legacy. There just isn't a track record with the new 2nd Gen CVT and if I really want to drive something reasonably quick, I'll break out the 2002 Acura CL Type S... saying HP is not as important as Torque is rubbish... if you want good acceleration, it is a combination of engine power, ability of the trans to effectively put the power down, and how good the tires/suspension are.... when I put headers on the Acura, not only did I get 30HP more, it moved the power peak from 6100 all the way up to 6700rpm and made an already rev happy motor even more so... IE building power all the way up to very deep into the RPM range with a small fall off by the time you get to WOT shift point of 7100rpm... it shaved an significant amount off of the 0-60 times and a bit off of the 1/4mile
