  1. Hey all. Looking for the parts to relocate my parking brake switch:

    1. Parking brake switch — 83321AJ020

    2. Bracket for Parking brake switch— 92133AJ060

    As seen in this thread:

These aren't readily available in the US as far as I've been able to determine, though I admit I haven't actually called a dealer to inquire. Maybe I will, but in the meantime is there someone here on the board that has a source for these sorts of things? I had been in touch with Hanger in the past about the issue but he hasn't responded to my more recent messages :(

Anyway, I'm not really keen to deal with Yahoo Japan or whatever on my own and am hoping that someone here can find these two things for me without breaking the bank. Please let me know!

  2. why not just use your existing fronts instead of hunting down donors?

    1. My life and schedule are such that it will be easier to assemble the fronts on one occaision, then do the install on the car another time. This necessitates having a spare pair to install the inserts into.

    2. I prefer to keep spare OEM parts after I install upgrades/modifications, for reversibility should I so desire, or if a future buyer of the vehicle would like to have them. If I gut the ones I have, I won't have that.

    3. Before anyone says "get new fronts to keep and gut the stock ones" please re-read number 1 ;)

  3. I'm planning to do this install within the next couple months.

Having had no luck finding a set of donor fronts to gut for the inserts, I'm considering buying something new (though I hate the idea of destroying perfectly good new equipment). KYB GR2s are about $60 each from RockAuto, but they're also now carrying a brand called FCS which are only $40 each.

I'm all about saving some cash, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with these? Specifically, I don't want to buy them and then find out that somehow they use a narrower shock body and the inserts won't fit... Any info appreciated.

  4. Many modern cars automatically turn the air conditioner on when you select the windshield/defroster setting on the HVAC, so that dry air will blow on the inside of the windshield and (hopefully) remove condensation quickly. This is smart and helpful.

Subaru in its wisdom seems to have decided that the AC should also be on when the HVAC is set to the position where air comes out on the windshield as well as the footwell area. I find this really irritating; I spend the summer with cold, air-conditioned air blowing on my face and arms from the dash vents but in winter I don't like hot air in my face so I usually have it set to the defrost/footwell setting.

I don't want to have the AC running 24/7, so here's the question - does anyone know a way to keep the AC from turning on under these conditions?

    Thanks!

  5. Current-gen M3/M4s - meh. Especially with 'pops n bangs' t00ns and any flat/satin or colored chrome vinyl wraps.

The brand ended with the E36/E46 and E39 M cars.

Interesting thought. After 6+ years owning a 2000 Outback wagon I've just joined this community with a 2012 Legacy 2.5i as my daily.

My toy(s) during that time were first an E36 M3, and for about the last three years a 2003 E39 M5. Love that car, IMO it's one of the greatest all-around cars ever designed.

  6. Wrecked, repaired, new wheels...

  7. And, they're on. Finally had enough time to wash the car and snap a few pics, though the wheels have been mounted for a few weeks. Enough time to get some stone chips already, in fact :(

Anyway, continuing with the "just for laughs" theme of this car, I give you a lowered Outback on Prodrive P1 wheels:

  8. Weighing in here with my first real modification. Lowered a la MrLancaster with KYB dampers and H&R springs:

Just for fun really. Wheels/tires next, then a leather steering wheel of some kind.

  9. Finally found a car. This will be my daily.

2000 Outback with only 40k miles! Just about perfect in and out. It's not a Limited but it's pretty spec'd up - leather, cold weather package, etc. No sunroof(s) but I'm OK with that - means there's nothing to leak ;)

Plans include lowering, a better stereo, possibly wheels, and if I get really frisky an intake/header setup. After that, drive drive drive.

  10. Jdog - I'm in the Cincinnati Ohio area. Subarus, especially of the slightly older generations, are NOT popular in this area. Lots of Foresters (drove one, not for me) and WRXs (LOVE that car, but don't want a turbo DD) but not many Legacys, wagon or not.

I drove a black 1998 GT wagon and loved it; the price was right, but my mechanic and I found an awful lot wrong with it, and not usual stuff like timing belt etc. The showstopper was the massive water leak in the sunroof and windshield - the passenger floor was awash in water when I drove it after some rain.

I've got my father and brother looking - they're in eastern Pennsylvania, in a much more Subie-rich area. Hopefully something will come up before long... I'm pretty sick of my Protege.

Sorry for the OT material - back to the pictures!
