  1. Agree entirely. Now I'm resorting to having my parts shipped to a buddy's house since I did go a little wild in the year or so I've had the car.

    Then I'm done ............

I had to have everything shipped to my work office or business. ;) But when I left and had to bring everything I had bought home with me.... there were many many questions of "where'd that come from?" or "when did you get that?" or comments "i see you got new rims" or "is that a ...... for the car?" etc.

  2. I keep a spreadsheet to reference:

I think I'm done modding at this point. I could see endlinks and sways possibly down the road, but car is close to perfect as is for me.

Sold the RE92's, but kept all the stock parts. When the day comes to sell the car, if it doesn't sell at a price I want w/ the mods to a private party, I'll revert to stock and trade it in and sell the mods individually. Some things like the DP and TMIC I bought used, so I figure I can get a lot of that back. Others that I bought new, I generally assume I can get 30-50% back down the road.

which is what I'm in the process of doing. If I can get 50% of what I paid, then I'm doing well, otherwise, it's closer to that 30% after I include shipping and Paypal fees, time it takes to bring her back to stock, etc.

I started to calculate how much I've spent on the new car already:

    tint $200

    Clear Bra $1000

    Parrot BT $335 installed

    Rear cargo liner $50

    All weather mats $50

    Cargo tray $40

    Mudflaps $80

    STI heater seat switch $70

STI drivers side heated seat elements $270 (to be installed by myself once I find the wire harness hidden inside the car)

    Tune w/ Jarrad $150

    Cost to bring Jarrad $90

    Cobb AP $625

Front Lip and vent visors from japanparts.com $778

    eh... ya..... :(

  3. There are actually different tiers of the VIP program. I posted this link earlier in this thread: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=24228&d=1157857078. According to that, the normal VIP program for employees of Subaru and suppliers/vendors is invoice pricing. The VIP program for members of Subaru partners (the ones listed in Post 1 here) is 2% under invoice. I got my car in October '06 for 2% under invoice and I also got a $150 L.L. Bean gift certificate through the VIP partner program at the time. Of course that was over a year ago, so they could have changed the offer.

    ^^^ This is why

  4. Well for reference to those who are curious on the VIP pricing difference:

2008 STI hatch w/ BBS package (no nav) and ipod integration kit and sport grill

MSRP $38,900 (including destination fee, but not including add'l dealer fee: $40,100)

Employee Pricing $36,000 (including destination fee)

VIP Program Pricing $35,300 (including destination fee, rust proofing, GAP insurance, not including down payment)

  5. Same deal with me, just not married to anyone at the dealer. They gave me a great price and said all my future purchases would get the same deal. No VIP waiting or paperwork. And my salesperson does all the paperwork so I don't have to talk to the f'n F&I manager. I hate that dick.

Edmunds lists the base Invoice and itemizes the destination and invoice on all options. On Edmunds you get to see the base and actual msrp, the base and actual invoice and the tmv (true market value, what dealers submit as actual sale prices).

lol. well, I know all the Finance guys so it's not an issue for me. There are some things that make me irritated about them, but they are a dealership, so that's to be expected. Overall, they've done a good job for me, even before hubby started working there. This will be our 3rd Subie we've bought from them since April 2005.

  6. No, no, no. The actual invoice is not the same as you see on the websites. I'm the internet sales manager for a Subaru Dealership in Colorado and constantly have people asking my why the invoice on Edmunds.com is different than the actual invoice on the car. Edmunds and the other sites don't account for the "destination charge" that is directly from the manufacturer and is printed on the invoice. This is the charge for freighting the car either across the country (if your vehicle was made at our Indiana plant) or from Japan. This is NOT a dealership handling fee, it is directly from Fuji Heavy Industries. Those websites also don't account for the "factory add-ons" like armrest extensions, security shock sensors, remote start, auto dimming mirror with compass, etc.

In my honest opinion if you truly want the best deal on a car (which should be invoice minus all hold back) submit a few leads to dealers in your area. Let them know that you are looking for the absolute best price on a specific vehicle. If you think you are going to walk onto a dealership and get a great price you are out of your mind. Let your fingers do the work for you and compare and contrast the price quotes that you are given. Once you have gotten your lowest quote email back the dealerships and ask them to beat that price. Eventually you will get to the point where there is maybe $50 difference in prices. At the end I would give the opportunity to the salesman that worked best with you. Also, if any of you have questions about pricing or incentives feel free to shoot me a PM.

OR.... I can order exactly the car I want from the dealer my husband works at and friend owns and they will give me 2% under invoice, no questions asked and cost on anything else that I want. They get something from the manufacturer and I get a great price on the car I want from the dealer I want to buy from too. Also, $150 goes back to the organization we support. :)

  7. What is the difference between a vehicle sold order and a dealer inventory purchase? They get shipped the same and arrive on the same truck don't they? It's often easier to work a deal on a car that has been on the lot a while, but those cars will most definitely have some paintwork problems from power washing and/or quick detailing. Always special order when you can. Regardless, you are buying yours new off the truck, but I don't see how that is any different than a vehicle sold order.

I believe they are allocated differently and priced differently on "special orders." this way, I can get my order in when they bring up their monthly allocation vs one all by itself. I believe it has something to do with shipping and timing.. Regardless, my situation is a little different due to my relationship with the dealership. Also, keep in mind, the pwk for the VIP program has a 45 day expiration. You have to take delivery of the vehicle w/in 45 days of the date of the pwk or you have to start over again. so, can't really do special orders...

  8. Lucky for me... haha. I only got mine down here because it was 1 of only 2 spoilerless 07s left in the country at the time.

I understand that in places like AK or Canada this program could very well be worth it. But the majority of the US Legacys seem to go well below sticker to begin with.

subaru's sell at full MSRP or more up here.... unless you can talk them down, they don't have to sell for uber low pricing. with incentives and rebates, usually you can still get a decent price, however, it's not necessary for them to sell at invoice or lower since they are one of the largest volume sellers in PNW and there is only one dinky little dealership in Fairbanks to be somewhat competitive. We do have people who will buy from Carter or another dealership in Beaverton, OR. Just like buying a car from any other dealership however, I have found doing research and being armed with info to be my best ally. When I purchased my 05 LGT, I negotiated with the dealership for well over a week before we agreed on price and trade in for my previous vehicle, no VIP or Employee pricing since it did not apply at the time. I still paid just over invoice for the car since it had been sitting in inventory for some time and they were losing money on it every day it sat on the lot. :) Those are the cars you want to buy if you don't have a program to work with.

for the STI, we ordered it and used the VIP program and for the 08 I'll be ordering in May, I'll do the same. It will come on the regular shipment so it won't be special order and I'll just request my pwk about 2 wks before it's scheduled to arrive. :)

  9. I don't know who your asking, me or Shygt. But for me the STi has DCCD & front LSD. Also the STi has been out in the states sense 04. More chance to find a good use STi 6MT. I started gathering part in April of 07. The Spec. B has only been out 8 mos. or so.

    Mike

exactly. besides, why would you not want the DCCD??? :D

HD, i see you have the 07 Solstice GXP. how do you like it?? Was thinking of one for autox but hubby told me I can't have 4 cars. :(

  10. ^ All STI products....STI Intake, STI exhaust, STI uppipe, STI Turbo VF 39, FMIC, STI STS.....but thats just my opinion

I personally wouldn't refer to my Legacy as an STI simply because I have mostly Cobb products

The only thing STI that I have is the STS.

well, i have an STI TMIC, STI Intake Manifold, STI Perrin Inlet Hose, STI coolant reservoir, STI VF39 turbo, SPT/STI intake and heatshield, SPT/STI CBE, STI Front Brembos and STI BBS rims. does that count??? i have a 5EAT, so no STS for me.

  11. ^ She keeps forgetting to add the 1/4 mile was on race gas.

    *edited post above*

you keep neglecting the fact that the DYNO numbers are from tuning for the race map with my race gas mixture. again, the most the car would boost on the dyno was 16 psi while here it boosts at 21 psi. the car was being tuned for: 1/4 tank 90 octane + 32 oz Torco Race Fuel. 98% cycle on stock injectors and fuel.
