Yeah man. I can't believe we did this with all of that stuff. I even went and did some light offroad with all of this mess in Colorado and Utah
It was fun man camping in BLM, Moab, and Colorado at almost 12000 feet!!
I was in Moab a couple weeks ago for biking. It was a long drive (14 hours each way). I took my minivan though because I wanted to be able to fit my bike inside my car and not worry about it being stolen.
Plus I am a sucker for the automated cruise control etc etc that that car has.
My Outback is neglected right now.

@hadvw that should be taken to a pm / another thread. Pretty sure there is an appropriate one floating around.
This thread is for all the people happily waiting for Cobb who don't want to / don't feel the need to investigate other methods of getting Flex Fuel.

I feel like oem might be the way to go. I have 150k on my OEM sensor. It's working fine so far.
I thought a lot about that path and what I wanted to do. Took the 5k I was going to spend on the car and bought a mtb instead. Figured as I am getting older my hobbies should revolve more around reasons to be active.

Yep, them look like wheels

OOOOH!!! the clutch update is WAY overdue!
The worst was uphill stop light freeway entrances, and this one uphill right hander I had to regularly make from a stop. In both cases the clutch would shudder and shake the whole car. Like a solid hub 3 puck. I had to resort to holding the car with the e-brake and giving it more gas and slip than I felt I should have to. Usually I'd smell a little clutch if i got the revs up enough to not shudder.
This was my experience with my last clutch and caused me to burn it out in 20k miles. It never got past the shuddering stage / burning stage on the slightest uphill starts.
My Exedy OEM replacement has been much better. Of course I am only subjugating it to VF52+DP+TMIC power levels. But, it handles that and uphill starts a lot better.
Did you get your AC etc all worked out?

I think you will be happy with it. It lowers the car a bunch (looks great), handles better, and with the KTA124 you can get any rear alignment you want.
Only disadvantage is you have slightly more ground clearance than the average car.
-
If you go with Outback struts your car won't really be lower. Most of the lowering is in the struts. You will get some by lowering specific springs.
Just have to decide your goals.

*Not yet approved for CARB - on the intake
The heat exchanger seems nice.
Does the intake do anything if you are "in hopes of limited mods"?

There were a couple 19in in the original version of this thread. It was only 1-2 people though. Very few go to 19 inch wheels. SublimeJoe - if you search through his threads might have tried / settled on 19s also.

I have one rear racing and one convertible, we had to put the convertible behind the passenger seat because it allowed it to recline a little more. Seeing that Ascent's second row can move back and forth, I would think it would allow for more space then the OB with the bench/captains chair moved all the way back.
Alternatively, could always place one car seat on the 3rd row, allowing the passenger seat to recline much more.
This is why I bought a minivan. I test drove all the 7 passenger suvs and they felt huge outside and small inside. Haven't been inside the Ascent yet, but so far no regrets.

I ugly hacked mine to pieces and then tried to roll that lip. It helped.

I think it might be 10.
You will have to check with your local state for what's required for engine swaps. I think in some states(California) it's basically impossible.

Your wife must have loved that
. Looking forward to seeing what a grown up Fred does to a car.
Is this one Puss?

Yep, for those that are willing / have the supporting mods. Flexfuel is a great option. Being able to run E85 and 91 and not worry about draining tanks / content of E85 to decide which maps to run.
It's an easy choice
In the “grand scheme of horsepower” FlexFuel is a VERY cheap way to get a significant bump. Especially for people that are already in a position to support e85. Sure it’s still going to cost me $2500 for the AP/hardware/tune. However, there are a lot of other motors/platforms that cost THOUSANDS more to mod and still won’t see the 15%ish bump in whp that FF will give me over a 93oct tune. That was really in response to complaining about $165 to get access to the Cobb tuning software. Because in the scheme of car expenses - $3k is not cheap. Especially if you blow up your engine.... In the scheme of adding 15% WHP, while drastically increasing your safety margins, Flexfuel stands out as a really good choice.
@Sparkey - I talk about Flexfuel as a power adder for those who aren't already tuned for E85. Because like you said, if you are, it's not a power adder, just HUGE (if you are lazy and don't measure E content every fill up) safety factor.

I apologize for my earlier statement. For some reason I read 06 NA Impreza. The hood should fit an 06 Outback. That was some bad misinformation from me. Still not a good swap. Best to keep the turbo car turbo.
I was wondering what you were on about.
But OP - Basically you need to take everything out of the Legacy GT from the driver seat forward and put it in the Outback.
Quick / easier to replace the NA engine with an NA engine.
edit: but that wouldn't work because the Outback is an automatic. So you need to convert a Legacy GT manual to a Legacy GT automatic - then shove all that into the Outback NA.
Search on this site for the 1-2 people who did Legacy GT Automatic to Legacy GT manual, read through their threads, realize this is a stupid endeavor and repair / get a new NA engine.

I assumed it would have OTS map, I have the ots stage 2+ tune. Would the custom flex fuel tune work if you have a empty tank of 93 then fill it with e85 and the ecu adujust boost accordly or would i need to switch between 91 and e85 tunes each fill up?
You have to switch out injectors. It's possible that Cobb releases a "OTS" if you have this exact selection of parts. But, I highly doubt it. and they probably wouldn't want to run the risk of providing an OTS map that customers would try and use and end up blowing up their cars.
Flexfuel is not cheap:
1. You need a Cobb V3 accessport
2. You need the Cobb hardware to read the E content
3. You need larger injectors - this alone would make an OTS tune not work
4. You need at least two Tunes
EDIT 5. Forgot fuel.
All in is probably close to $2k. Especially if you can't install the hardware itself. It's great that Cobb is doing this. But, it's not some magic cheap way to get more HP.
You have to pay to play.
Glad to hear the updates. Bought an Accessport earlier this week in anticipation and preparation. Should get it tomorrow. Want to familiarize myself with Accesstuner software since I've been using open source. I have larger injectors, FMIC, VF52, etc., so I'll need to modify the FlexFuel maps to work with my setup (or bring it to a tuner:)).Don't look forward to the $149 "training fee" for the Accesstuner software though after paying $650...
$650 buys you the Cobb hardware and OTS tunes. It doesn't buy you access to **** with your software. $150 seems reasonable as a training fee / don't **** up your car fee. Don't modify your turbo car if you want to bitch about cost. It's all expensive and becomes more so as things start breaking. And things will start breaking on a 13 year old car.

Mostly just Legacy struts / springs. You can remove the sub-frame spacers as well, but not a lot of us go down that path.

Dirty as **** Outback with new toy
Everything stock but wheels: 245/45 18" with +30 offset... The rear tires are being chiseled by the fenders... I have rolled one side with no difference in rub. I think I may have to angle grind where the fender meets the body since that part cannot be rolled.Definitely need to get a camber kit. I'm looking into the BC Racing coilovers (for ride height and dampening adjustability) for the Outback, but it will be a while before I can afford that plus rear upper and lower control arms, new bumpstops (or can I just remove them since I will have coilovers?), and rear trailing arm.
Am I missing something?
Thank you guys for posting your set ups with id #s... it really helps!
Take a look at my build thread for pictures of the fender work / hackery I did. I think I am getting rub rear driver side still though. Not chiseling my fenders but actually hitting the fender liner / body of the car. Unsure why the passenger side is fine.

It's typically only guys in WRXs that wave to me. Don't think any NA has ever waved /back to me.

Did you get the fancy dip stick? And have you noticed more consistent oil level readings because of it if so?

Got my registration for this year. I have to smog my car and show that the recall was performed for the air pump. My air pump is disconnected because it started throwing a CEL...
Here is hoping Subaru will perform the recall without the system actually working....

I want to say yes. But really the answer is no. I am not sure how it interfaces with the center console trim / carpeting. and it seems like the center cubby sits on top of it?
It seems too long for the area it's supposed to go in. I'll just wait for more pictures.
I am super jealous that you have it though. I have wanted that for years.

I threw in a HID kit into my stock (08) headlights without doing anything else. Only been flashed once and I think that's because the beam is slightly too high. Worth it if you are driving at night a lot and super easy.
