  1. Crazy Goat, With the Nexus7 dock, how does that tap into the tablet if the USB and 3.5mm ports are on the bottom of the tablet (the side, in landscape orientation)? EDIT: Answered my own question. It looks like it uses the pogo pins on the bottom
  2. I'll throw some more pictures up when temperatures get above 0* and I can throw this in the dash. Btw, I got a line in some nav buttons, so this project should hopefully be coming to an end
  3. Finally got my gestures app downloaded and realized I had to root the Nexus to get it to work. Everything is back in working condition and the Nexus should be ready to be mounted (for good) tomorrow after work.
  4. Just put some clear packing tape over the front, and start filling in with hot glue. The white glue had been sitting for a week and the clear glue is stuff I literally set a minute ago (to fill in the cracks I couldn't see from before because I used electrical tape) but it will also turn white with time. Keep in mind this is just a temporary solution until I find the nav buttons.
  5. When I get home I'll try and snap a few.
  6. Well I've solved my charging woes. I ordered a 6' long, 24/28 AWG USB cable off amazon. This thing is beefy and it makes all other USB cables you've seen look wimpy. I did a little around-town driving last night with the tablet plugged in and it increased the charge by a few percent in the couple minutes I drove. This morning I turned bluetooth on, gps on, wifi on, and played music from the tablet and it stayed at 100% charge from the time I turned the car on until I got to work (40 minutes). I decided I didn't like the hack job I did on my cubby bezel, so I did a little work to the nav bezel and got the Nexus to fit just like CrazyGoat's. The only thing is I don't have the OEM nav buttons, so in their place I just taped over with scotch tape and put down a ton of hot glue so it's flush with the nav bezel surface and it fills in all the gaps. Those will be there until I can find the nav bezel buttons to go back in their place and I'll wire up the power on/off switch (again) like Crazy Goat.
  7. that sounds good to me- it looks like it's passing through OzCo, so that should be nice and close for a few of us
  8. I started mocking up my nav cubby to fit the Nexus. Got everything to fit, now I just need to make a worthy charging cable and I should be all good to go. I have a ProClip for my GS3 that I want to mount over the right vent to hold my phone with, but I don't want to impede the viewing angles of the Nexus for the passenger. I guess I'll mock it up and then make a decision depending how bad it is
  9. I wonder if there's something we could fabricate to act as a deterrent to wandering eyes. The lady and I are in downtown Milwaukee tonight and we made a special point to park in a well-lit area so as to prevent thieves from looking inside
  10. Yes, I'm using the cubby bezel above, but I think I'm going to redo it with the nav bezel since the screen will be flush with the sides of the opening, and I won't have to completely chop up my vents. I know I could use the Torque app, but I actually prefer to have the ScanGauge as another set of gauges to look. Like you said, that's subjective. Well only a few days into the install, I've noticed that my Nexus is down to 38% battery which means it's not charging fast enough to make up for the drain like CrazyGoat mentioned. I'll rip my setup out, get working on the nav bezel, and wait for a thicker cable to arrive so I can make something long enough (also running my usb cable back to the armrest) that will still provide ample current to charge.
  11. I actually had the oem nav come in my car. I got the cubby bezel from a local member for free when I bought a set of tires from him. I have the mpg gauge that goes with the cubby, but Subaru used a different connector to plug into the back of the nav unit, so I can't even get the mpg gauge to work with the connector anyway without making a new harness. I have a ScanGauge that I use for mileage anyway, and that is suction-cup-mounted to my windshield above the vent nearest to the door.
  12. I got my nexus installed yesterday but I'm still having trouble with the screen timeout, even with AutomateIt Pro. Sometimes it will timeout, sometimes it won't. I'm also going to try and tackle this with the nav bezel instead of the cubby bezel- with the cubby bezel I ended up having to cut into the vents a little bit and now they won't adjust. With the nav bezel at least the screen will be recessed a little bit and hopefully I can avoid the vents. As you can see it's a mess http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/01/01/ba6y3yza.jpg
  13. I bought AutomateIt and it's working beautifully. Thanks for the tips, everyone I got my usb and audio jack relocated to the bottom (when the tablet is in its mounted position) so the wires will run inside the dash and out of sight. I just have to reinstall the vents and I should be good to go
  14. What app do you guys use to turn the nexus off when the power is killed? I'm using settings profiles and can't figure out how to pause the music and turn the screen off when I turn the car off. I also would like to keep the screen on at all times when power is plugged in
  15. Well this is mine. Until I can get a tiny screwdriver to get the 3.5mm jack and the usb relocated on the Nexus, this is how it'll look. It's not pretty but for the time being it will have to do
  16. I'm planning on using mine as a dual purpose music/nav device. I currently have a ScanGaugeII, so I don't need the Torque app right now
  17. That looks beautiful! I'll check this out when I get home from work and can actually watch videos- Thanks for all the documentation, Crazy Goat!
  18. I thought about that at work yesterday and also came to the same conclusion, but I'm also going to do something like Crazy Goat did and make a bracket behind the tablet to keep it in place. I just ordered my Nexus yesterday, so I'm hoping it gets here before my Christmas break is over
  19. Well I broke out both bezels and your suspicions have been confirmed In the first picture the nav bezel is on the right, and it's vents break in 2,but in different spots than the non-nav bezel. In the 2nd picture you can see I removed the vent from the nav bezel
  20. Hmm maybe I'll have to switch to the cubby bezel, which I have laying around at home somewhere. Did you have to modify the vent flaps at all to get your cables in?
  21. mclaren, how did you get your vents to be that short? I took out my nav bezel and the vents are at least 3" longer. I can remove the vents from the bezel, but then it looks like where the usb and audio cables need to go is right where the vent flaps are.
  22. If you could show how you mounted the tablet that would be huge- I'm looking to sell my OEM nav and install the Nexus7, but I have no idea how one would mount it in place.
  23. Saw a silver LGT parked next to me at Domino's in Grafton
