What would you say is rough around the edges? Does it make the throttle a little rough?
-
Mine is 320 also. I'm using ecuflash v1.43 with windows 7 and an ebay vagcom with absolutely no issues. I haven't written to the ecu yet, but it logs and copied the rom with no issue.
-
This has been spelled out before, but I don't remember anyone before KY saying that it actually made a difference. It obviously shouldn't hurt, so I'll try it. We know that the TCU reads the requested torque in addition to other things, but even people who maxed out the whole table said they weren't sure it made a difference.
-
Wait...no megashift yet? so the stock ecu is running everything?
-
It also looks like all gears have 3 separate clutch assemblies engaged when in gear except for 5th gear which has only 2. One of those is shared with 4th. So 5th could easily take out 4th.
-
I know someone here had this done when they had an IPT VB installed. Apparently there was room for 2 more disks...I think.
-
The input clutch connects the input shaft gear assembly to the rear assembly (output shaft) when engaging 4th and 5th. It doesn't appear that the actual gears are failing, just the clutches. It must be a bit weak for extra power. Maybe that is the clutch assembly that some people are adding clutch disks to.
-
LOL! I failed to for replying and not noticing.
-
I wonder if it the input clutch is the culprit. I think it is a shared clutch between 4th and 5th and I think it may take the brunt of the shift shock. I think it is the only clutch in there that is fully engaged in both gears that wouldn't effect any other gears.

Where did you get the transmission cooler?
-
The point (as far as I see it) is to use a setup that he already has and put it into the leggy. Of coarse a twin turbo will give low end AND high end, but it requires money. I get the feeling that Frankster is more of a resourceful badass than a big spender. Anyone can pay a crapload of money and get someone to do an engine swap...it takes skill to do something like this in such a short time.
-
Shit...for $350? Maybe that cheap because you'd be a guinea pig.
-
Have you gotten anywhere with controlling the transmission? I'm curious about how it will act with proper control.
-
You will want to switch to a better sway. The OB one is terrible. It would be useless with the LGT suspension. Go stock LGT sway or aftermarket.
-
I definitely recommend using rubber gloves. I went through about 15 pairs of gloves. Every time I tore a glove, it would have been my skin if I wasn't using them. I made out without a scratch.
-
Very true. I've also had bad experiences with mechanics screwing up bad and not admitting it, so I do pretty much everything myself, I just take time off if it's a big project.
I definitely get a lot of pride out of it.
-
It's more a matter of patience than skill. There was a time when I thought about calling a tow truck and admitting defeat. It's the slow progress and awkward positions.
-
So it can't be done with an ebay cable? I thought there was a CAN-BUS ebay one.
-
hollentino, just understand that unless you go aftermarket, there will be a significant loss of handling. You would need OB springs as well.
-
DONT do it!!! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! Dont defile the clean gt engine.
Dude, he's not putting in a vtec! This is a beast of an engine. Nothing wrong with that.
-
I hate you for having the time for this! I can barely find time to wash my car, let alone something like this.
-
+1 hurry. You are eating up your rear tires with the toe if you can see it.
-
I'm glad I only have to do this every 60k miles or so. This was beyond a PITA. I'd rather pull the trans off my former mini. With a design like this, they should have stuck with regular plug wires and forgot about the individual coils.
-
Me too! As soon as I get my cable and get familiar with the available software, I'll do what i can to help. Unfortunately, my development experience is with java and python and is somewhat limited.
