  1. wowzers. dat color. I love it. Similar to the Scat Pack B5 blue. Only other color i love more is destroyer/nardo gray. Is that Grabber Blue? Do you mind me asking what you paid?

  2. I've not even had the chance to take it on a spirited drive yet, so I can't really give an assessment yet. I was impressed with the basic competence on the test drive, which included a couple of local roundabouts. I'll post up some impressions after I get a chance to really drive it.

     

    One thing I've been impressed by is the aftermarket support direct from Ford. I can buy a CAI/throttle body/tune combo that makes 20+hp, and good torque gains, is CARB certified, and retains warranty for $800. They also have a complete suspension package for ~$1300 that has been getting decent reviews as a dual duty upgrade. So, about $2k plus brake pads, and maybe wheels, and I should be done modding this thing.

    I hear they take very nicely to e85 and bolt ons. That would be my first route.

  3. yes the visibility, or lack thereof would take some getting used to.

    I do love the 18' GT perofrmance pack, and I hear it is much more daily driver friendly. a few 10ths of a second can easily be overcome by some aftermarket parts, so i'm not too worried about straight line speed.

    How does it handle? The newer cars have a square 305 setup on 10.5 and 11" rims, which is much like the z/28s. but at damn near 50K, i just cant justify the performance pack. May just wait it out til end of the year and see what kind of deals they are tossing out.

    The biggest issue with ford vs. chevy is they don't lease out GT's -_-

    I went from LGT 5EAT wagon (crashed), to a Ford Flex EcoBoost which is absolutely fantastic car for sooooo many reasons. But not an enthusiast's car.

     

    But then! I found out right before school year I don't have to drive morning carpool for at least another year and a half

     

    Planning on E90 M3 sedan, auto (heavy Miami traffic) ... probably without EDC

     

    Great choice (with a warranty). Love those cars.

  5. I went to the ford dealer after i test drove a 2018 red hot SS 1LE on saturday. There were no performance pack 2018 GTs on the lot. Im really close to pulling the trigger on the 1LE depending on what I can get for the LGT. I do want to drive the Mustang before I make my decision though...

  6. Just got back from driving an SS 1LE 6 speed. I absolutely love it. We were talking #s for about an hour, and finally got an offer that is really close to what I was hoping for. Seriously considering it if I can get a good price for the LGT. I want $12K, Stage 2 shortblokc with 2K miles, 6 speed, JDM front end brand new respray on the whole car. I doubt I'll get 12K but if I get 10 i'd prob walk away from it.
  7. To sit where I sit 255s are going to be a super bitch to try and make fit, I don't like 35 sidewalls, I think they look too goofy. With my 235/40s I still had to do a pretty aggressive roll, a light pull, cutting the inner of both bumpers and liners. You can call RT Tuning in Montgomeryville PA, they stock a lot of NT03s in these specs since they are discontinued by Enkei. That's what I would do if I were you. When I got mine they had a ton of color options but I can't remember if SBC was one. I feel like it was but I can't make any promises. Ask to speak with Erik and tell him Michael Shipman sent you.

     

    Yeah, which is why i think im just gonna stick with my 18x8.5 +45 Wed SA10R for now. Should fit decently, not too much of a hack job for it.

  8. There are cars that meet the performance specs without the V8, which IMO is outdated and unnecessarily thirsty. Also unless that trunk will fit a stack of 2x4s and a 6ft folding table, I would definitely miss the folding seats. I don't always want to hook my trailer up to go to the hardware store.

     

    The point not being the car doesn't have some features of other cars, the point being for the price they should be there. What do fold down seats cost, really?

     

    Sounds to me like your best option is to keep the LGT and get a beater pickup for those weekend trips to home depot...

  9. They're actually selling for ~45-46k new. I know the steering may not be "ideal". Still haven't finalized it, just leaning that way.

     

    Just curious what would you pick for ~40-50k? For me, 4 doors and auto are a must. Kinda want 400 hp+.

     

    Worried about repair bills from german cars and reliability post-warranty. As you can see from the username - I've had a few VWs..

     

    I'd go german or SS Sedan 6 speed personally if I had 40-50K...Then again I have a soft spot for E39 M5's. If you can go to a coupe, i'd def look at the american market, namely a Camaro SS 1LE or 2SS package.

    Have you looked into the Charger Scat Pack? Those are a riot with 485hp and 245 tires...Maybe cpo CTS-V also. The options are there, just depends what you are after.

  10. Leaning Q50 Red Sport.. S3 is nice too, but I worry about major $$ to replace the DSG in case of problems and then there's dieselgate...

     

    Starting at 50K? nah, not for me. For 50K there are too many choices out there. Hope you enjoy it though. I hear the new steering setup on the Qs leaves a lot to be desired.

    I was Door to door a q60 red sport the other week from a 50 roll.

  11. Prob mentioned but I’m an eying the Audi RS3. A bit smaller but a rocket ship! Fastest in its class with style but not overdone. Waiting for slightly used models to appear as new price tag is stupid right now

    You should look at a CPO S3 (~30K) and do simple DSG and JB4 tunes on it. You'll be RS3 fast and save ~20K in the process.

    Or, Golf R and same as above. Cost of admission is much less.

  12. So suggesting options that could be causing issues, and asking what you have done is trolling? Well i know 1 person that will not be helped.

    I have taken these motors apart as well as many others.

    If you are a pro at doing everything, why tell people about a misfite on 4? Are you expecting people to sympathize or try to help.

    Epic waste of time trying to help people like this so this is def my last.

     

    Just an FYI TechWorks makes shimmed buckets for high lobed cams. Maybe you should look into them on your next build.

     

    He's simply updating the thread since a lot of people are interested in his build such as myself, not sure if he is asking for help.

     

    After going Stage 2+ IAG block and building my heads, i'm hoping for a reliable 11-12 second car that I can have fun with on the weekends. Shooting for 10's is awesome, but just not in the cards for me money wise. Good luck with the decision. I've always heard outfront closed decks are unbreakable, but i guess its been proven otherwise lol.

    .....because, like this, it just sounds like some personal preferences. Do either of you, or anyone, have any personal experience that speaks to the reliability or to any "issues" associated with these that goes beyond "That's not a real AMG"?

     

    Not trying to start an epic argument here...even though that seems to be the direction that this thread is going lately. I am genuinely interested in these and would love to hear what other LGT owners...WITH ACTUAL EXPERIENCE...have to say about these.

     

    Reviews are generally based on 50/50 experience and opinion, so theres that...All I've heard about those CLA AMGs are the same as what was said here. I don't think MT or R&T has done any long term tests on these cars, so there isn't much to base it on besides forum reviews. And we all know MB fanbois are the same as STi fanbois, so...

    I've sat in a CLA, and it's pretty subpar on interior quality. Not up to MB specs, that's for sure. They were trying to steal customers from BMW on the lower end 3 series, and sitting in both the star goes to the bimmer for sure.

    A review from someone who was very interested in the car

    "This is my personal review of this car from the vantage point of someone that was actually going to buy it and was excited enough to pester his local dealer since the car was announced to have one specially brought in to test drive. I feel that I was Mercedes target buyer for the car. Previous Mercedes customer (and continued owner), non-AMG owner, early 30's, enthusiast, can afford it, etc. I feel there is a difference when you are reviewer plainly reviewing a car or you are an enthusiast actually going to buy a car. I posted on oppo and just feel the need that it should be posted again after your full review. There is no way, price taken into account, that this car should register anywhere near a 70.

     

    I was waiting for this car to come out for months and managed to get a special test drive at my local Mercedes dealer. I figured this would be the perfect car for me and my wife to replace our trusty C class as a winter car. The car was supposed to be small, fast, agile, look good (I know subjective), and 4matic (I live where it snows). It was supposed to blend core Mercedes brand values with a wild with an AMG tuned chassis and engine. Key words are "supposed to."

     

    When I got to the dealer, I saw the car eagerly sitting in the corner all prepped for me. Well, the looks were kind of what I expected, except for the interior. Oh that interior! That interior is where the first signs that this car might be "craptastic" showed. The plastics were hard, the B pillar had an almost 1in gap where the body color showed through, and the standard seats were junk (the optional Recaros rectify this). In addition, I was greeted by a large wart of a nav display that would have looked cheap and out of place on a Dodge Dart. No offense to Dart owners but the sticker on the car I drove was about $60k and I expected a more elegant solution than just sticking a screen awkwardly on top of and sticking out of the dash. It is all about perceived values and perceptions. Hard plastics and a wart of a display screen shouldn't be present. Also, you would have to be a hobbit to fit in the back seat, but I kind of expected that with the roofline, so no foul there.

     

    Fine, this is a sporty car and a sporty car can be low frills, and I agree. However, again, the car was optioned to the better part of $60k. I just couldn't see it, however I am not the type that would shun a car based on its interior (My wife is). So on to the driving experience. I wish I could tell you you are in for a treat to drive this car for a week, but I would be lying.

     

    On start up it sounded like any crappy high strung 4cyl. For those of you hoping it would blend Mercedes quality (see above) and a Subaru WRX STI's engine note, you will be very disappointed (optional sport exhaust should fix this too). None of this holds a candle to how the car drives. Driving the car was the shocking let down. The power was decent but really didn't feel as powerful as it is. The DCT box was horrible in traffic and not much better once the road opened. It was even a bit slow-witted for my taste, but of course that is subjective. The real kicker was the 4matic. It was not the rear biased 4matic that I know and loved in my C-class (and spoiler alert, now E-class). It is pretty similar to the "4wd" that is in a Nissan Rogue or any cheap economy car. Basically it's 100% front wheel drive until there is slippage. Not bad on a $20k grocery getter. Appalling on anything that is an AMG product. I actually felt the power jumping from front to back when I accelerated on a loose surface. It drives like a cheap front wheel drive car until the front tires get overwhelmed, then it drives like a cheap "4wd" car.

     

    I didn't even touch on the "ride" or lack there of yet. My summer car is a heavily massaged Porsche Boxster that has been lowered and fettled with to provide more grins per mile than any car I have even driven. To say it is stiff is an understatement, but low and behold, the CLA AMG was stiffer without the subtle supple control that the Porsche has. I was almost convinced that AMG just cut the springs to lower it and put on the stiffest shocks they could find just to make it feel "sporty." To make a car handle, you don't have to reduce the ride characteristics to crap. AMG obviously trusted designing the suspension package to an intern, on their lunch break.

     

    When I got back to the dealer, I was gutted and displeased to say the least. If you want a sporty sedan and can wait — wait for the 4matic C AMG that will inevitably come out next year. This should be the car that prospective CLA AMG buyers were waiting for. Avoid this little Mercedes mongrel at all costs. The cheap, front drive architecture shows through and is appalling in a car of this price.

     

    As for me I let I was pretty annoyed when we got back to the dealer and let the wife pick the car. I ended up getting an E350 4matic Sport (just a "nice" car). The "Sport" is a complete misnomer but it never puts on a pretense that it is a sporty car. However, it is fast, comfortable, a great winter car, comfortable, has a column shifter, and is comfortable. On second thought, it drives like a car with a column shifter but that's a story for another time..."
