I decided I didn't like the hack job I did on my cubby bezel, so I did a little work to the nav bezel and got the Nexus to fit just like CrazyGoat's. The only thing is I don't have the OEM nav buttons, so in their place I just taped over with scotch tape and put down a ton of hot glue so it's flush with the nav bezel surface and it fills in all the gaps. Those will be there until I can find the nav bezel buttons to go back in their place and I'll wire up the power on/off switch (again) like Crazy Goat.
pics?

I wonder if there's something we could fabricate to act as a deterrent to wandering eyes. The lady and I are in downtown Milwaukee tonight and we made a special point to park in a well-lit area so as to prevent thieves from looking inside
I am totally with you. I currently have a fairly expensive sound system in my car but I've made sure during the install that nothing can be seen when one looks inside.
Until I find a way to get a lid on top of the nav system (or Nexus for that matter), I'll probably wait to do this mod.

That kinna sucks then. If I want to install my Nexus 7, I'd have to get a nav bezel then, which I don't own at the moment. Plus I'd have to relocate my OEM mpg gauge and airbag passenger warning light unit.
Personally, I would LOVE to have a nav bezel which gives a very good fit of the Nexus 7 AND a lid on it like the cubby bezel. This way, when I am out of the car, I can close the lid and 'hide' the Nexus 7. I would seriously love that.

I actually had the oem nav come in my car. I got the cubby bezel from a local member for free when I bought a set of tires from him. I have the mpg gauge that goes with the cubby, but Subaru used a different connector to plug into the back of the nav unit, so I can't even get the mpg gauge to work with the connector anyway without making a new harness. I have a ScanGauge that I use for mileage anyway, and that is suction-cup-mounted to my windshield above the vent nearest to the door.
I see. But the bezel shown in your pic above, which one is it? I am assuming cubby?
On another note, you could install the Torque app on your Nexus to give you the instant/average mpg gauges, boost, etc (plus read/clear CEL codes as well). This way, you would not have to have anything mounted on your windshield. Anyways, that's subjective.

That's right, the provided OEM cable is short. So I was just picturing a regular AC extension cord for the Nexus charger which would run behind the deck, going under the center console and maybe to a small power inverter tucked in underneath your seat or something.
Like I said, not the prettiest and most efficient in my opinion but it would work and meet the issues you have mentioned regarding charging that device.
-
If you had a small power inverter you could just use the Nexus charger. Not the best but it would work.
I am assuming here you'd also use the provided USB cable. Forgot to mention it.

I got my nexus installed yesterday but I'm still having trouble with the screen timeout, even with AutomateIt Pro. Sometimes it will timeout, sometimes it won't.
I'm also going to try and tackle this with the nav bezel instead of the cubby bezel- with the cubby bezel I ended up having to cut into the vents a little bit and now they won't adjust. With the nav bezel at least the screen will be recessed a little bit and hopefully I can avoid the vents. As you can see it's a mess

So this pic above is with the cubby bezel then? If yes, where did you relocate the mpg gauge?

The only thing I dislike with a touch screen device is that you have to stare at the screen if you want to change a track or play/pause, increase volume,etc..

That looks beautiful! I'll check this out when I get home from work and can actually watch videos- Thanks for all the documentation, Crazy Goat!
+1. Very nice indeed.

^ nice job. The next 'expensive' app (also 5 bucks) you should get is the Torque app to monitor, read, and clear CEL codes. Two years later, I still love this app! and I bet on the Nexus 7, it'll look great.

My cyl 4 cracked.
add 2 others from outbackxt05 and 1 from Scooby2.5.
And hopefully not me. Got one misfire on 4 a month ago...

Yep thats partly what I was referring to. I started a thread with that article and it was pretty heated pretty quick.... LOL!!
Care to share the link? Or I guess I can search all the threads you've started.
I am actually thinking of creating a poll for people who've had a cracked ringland. I want to know which cylinder got affected. I am wondering if there's one that's mostly affected (like #4). I remember bmx mentioning that cylinder #4 is the last one getting fuel and can run lean more often than others. But I am not sure.

I read this article yesterday. Though more than a year old, it is a fairly good read.

Really though, is it the piston fault to 'fall apart on its own' or is it the injector's fault not doing its job properly, which in turns messes up the piston? Or is it the stock tune's fault?
Kinna like blaming the VF40 being junk when really it usually fails due to oil starvation.
-
Did you ever check your injectors?

Yeah, nothing I can do about customs. I've shipped you something in France before though and it went quick. Best to wait until you are back there I think.
correct.
-
If you want to buy one and have me hold it until you say "ship", that's fine too (I assume you are without your car right now, so it would be pretty useless for me to ship you a kit...?)
Correct. Let's do that then. I know you ship fast but the French customs in Tahiti are REALLY slow at processing and clearing packages (can take 1.5 month easy). Plus they tax things like crazy. So I'd rather wait till I get back.

Hey BMB, not sure what to do in my case: usually staying in the world of cheese but currently in a world of coconut trees for another month (hint pacific time).
So, what do you advise?
-
^I have that one and use it for when I need to replace my CV boots (will probably use it again for the next cracked CV boot ).
-
Payment received, and you are correct!
Crap

I see. I am assuming you can no longer use the camera nor the built mics right?
-
Having the device slightly tucked in the dashboard, can you tell if the built-in GPS has a harder time locating satellites?
