will prolly look at this about 20 times while doing it. lol
I do the same!

If your half moons are cooked, one of us can send them to you, just ask us.
Thank you.
-
-
Just in case, those are the correct head gaskets right ?
-
Where are the half moons for the valve covers ? Stop by the dealer and pick them up.
They are apparently not part of the kit. I'll probably reuse mine. No dealer here.
-
Thanks a lot sir. I'll try later on tonight to play the 'matching game' .

I just bought a full gasket kit for my OBXT 05. I'd like to confirm with you guys that the kit is not missing anything. I also thought that it'd be useful to actually provide a detailed list of its content since I can't find one. So I provided a picture where the items are numbered. I don't know what they're all for (yet) and I don't have time right now to figure it out but I will later tonight.
Edit 1: I have uploaded new pictures. I've renumbered the items on one of the pictures to match the itemized list on post #2 below from Underdog. This way, it'll be easy to check your parts in your kit. I can confirm that my kit is now complete. I still don't know what some of the 'orings' will be used for. I'll figure it out and post later.

Edit 2: Here is some more info I found on this thread for the various orings in the kit:
item #3: 10991AA000 goes in between the block halves and between the block and oil pump
item #4: 806931020 wrist pin cover gasket
item #5: 806932030 goes in between the block halves
item #8: 806910170 gaskets for the bottom of the dipstick tube
item #9: 806917070 o-ring for oil pickup tube inside oil pan
item #10: 11122AA000 this goes between the oil pan and the block
item #17: 806939040 AVCR intake cam oil covers (the triangular covers held to the front of each intake cam sprocket by 3 philips/8mm bolts)
item #26: 806922040 This may be the recirc valve kneck o-ring (located at the base of the oil filler neck)
item #37: 803912040 copper banjo bolt washers (except for the turbo oil feed)
item #38: 803910050 copper turbo oil feed banjo gaskets
item #39: 806933010 coolant crossover o-ring
Edit 3: I assigned items #18 and #20 wrong on the picture. It should be backwards: GREEN is for exhaust and Gray/black for intake.
Edit 4: Items 28 and 29 should be switched on the picture.
Edit 5: fixed items 9 and 10 descriptions to match the pictures. Credit: SktmltS--see post 61
Edit 6: added a bit of info for item#26

Thanks for posting the pics. I may do the same thing for now.

on my newly-acquired OBXT shortly
Welcome to the club .

I told that to the mechanics but they said no ways due to no puffing through oil filler . Teardown should begin next week. Any other test you'd think of to help pinpoint rings or valves? Cause the mechanic is planning indeed to mostly work on the valves and leave the block alone.
I posted an LV from last saturday here--> http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/compression-leak-down-question-187371p5.html?t=187371&page=5
sorry Byron for threadjacking .
-
Is your compression zero or is it lower than the others? Zero is usually a sign of a valve issue, low is usually a sign of ring land.

10% leak through rings, read 30 psi less than #2. no 'puff puff' through oil filler, and no real sign of excessive oil being burnt. Both mechanics bets are on valve clearance (they're not Subaru gurus though).
-
Just like me then . I have an issue in #4 though my issue may be valve related.
I don't want to threadjack and start a debate here, but I mean it can't be the piston's fault in #4 since the piston and rings must be built to the exact same specs as the other 3. So the issue must come from either fuel delivery, ignition, or timing.
-
^ let me guess, in both cases you got problems on #4?
-
^ could you provide a 'profile' picture where we can actually see how the N7 holds in place on that grippy pad?
Have you tried to do a couple hard pull and see if it moves a bit?
-
Having had 3 different Subaru dealers rebuild my OEM engines over the years, I would NEVER trust them to build one if I were paying for it. ($89/hr is also very cheap for an hourly rate).

What kind of problems were you encountering down the road?
-
great write up, just got my car to stage 1! Couldn't have done it without this.
How does it compare to the stock map?
-
Replacing the boot does not correct worn bearings within the joint. For the $75-$100 for a re-manufactured unit (with a lifetime warranty) you are wasting your time replacing boots. The bearings are what are spinning with every revolution of your tires.
Sure. I am assuming one can change a torn boot if and only if it is caught on time.
-
CV boot w/ straps and grease from Rock Auto just under $19 shipping included.
A CV boot banding and cutter tool, 32mm impact socket both from Amazon just under $33 shipping included.
So for a total of just under $52 you can replace the boot plus get the experience and know how for next time, which will be cheaper then because you bought the banding/cutting tool and socket the first time. Plus, you don't have any unwanted parts laying around your garage/house collecting dust and taking up space.
Just my .02
+1. I've changed two boots thus far and they are both holding just fine. One has 30000 miles and the other 20000. I've already bought another kit just in case .

knowing how you drive thats all i would give you if i was a dealer
-
pretty sure it's a 2.0i premium, so NA.
.
-
meanwhile I get to drive around in a '12 impreza. so there's that lol.
NA or turboed?
-
I can't imagine they like a customer coming in saying 'I know what the problem is, fix that!'. will report back.
-
Surprisingly, yes. For instance, there's two different brightness levels for the map lights when you open the door (dimmer) versus manually turning them on (brighter). When you close the doors and lock the car with the fob, the lights slowly fade out. Works really well!
That's great. I'll probably buy them as well. Thanks for the feedback.
-
Can they also dim when for instance you close the door?
