Disconnecting the battery resets what the ECU has 'learned' in terms of optimal fuel management, and erases any possible stored CEL, but does NOT erase the installed map.
That's what I've been using for the past 6 years. I love them. Clip-ins are the way to go in my opinion especially if you do very technical trails (e.g. slickrock in Moab), as they help you keep your momentum a little better than regular pedals in very steep sections.

How about the coil pack connectors? Did you make sure white ones are towards the front of the engine, and black ones in the back?
The guy who rebuilt my engine messed that up on the driver side. Luckily I checked that out before my engine went back in the car .
