  1. Welcome to the forum.

I have not paid much attention to the Datsun scene since the late 90's, when I transitioned to Subies.  I did get a bug up my arse and go look at a few 240z's recently with the intention to buy a 72.  Regrettably, I am probably 30 years too late to the party.  I cant get over paying $30-$40k for a car I could have purchased for under $4k when I originally wanted one.   Found a REALLY nice R34 RHD in Carlisle, PA (ECM 23!) last week.   But the owner was not shy about the $100k asking price.  Sorry, for 6 figures it needs to have a bedroom and bath attached.

So I built a sim rig and drive my 72Z like I stole it every night.  Offroad even.  LOL.

    You talking about me? :)

    Calling @m sprank as well.

Great looking car dude!! ‘72 Z is be the car I would buy if I had all the money and could only pick one.

I got priced out of S30s a long time ago tho, shoulda snagged one of several I had the chance to own over the years. Too late now.

I went with a PL510 instead, since it’s still a Datsun, and still cool in my mind, but a *little* more affordable to own and run.

The L20B will never sound as good as a straight 6, but what can you do?

I'm too tired to read. Is that a FAIRLADY????    I would give my left nut for a 2.0 roadster.

  3. I chopped a coyote in half with my 91 ser.  The front bumper sat about 1" off the ground.  I caught air.  So did wiley. Both of him.  Sorry about the 86.

It's modding. Case came with a bracket, I had never used one. After testing, zero change to temps or gpu benchmarking. Less stress on mb and pcb so.... vertical?

Button box is done. Test was a success.  New cable for perm mount arrives tomorrow. Going to test a streamdeck as well.  But the tactile button box is all about immersion.

Under $30 for a 7.1 usb external sound card. So.... wiring up my bass shakers as front/rear and left/right (1 for each corner) and having sim hub send the signals based on telemetry rather than just the audio bass. Immersion.

  4. Technically your 86 can generate approx 6nm of torque at the wheel. My sim can generate 25nm of torque. That's like your 86 at 1000mph.  I just don't get the same adrenaline from g forces and fear.

No its not real driving.  But we live in the Matrix anyway.

  5. Single monitor is from console. I can now support triple screens (32's) with my gpu. But its MONEY. So that's on the future mod list. Motion is more than I can afford. Single 55" 120hz 4k oled it is for now.

Like I said, it's as done as anything modded. I saw a few bits I liked more. So I bought all that new, returned old and put in a few more hours of labor.

Hopefully the PC is done. Lol.

  6. Took a break to do a thing.  My sim rig is as complete as any modders project.  I have some final soldering to do and then dump some code into the controller on my button box.  I have some Hue lights coming for immersion (I work for Philips).  But I am "driving" again for the first time in over 3 weeks.

Little known fact, IPT was not my first small business.  From early 2000 until 2008 I owned IcedPC.  Built custom gaming computers, desktops, office machines, servers and set up small business networks.  I held the 3dMarks world record for a short period and was sponsored by Asus, BFG, Danger Den and then EVGA.  Water cooling, Peltiers and eventually liquid nitrogen cooling to reach the WR.  I have not built a PC or spent much thought on the industry since.

Like riding a bike.  My new 13thgen i913900k, Z790 Plus WIFI, RTX4090, 2TB NVME, 1000w, liquid cooled silicon lottery winner.  OC'd to 5.6ghz, ram at 7200mhz, running 0.05v under OEM intel spec.  Prime95 stable for 24 hours.  4K at 140+FPS with all setting on ULTRA.  If it can be made to go faster, I can do it.

New rig hardware is all Fanatec.  Podium DD2 wheel base.  20nm of linear torque and 25nm of peak torque.  Dedicated emergency kill switch (leg activated like a real race car).  Wrist breaking shit.  7 speed shifter, inverted pedals, a real hand brake.  Plus 4 different wheels, one for rally, one for GT, one for modern sports cars and one for F1.  Not leaving my basement until spring.

  7. The wagon is few hours away, but good find.  I might call them on it.

I spoke with the house owner.  He is sending out all his rental contracts in early November (he obviously runs a business based on renting the multiple vacation homes he owns).  Everything is good to go (so far). I requested a floor plan, he is working on it.  I suspect I might get a cocktail napkin drawing, lol.

Any chance you can elaborate on the reason why you don't like to use ACT products?

Clutches that go boom like a grenade.  Poor engagement and broken springs.   So little engineering that they will sell you a FW light enough to cause misfires.  Back in the early 90's they were the go to.  Not so much anymore.

  9. I looked at three cars.  71 240z automatic, 72 240z mt and a 78 280z mt.  All asking in the $30k range.

I realize that finding the perfect car is not going to happen within my budget.  I saw good and bad in all three.  The good outweighed the bad.  The prices make me reconsider and the wife has laid into me fairly hard.  I would never admit to a "mid-life crisis" purchase as I have made those regularly since financial solvency.  But the wife has a point that nothing I am looking at is "practical".  All the cars are garage queens and I need a daily.  I hate it when what I dont want makes sense and what I do want is obviously a poor decision.  If I was 10 years younger (ie, no kids) I would already have driven the 72 home.

So rather than jump off the deep end, I am taking a step back.  Buying nothing and keeping my eyes open.  Will be looking for a cheap truck or SUV while I wait it out.  Something "practical" that runs would leave me the open loop hole.

Man I remember when you could snag a 240z for under a grand with a little bit of searching through an auto trader or a decent one for like $1,500

1990-1992.  I had my eye on a 72 240z in town for a few years. It went up for sale in late 91. I was still a senior and living at home. Dad said F yeah and mom said F no. F no it was. F you on that one mom. I built a turbo b13 sentra instead.

  11. I hear you.  Could not find a wagon, so I did not pull the trigger.  Wanted the SpecB's for the 6MT's and aluminium (euro, eh?) bits.  Plan was to build a race wagon.

There is a 71 240z ALL ORIGINAL with very little body work done during restoration for sale locally.  $28k.  Its an automatic or I and the 4Runner money would have separated ways.  So, Fanatec got a chunk of my money and I continue to upgrade my virtual car.
