its probably just as illegal as flashing your stock ecm ! " whats the problem officer.. sir pease step out of your vehical... whats the problem officer ? .. sir we have information that you purchased hardware and software to modify the computer in your car thats was intended for offroad use only and your car is being used on the road.. but officer i only use that when i go to the race track.. how dumb do you think we are ? The cruise control and dbw will still work ! i promise ! i have disabled the check engine codes for tcu p0700 and with the tranny up pluged the cruse still works .. i will prety much disable all trubble codes. the stock ecm will read water temp and rpm i might give it a maf reading if i feel generous ! also the dbw is independant it looks at rpm and pedal position. you can un plug the coolant temp sensor the cam sensors the tumble sensors pretty much everything and still have throttle control. if there is a can cumunication error with the tcu i was wondering about making the computer think the car is manual tranny. i wonder what is required to do so ? a jumper some where? -

well for offroading the traction control systems work great .. Where it applys the spining wheels break and passes the power to the wheel with traction .. my rental chevy impalla works great climping the mountans in washing st ! had that thing sitting on 3 wheels a bunch of times!!!! -

thats 4 eat. I will dismantel the center diffrential and replace the gear set with a coupling. the clutches and carrier will remaine to activate the front drive. I want to try this seams like a lot of fun. but i may revert to awd with lockable center diffrential. -

350 won't fit ! w/o big modifications. i have a 79 camaro with 400 small block 600 hp and i'm goint to replace that with a 3.8 turbo as well. i'm not a big fan of nawwws too easy.. and i don't like things that run out. My sunbird was to the floor corner to corner in all of its 3 years of existance. front brake pads last a month on those 9.7" front rotors. i was going to convert it to awd using a one of those new gm crossovers. But i think droping it in the subaru is a much better idea over all the handeling and look of the legacy with responce and pull of a grand national. only concerns i have at the time is being able to maintain the cruise control and cluster operation. The plan is to take the subaru crank triggor from subaru scan it with 50 $ walmart scanner scale it up so i can attach it to either the fly wheel or damper. With that the dash will have rpm signal. the dbw throttle boddy will be used and that contains the map and tps witch will be wired into the megasquirt. the tranny will operate as normal. Then i will replace the tcu with a automation direct plc http://www.automationdirect.com/adc/Shopping/Catalog/Programmable_Controllers/CLICK_Series_PLCs_(Stackable_Micro_Brick)/PLC_Units/C0-00DD1-D inputs will be shift buttons, torq lock up, auto/ manual mode , tps , 2wd /4wd comand. the rest is fabing motor plate .. mostlikely laser cut 1/4" thick plate cupple motor mounts and exaust. -

i live in monttreal , i'm in washington state for busness not far from vancouver ! going to use the 5eat as described in the first post. I will also do my mod to make the tranny rear wheel drive. and with a flip of a switch 4wd. parts wise . summit racing. Parts for grand nationals have been around forever so they are easily availiable. this same engine ran 12.70 @ 117 mph in the 1/4 mile in my sunbird. in completely stock form now with a cam that has more than .300" valve lift (now .500") it should have a lot more breathing room. with this 3.8 and automatic it should be able to leave a stop light either buring off the back tires or click in the 4wd. the holset hx 35 is actually a small turbo for a 3.8 so it should be able to get up and go almost instantly. and mega squirt with anti lag should make 4wd burn outs easy to do. -

it fits under the hood .. the h4 is pretty heavy compared to an all aluminum I4. Yes it will be heavier but i'm willing to make that sacrafice. witch is also easily over come by larger rear sway bar. -

maybe 40 lbs heavier. -
So next week i will begin swaping in a 1987 buick 3.8L v6 in to my 05 legacy gt. I thought long and hard about this. Reasons being cost to build 600 hp subaru engine a lot ! at least 6 grand. specs of the 3.8 buick engine 230 ft lbs tq at 1900 rpm no boost 550 ft lbs tq 3800 rpm @19 lbs boost 3.5" stroke 3.8" bore cost of parts motor 200$ crank shaft and connecting in stock form good for 750 hp cost of race roller cam shaft 250$ 450$ for set of weisco pistons 200$ for set of cometic head gaskets Installation : the stock dbw throttle body from the legacy will be used, motor plate will be fabricated, and then mated to the 5eat with rwd/4wd conversion and automation direct plc will be used for full manual shifting. Mega squirt fuel management. 12 36# lb/hr injectors and factory buick ignition system. Fed by holset hx 35w turbo.

NO! hahaha put your tranny with my tq ehind my engine and i will blow the center diff out of it instalntly with out even driving out of the garage . as for you guys talking about tool steels .. you guys don't seam to get the point .. the aluminum brass busing replaces the needle bearings so the brass is the bearing now .. if you replaced it with hard tool steel it would chew in to either the gear or the shaft and be broken in a week. you can't have two hard surfaces rubbing on eachother. its always a hard surface on a soft surface. for the guy wondering if you have to drop the tranny .. well you don't drop the exaust and rear drive shaft and your there. -

5eat center diffrential bulletproofing how to

how much stronger ? well probably twice as tuff. the needle bearings that were in there are like glass.. there excelent in high wear situations but in high load situations such as a connecting rod a bushing is much more relaiable. also the bushing puts the stress in more of a "direct shear situation" for the farmers out there.. lest say you have a draw pin and its 3 feet long between the toungs on the wagon .. you could bend that pin pretty easily. but if the toungs on the wagon are 1/4" wider than the tractor drawbar that same size pin will never bend. for you weight lifters if you lift the bench press bar in the middle it will bend .. if your hads are right next to the weights it won't. thats the idea. since my engins is prodcing over 350 ft lbs tq and the torq converter dubbles that so 700 ft lbs x 3.54 for first gear 2478 ft lbs of torq divided in to those for little pins .. and well snap! cost of pins .. well .. if you had one made at a machine shop .. it would cost you 20-30$ if you had a few hundred made it would cost you 5$ a peice .. its a failry simple up grade. that a diy guy could do in an afternoon and cost less than a 100$ So if you guys have any questions let me know
