im my experience its usually the turbo side plastic elbow or connections,check for oil residue on the top of the turbo. also check the clamps on the throttle body side. I dont recall the jdm throttle body pipe having the collar like the USDM, its more of a hard plastic pipewith rubber o-rings inside

twinscroll?

i sent them a mail to ask what the best twinscroll option they have, that spools as quick as vf36 but has better top end, im guessing it will be something like a td05/06 20G with billet compressor wheel, not sure about the turbine housing side though

guys what difference does the size of the turbine housing make? the twinscroll 20g im looking at has a 10cm. Will it be very laggy with that compared to a 8cm for example?

I tired getting the milltek stuff before for mine and it isn't being made anymore. No demand for it i was told. My Milltek DP is impreza fitment, so needed a bit of custom piping to work with the rest of my exhaust setup

it will be interesting to see what a TS billet 20G can do on a 2.0 jdm alright

ive always been twinscroll so im used to it! there is a very subtle rumble, but nothing compared to you single scroll guys! I can get a the one mentioned for $965 aud delivered which is similar to usd. I might try negotiate that price in return for a good review for them!

im actually getting one of these turbos soon myself, im going for their td05 20g billet twinscroll turbo, should be a nice upgrade from my vf36 and hopefully not too laggy.

if its a manual then it should be a td04HLA-19T, the vf38 is usually found in the autos, well thats how it is with the jdm models which i think are the same spec as the NZ ones?

is yours a manual or an auto? i havent heard anything bad about the vf38's before. they do have a unique twinscroll setup not found on any other model in the subaru range

I'm not sure what rev I have I was one of the first beta testers for the rhd ones so I must find out of lossol which I have. I would really like to be able to get it to be able to display at least oil temp. I don't want to have to stick big ugly gauges on the dash!

are these features available for the RHD beta units? Im guessing ill probably have to send mine back and get new firmware/hardware to make it work

I actually got this working on mac using the ebay cable running through virtualbox, i downloaded the cable drivers for mac first, then selected the serial-usb device in virtual box and then installed the windows drivers for it, lowered the baud rate and happy days!

i had this working fine on my windows netbook until it died, new charger ordered but i need to do some logs tomorrow. Has anyone got a cheap ebay vagcom cable working with rom raider or learning view on a mac? Only option i have at the minute

can you do that with jdm VIN's aswell?

good write up, ill be upgrading mine soon and this will help a lot. Is there any risk of damage to your pump pulling the fuse like that and letting it cut out?

Thanks for the advice mike I want aware of the problems with them. Local tuner will finish off my map so hopefully no need for me to buy the tactrix cable at the minute

i dunno Mike, im pretty sure i downloaded the latest version of EcuFlash 1.42 and it works with my 10 dolla ebay obd2-usb cable, Have flashed my ecu twice yesterday. Maybe you can get away with it still on the jdm ecu's

yay, finally got the Ecutek crap off my ecu yesterday. managed to read the standard rom off it and send it too my tuner, he just sent me back the first map he wants me to flash, and using these very detailed instructions given here i successfully flashed my ecu for the first time! Im using the latest version of EcuFlash wih ebay cable and windows 7 on my netbook, sometimes it loads wrong drivers but easily fixed. Thanks to the OP! im sure i will have a lot of questions now for you guys since im on the open source band wagon!
