  1. FYI From Purolator regarding this to another customer:

    Purolator

    Dear Mr. Smith,

Thank you for your inquiry. As promised, we have researched your application question and the details are as follows.

Subaru made a specification change requiring a higher PSI setting for the pressure release valve for certain vehicles beginning with the 2012 model year. As this change was made, Subaru also made the decision to consolidate the higher PSI setting to include earlier applications (1987 – 2011). At Purolator, we are committed to providing our customers with product that fits and performs to the exact specifications as defined by the OE manufacturer, and it is our policy to follow the OE recommendation. For this reason, the 1987 – 2011 Subaru applications were updated in our electronic catalog to specify the L14615 instead of the L14612. Both filters are identical with the exception of the PSI rating of the pressure release valve.

Interesting considering the 08 service manual specified the so-called new higher bypass pressure 3+ years before it existed...

  2. I love living here and I even have respect for the emissions requirements here and believe they are needed. I'm not a fan of how they are implemented.

This is a bit of a game changer for me. Boost for the Miata has gone from "that'd be cool if I could do it" to "I think I'm going to have to try to make this happen!"

  3. Finally test drove the car after replacing the master cylinder on Saturday... The drive to work is a great time to test out a fairly important part repair isn't it? :spin:

Seem to be working just fine. Clutch engagement point is a little different, but that figures as who knows if the old one was leaking for a long time or not.

  4. Yep replaced the master cylinder this morning and bled out the system again. Started the car, pushed in the clutch, put it in gear, and sat there for 3+ minutes like that. It held pressure and never tried to inch forward as it did before. Then changed the oil, mounted the under tray and buttoned it up. Didn't get a chance to test drive it as my dad and I hung the TV on the wall and put the rear surround speakers in the ceiling.
  5. Before I came in and posted I bled the system just to make sure it wasn't an air bubble. Based on the symptoms, and no external leaks I think it's the clutch master cylinder. I ordered a new one from Amazon for $28 and it should be here on Friday. Hope to have it installed and fixed on Friday evening or Saturday morning. Master is a bit of a pain to get out of the firewall.
