  1. I really hope Subaru does not repeat their mistake with tranny and engine tuning issues on B9 that lead to 3.6 appearance and 5EAT design changes with Ascent. Our B9 drives fine but certainly has "a character" that took some getting used to. 2005 Toyota Sienna that we used for few years along with Beca had similar 6 cyl and 5EAT and was much more predictable when it was coming to downshifts and upshifts.
  2. I am going to wait couple of years after Ascent comes out and let Subaru sort things out. too many changes in known engine/tranny combo with Ascent. I did the head gaskets on our 07 Tribeca last year @ 150K. Should be good for few more years.
  3. DI turbo charged engine. I plan on getting Ascent for wife and taking her 07 B9 as my daily. LGT wagon will become weekend/fun day car.
  4. Got it, makes sense. Is there any link I can read that describes process of converting N7 2013 from plain vanilla stock to unit ready to go in the dash? Instead of asking million questions here... Also, how to handle the JDM navi bezel coming without air duct adapter for most sets sold here? did you guys mock something up, or just left central vents non-operational?
  5. to slightly divert this : is nexus 7 tablet the only choice we have for this project? the newest one discussed is from 2013 and is 4 years old at this point. hardware went a long way since then.
  6. Similar story here, my wagon is lowered on Pinks + Bilstein HDs, and I have same ramps as Covert does (привет btw). Front bumper scrapes the ramps. So no lip for me even though I do like how they look.
  7. Glad this helps you, thanks for info on base Imprezas, should be easier to find connectors. Here are the pics, in no particular order, but as you can see mirror connector is exactly the same and I tested plugging it in the actual leveling switch. http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=248521&stc=1&d=1493601386 http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=248522&stc=1&d=1493601386 http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=248523&stc=1&d=1493601386 http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=248524&stc=1&d=1493601386 http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=248525&stc=1&d=1493601386 http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=248526&stc=1&d=1493601386 http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=248527&stc=1&d=1493601386
  8. It is the same EXACT connector actually. USDM GT mirror connector is 8 pin and plugs right in dash HID leveling switch. I will upload pictures later today.
  9. My bad, I jumped to respond without going back in the thread. I believe but not 100 % certain that that connector is same type as door mirror connectors. It's been a while since I checked. but usdm legacies have 8 position connector on GT/OBXT (heated/adjustable and with turn signal), 6 on non turbo (no turn signal ). JDM folding mirrors will have 12 pole connector. (I should check what I posted in folding mirrors thread). If I get some time today I will try to verify what I just said, should have extra mirror and switch laying around.
  10. I thought it was sumimoto and it is sealed connector. I spent a lot of time trying to identify main connector and zeroed in on Sumimoto. You can download their connector catalog online, but there are many different series of connectors, hard to find exact match based on pictures. But main problem is that even if part number is known getting it is whole other story. some are available on alibaba from China, but most are bulk quantities, same as from single us source. Jim from Eastern beaver was most helpful but he doesn't have these connectors either. My JDM hids came with connectors so I am all set. I believe our 07 Tribeca has same connector for headlights. try some junk yards in your area.
  11. Hope it comes out the way you want! Legacy Wagons look great in white. Couple fo pics I have from this site, have few more of 5th gen Legacy Wagon that I need to find. http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=246645&stc=1&d=1490322887 http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=246646&stc=1&d=1490322887
  12. You're welcome, this site helped me a lot, returning favors were I can. Just keep in mind this kit is for 2010+ NA, not for 2005-2009.... I will look at Aisin kit when it will be time to do timing belt on my LGT. at 199K now...
  13. Here is my walk-through for BUI repair, it covers both FETs for dom lights and stereo illumination: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/diy-05-bl-bp-stereo-heat-switches-mirror-switch-illumination-177954.html
  14. Oh now I understand why 10 OB's clutch felt different from 05. Just put new clutch and TOB on it but this may be worth doing once it gets warm.... Thanks for the tip!
  15. That looks like cover on Tribeca, on my 05 it is just a cut-out. I'll look how much is the 08 piece though, might be interesting option. Nothing ever fell through the cut-out from the glove box, so should not be a problem.
  16. that's too much work to have the cabin air filter replaced, your dash appears to not been modified, likely your is very early 05. Mine has cut out that allows the filter cradle to be removed and put back, its not an ideal angle but workable, I now can do the whole filter replacement in 15 minutes or so. iirc there was a conversion kit that one could get at the dealer. Or I can snap you some pics where the cutout is on mine, by the look of it it was definetily NOT done at the factory...
  17. Water pump taken of the engine. It does look the same or very similar, even though markings are different: Back of old OEM water pump: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245327&d=1487733198 front view : http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245328&d=1487733198 Another one: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245329&d=1487733198 And side view, marked as YAMADA, also made in Japan: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245330&d=1487733198 Otherwise looks like Aisin one quiality wise. Since I had bought new OEM pump from Subaru to be safe, I compared OEM one to Aisin as well. OEM Water Pump box with part number on it: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245331&d=1487733198 Back of OEM water pump: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245332&d=1487733198 I wasn't impressed with it. I understand its OEM, and it may have spent more time in the box then Aisin one, but still Aisin looked better to me. Here is front view of Aisin vs new OEM pump: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245333&d=1487733198 Aisin looked better made to me, so I ended up installing Aisin and boxing the OEM one. I spun both by hand and feel is exactly the same, so I am sure OEM would be just as good. Its been about 2 weeks now, car is parked outside in the cold, running great this far with zero issues or knocking/noise from any timing components or water pump. Hope this helps.
  18. Moving on, other parts in the box after pulleys and timing belt are out: Water pump gasket at the bottom of the box. Let's see if it got dinged like the one in gates kit: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245320&d=1487732039 No, looks clean, no marks on it. I think having a thick piece of carton as backing helped, this is nice little detail: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245321&d=1487732039 Nice service label, thank you Aisin: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245322&d=1487732039 Miscelaneous gaskets - thermostat gasket and side seal for water pump body: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245323&d=1487732039 Now water pump, front view, does say JAPAN on the body: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245324&d=1487732039 Under another angle, says AISIN: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245325&d=1487732039 And the back of Aisin water pump, looks clean and well made: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245326&d=1487732039 Overall looks very good!
  19. Continuing with other parts in the box. First box with some pulley, says "made in Japan", made by NSK: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245311&d=1487730882 Side view of same box, can't figure out what the printing means but here it is just in case: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245312&d=1487730882 Taking the pulley out of the box, clearly made "made in Japan": http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245313&d=1487730882 So first pulley is all good. Looks exactly like OEM part on the engine, and it's made in Japan. Moving on the second pulley. Box, says "Koyo" on face of it: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245314&d=1487730882 Back view says "Made in Japan", but name is "Jtekt" , I am not sure which is trade mark and which one is company's name, but its still saying "Made in Japan" so far so good: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245315&d=1487730882 The pulley out of the box, looking great and marked "Japan". Looks like OEM pulley on the engine: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245316&d=1487730882 Third pulley, also made by NSK and also marked as made in Japan: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245317&d=1487730882 Side view: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245318&d=1487730882 This is the bottom one, marked "made in japan" as well": http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245319&d=1487730882 So pulleys all looked good.
  20. I had to replace timing belt and water pump on two NA Outbacks recently - 05MA and 2010 NA. For 05 I got the Gates kit that worked for many before, but this one came with water pump that was made in China (unexpected). I read some reviews on Amazon for it where people were praising Aisin kits and decided to give it a shot when time came to do 2010. So kit was ordered, and just to be safe I got OEM water pump as well, just in case. Again, this is for 2010 NA 2.5 EJ253 with VVT. Afaik in 2013 EJ went to chain driven timing, so this may apply for 2010-2012. Ordered from Amazon, price at the time (January 2017) was . Here is the box (side vew): http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245302&d=1487728993 The label on the box, NOT stating where individual components were made but stating that kit was assembled in USA: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245303&d=1487728993 Opening the box, instruction in the box, pretty standard stuff: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245304&d=1487728993 Top view of components after instruction sheet removed: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245305&d=1487728993 Component in the box, says "made in Japan", looks like good start: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245306&d=1487728993 Looking at the timing belt, branded Mitsuboshi, iirc that was the OEM that came on my LGT, but I amy be wrong. Anyway, looks good, marked "made in USA", and has timing marks on it. Neat. http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245307&d=1487728993 Grabbed the box with component that is labeled "made in Japan", and its belt tensioner. Pretty important part if you ask me, and I recall that the Gates kit part was not clearly marked on the part itself. Let's see what this one is: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245308&d=1487728993 Good sign, tensioner is classic blue, and says its made in Japan: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245309&d=1487728993 Another angle on the tensioner: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=245310&d=1487728993
  21. Did you change your cabin air filter? Unless you are running recirculation a lot Legacy gets a good air flow, taking the filter is clean.
  22. We got 05LGT and 05OB done recently on separate occasions. They absolutely are pulling the dash. OB came out with no scratches at all, my LGT had one slight mark on inner side of instrument cluster visor. You can't really see it unless you know where it is and get close. I don't see it from the driver's seat because it is blocked by the steering wheel. I decided not to stink about it, I know the dealer for quite some time and they helped me number of times. Life is long, pick your battles and so on - just as described below. There was an interesting issue with my LGT* in regards to this recall. I originally scheduled an appointment over the phone and all 4 of our Subies are in their system, so the tech just asked which one of 2 05's we have I am bringing in. The morning I arrive with it a different guy starts putting it in the computer for the work and then tells me the recall was already done on this car and there is nothing to do. Long story short, their system shows the recall was done on this VIN sometime in spring, different dealer ID and mileage recorded on the car is way off, to the tune of 3 years of my driving. I had to take the car back, opened a case with SOA, and waited until SOA sorted things out. Took them about a week. Then the LGT was scheduled again and went through recall rework. Apparently some other dealer made a mistake and put VIN of my LGT in the system. I caught it pretty much by a chance. But this makes me extremely worried about buying any used car that went through similar recall - based on my experience even if the dealer database is showing that the recall was performed it actually may not be entirely correct.
  23. I recently put JDM folding mirrors on 05 Outback Limited 2.5i. The OB had heated mirrors but no turn signals, and the 2.5i (non-turbo) mirrors are smaller then LGT/OBXT mirrors, so those were two main reasons - get larger mirrors and get turn signals on them as well. Used JDM mirrors are even cheaper at this point than USDM LGT/OBXT mirrors. As a bonus this also brings convex mirror for driver side - my 05 LGT and wife's 07 SB9T were both converted to convex driver side long time ago with JDM parts. I read through all the posts in this thread but the exact info on which signal goes on which pin on JDM connector was hard to figure out. I used my bench power supply to try some signals and got the up/down and left/right motors mapped but everything else was taking too much time to figure out plus I didn't want to risk ruining either JDM mirrors or my equipment. I looked for wiring diagrams for JDM cars but those are like unicorns - they don't exist in this universe. But I was able to find that USDM 2012 Tribeca and newer do have folding mirrors option. So I found 2012 USDM Tribeca FSM with wiring diagram for Tribeca's folding mirrors. Good news is that USDM 2012 Tirbeca folding mirrors wiring matches JDM LGT folding mirrors pin to pin, and even wire colors are the same except for couple wires. My JDM mirrors came with door connectors as well, so I had pigtails to solder my new wires to. I didn't want to cut/splice factory wiring or connectors on OB, nor cut JDM mirror connectors so I did the following: - ordered some ready-made connectors on Amazon for DIY kits , female to female, ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GSE2S98/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ); - used JDM mirror connectors and the female connectors I bought at Amazon to create an adapter harness to plug JDM mirrors into USDM door connector (no turn signal on it); - made 2 4 wire harnesses to run for each door - 2 wires for turn signal, 2 wires for folding signal; - made a 2 wire harness to run folding signals from left side to right side. The female connectors from amazon cable were soldered to JDM pigtails. The size on female connectors allows them to be plugged directly into USDM door connector after USDM mirror is unplugged. I got lazy at the end and soldered the extra 4 wires for turn signal and folding directly to JDM pigtails even though I wanted to keep them connectorized originally. Since 2.5i didn't have turn signals in mirrors I checked the wiring diagram for USDM Legacy/Outback and found that turn signals are present on the connectors on footwells where the door harness plugs in. So I cut the 2 of 4 wire harness I made short, found some JDM connector pins and hooked up turn signals into empty slots in OEM connector in footwells. I am attaching both screenshot and PDF of Tribeca mirrors wiring, it shows both folding and non-folding options. http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=241884&stc=1&d=1481163452 http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=241886&stc=1&d=1481163452 LINK TO PDF of 2012 USDM Tribeca mirror wiring Also pics of JDM connectors that I turned into convertion harness. JDM Mirror (not door) connector: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=241887&stc=1&d=1481164564 2.5i vs GT mirrors: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=241888&stc=1&d=1481164564 JDM connector reworked into adapter harness: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=241889&stc=1&d=1481164564 JDM mapped into USDM via harness made, note 4 wires for turn/folding still not soldered...: http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=241890&stc=1&d=1481164564 ALSO, found that USDM switch has the wiring for folding switch already, but USDM gets a filler cap instead of actual button with contacts... : http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=241891&stc=1&d=1481164564 Hope this helps. 2012TribecaMirrorSystem.pdf
