  1. I never posted this because I was pretty disgusted after I raced that day. I get terrible heat soak, pulled timing, and power loss around 109mph every single run... so I can run great 1/8' times/traps but my 1/4' times don't look as good as they should. Still, I like how I'm running quicker than a lot of guys running FMIC's with built engines at low altitudes. I've got E85 on my side to help combat 5860' track altitude. My mods are simple, stock block, stock headers, stock location TMIC and thing screams to 1/8 mile (sub 8.0 at 89mph is moving!) but chokes up top. Heatsoak! Think it would have 12.2x @ 113-114mph if I didn't lose power every run with 100' to go. Also, my setup shows that 20g's don't have anything over the bolt-on BNR68 up top where it counts on the track. 2. ^ Glad to hear he is still doing good work cheaply!
  3. Mostly correct. FBKC does not increment knock sum. Knock sum is incremented by the knock sensor detecting sounds that either are knock or similar to knock. One consequence of incrementing knock sum is FBKC, which will immediately retard timing (by 2 degrees in stock tune). Then that retard amount will decay to zero and/or get decremented again in the event of another knock signal.
  4. ^^ Thanks Steve. I'll check that. But it works fine now. I did notice the display flickering once or twice in recent months... I'm wondering if I've got a ground coming looose.
  5. What the hell. This just happened to me last week. Started the car and no power to radio or HVAC. Drove 10 minutes to gym and stayed off the whole time. Came back out from gym and it worked as usual and has now since for a week. Car has 77k miles and I've had it 4 years and this is the first time it has happened. I'll go back and read over this thread for resolution. EDIT: Bizarre how so many have happened in Colorado - every other complaint of this is a CO guy.
  6. ^^ Thanks Bosco. I've got a little more info in this 4/20 Bandimere thread if you or anyone is interested. Although I'm happy I beat my previous best e.t., I still feel like my simple setup has more in it.
  7. Bandimere Speedway, 5860' elevation, DA today superb (for this track) 6085ft. Despite the great 45-50F track conditions, I only hit 1 of my 3 goals today. I left very frustrated after 5 runs. I encountered the same problem I did last time I went drag racing... the car hits a wall at 109-110mph and loses power. Big time. I kept forgetting to log but I did get one good log and it is very interesting. I think the problem might be too much timing around 5800-6000rpms and/or possible TMIC heatsoak. 2nd and 3rd gear don't complain but 4th gear just chokes up. I get to 5800rpms in 4th at around 11.5-11.6 seconds at around 110mph and just stay there the whole last second... briefly hitting 112mph and 5900rpms kind of coasting the last 50-100'. Real bummer. Think it would be hitting 113's all day if I could get ever get across the finish without limping. And my good run would have been a 12.3x for sure, maybe 12.2x. Should coulda woulda. Oh well. Pretty obvious though... only gained 22mph on the back half! Last time I went drag racing in October in similar conditions I was gaining 25mph in the back half (and I was hitting that "wall" then too, actually). http://beeez.com/lgt/1243at111.jpg Anyhow, I got a new best 60' and new best e.t. but my traps sucked. And I was very inconsistent. This was my last day at the dragstrip. I'm done. At least for this year. Best run was my second run... 12.43 @ 111.1mph on a 1.780 60', but I lost power.. So, instead, let's talk about my 1/8 mile e.t. and trap... 7.98 @ 89.1mph rocks! Sub 8-seconds. Cool. Not bad for track elevation of 5860' and for having 3 degrees of timing pulled FLKC from my first run. 1st run: 13.07 @ 112.03 mph - This was my first run with my new tires and I wasn't sure how my launch was going to be. Ran 38f/42r like I usually do. Apparently I was the first AWD car to run today because they had sprayed down the ENTIRE staging area with water. (Usually you can just go around to keep the tires dry). Well, I had to go through it. I got a bad 2.09 60' thanks to a pretty impressive AWD smokey burnout that left me spinning instead of moving. I've never seen so much smoke in my rear view mirror and think I smoked 'em well into 2nd gear. I check my LV prior to this run and all FLKC was zero, as usual. About 100' before the finish, I felt the car lose power and a little popping/rumbling in the exhaust. I pulled a LV after the run and saw -3.03 in a single cell (2.6-3.2g/rev by 5400-6200rpms). I was very frustrated and I've seen this before, but only at the dragstrip around 110mph. I was tempted to clear the ecu because I really didn't want to race with 3 degrees less timing in my peak powerband, but figured I'd better let it go so I don't blow the motor the next time I hit 110mph. If anyone cares, I ran this through the dragtimes.com DA calculator and converter and it "corrects" to 12.02 @ 114.82mph. Also, my previous best was 12.49@112mph in 89F temps (DA 10,108) which "corrects" to a little better time. FYI, mods are in my sig. Original stock block, stock location turbo/TMIC. Here is a log snippet from a launch (not my good launch, but an average one). Note the wheel spin in first gear - tires moving at 60mph 1 second after the start. I like a lot of wheel spin to ease the pain on my drivetrain, but this launch probably had a little too much. http://beeez.com/lgt/wheelspin2.jpg
  8. Huh car show 5 minutes from home? Didn't even know about it. Not sure. Haha. Speaking of 5 minutes from home, I drive by Sonic on north Federal on the way home from work.. and last night (Friday) I worked until 9. Looked like the scene was getting into summer form, although I've seen it more packed. It took a LOT of restraint for me NOT to go hard as a Supra lined up next to me at pole position at a light where the speed limit is 55mph.
  9. As one who previously had an ecutek tune, I feel your pain. "Ecutek - The Flashed and The Furious"
  10. Well that makes 2 Red Rocks meets in a row that got run out... whoever organizes these gets a big fail. I'm not certain now whether I'll be at Bandimere 4/20 or not. I'm getting the compression checked this week. If okay, I'll just get my very old PCV valve replaced and some new plugs and I'll be running hard at Bandi. If the loss of my oil is due to ringlands and not a stuck open PCV well then I'll be scheming a new build.
  11. Helluva showing, guys! Looks great... impressed how many clean tail-less trunks there are. Who has that red one? Nice. Cool to have the less common colors like silver and black.
  12. Both cars? I saw you in your truck.. what else do you have? Take some pics guys. I'll be working, could not get out of it. I'll probably be at Bandimere on 4/20 for the a.m. test n' tune for whoever else is going that DAY (not night).
  13. ^^ Very cool. Still haven't really checked one of them out.
  14. Still not sure if I can make it but will definitely meet up at the 53rd/Wads location if I do...gotta admit that's pretty convenient for me. Seems like 3-4 years ago most the local LGT guys were way down south b/w C470 and Castle Rock... nice that our demographics are a lot more centralized now.
  15. More Spec B's than un-Limited's? Hmmm.. which is really more rare?
  16. ^^ That looks like a very nice car indeed. But ecutek and 5EAT though?
  17. ^^ Was driving the wife's stock Accord. My daughter thought they were going to take me away.. she was really worried. Now she reminds me every time we are in the car not to go fast. I might try to trade shifts, depending on how easy of a schedule swap I can get.
  18. Damn well count me out then. Actually, I'm not going due to work that day... it's my weekend. I got pulled over on I-70 last weekend... 81mph in a 65. Very lucky to just get a warning.
  19. Stock heat shield in use here. No cutting required. (Why would there be - it is a reincarnated VF40.) Also running aftermarket actuator here FWIW.
  20. That was my #1 thought. What good alternatives do we have (not that I wouldn't go to SUBA, just wondering)?
  21. ^^ No mine is running well, but it is eating more oil than before. I think it is just from the change in turbos. I didn't use much with the VF's I had but the BNR seems to like to use oil.
  22. Who would you guys use locally (Denver-Boulder area) for an engine rebuild?
  23. ^^ I don't think the return line is under high pressure at all. The supply line isn't much wider than a toothpick and I think the fat return line functions like a drain. I think as long as you got the return line over the oil outlet on the turbo and have the clip reasonably snug you'll be fine.
  24. ^^ Tell Terry I sent you! You'll be the first from lgt.com to see him. Cool guy, fun to talk to while he works. Fun to get before and after pics of his work.. I forgot this time. Spent the afternoon with Harvey of BoostCreep and Eric of Torqued Performance at Harvey's shop. Both just great guys who really know their stuff. If I didn't like tuning so much myself these guys are the only ones that I would trust. BTW, missed seeing you their, Mike (of 5250 Performance).. hope your arm gets better fast!
