The bolt patterns look the same to me?

After more looking at pics, you will probably have to do a MBC and Booster swap to work on our car. I might give it a whirl if I can find one cheap enough. My family will be gone for an entire weekend so that gives me plenty of time to do the swap:)
-
Depends what type of LSD. 2004-2006 STI R180 are clutch and need oil with friction modifiers (i.e. NOT Extra-S). 2007+ are Torsen and can use anything, doesn't matter.
Thanks Unclemat....I think I have everything now. Going to install it next weekend. Wish me luck!

What are you guys using as far as fluid in the R180 rear end? My dealer said there is no need for the LSD Oil and to use Special S fluid. Thoughts? I finally have everything for my swap. Just need to find time to put it in.
anyone?

Also, why hasnt this been Stickied?!?!?!?!?!?! I mean we have a "Email Spec Clutch To make a FW" stickied even though at is well known now that the 06 wrx fw works. This thread has everythikng you need to do a 6mt swap. just doesnt make much sense to me.

I got one in the mail as well. Let me know if you get it working. You dont want the MBC tilting sideways:)

Just a FYI - the part number for 6Speed Spec B Axles are 28421AG03B
-
No doubt......BUT, You can even break a 2618 piston if there is enough detonation.
What about the Swain heat coatings, has anyone here tried that service?
I completely agree. My point was that the forged pistons can take more abuse than the stock cast pistons.
I accidentally knocked off one of my EWG lines once and hit 30psi of boost. Got a cel with 3 cylinders with knock detected. Did a compression test and everything was fine. If that was the stock pistons, they would have been toast.
-
How do you know they had seen very little detonation?
The cast pistons were smooth on top and looked fine until you got to the ringland area. The forged pistons had what looked like marks that I assumed was caused by detonation. The ringlands on those were still intact and in perfect condition other than the marks on top.
-
Detonation will kill any piston regardless of it's composition.
True but I have seen factory cast pistons crack the ringlands with very little detonation where forged pistons can take smaller dets without any failure.
-
Maybe, but are you going to get the circular flow of current like you will with the HKS? These are all very important points to consider You shouldn't put a price on the well being of your car.
That is funny...I got a bridge for sale, interested?
-
Has anyone tried using the Spec B inner half shaft mated to the rest of a LGT rear axle? It seems like it should work.
-
Anyone know the part numbers for the 07+ Spec B rear axle assembly?
-
Well I guess I will have to bite the bullet and get the driveshafts fromt he dealer...especially since I got the tranny for so cheap:)
-
Just curious for all that have done this swap with a R180 rear end. Where did you guys pick up your SPec B axles from?
-
If you don't plan on doing any modifications to the car, the 3.0 will probably better suit you and be more reliable. The GT is a fun car and you can make some serious power out of it, but it does have a lot more problems than the 3.0.
Glad to hear you are doing good and that you were not hurt in your accident. Let me know if you do get a Legacy and need any help with it:) I kind of know my way around them now:)
-
SVXdc, you need to get into a Legacy GT:)
I hope all is well with you:)
-
ooh okay. i haven't really paid much attention to this forum lately
but i think i've come to the conclusion i'm just gonna rebuild my trans, get a new front diff and replace whatever is necessary internally.
It would still probably be cheaper to just buy a 07 STi tranny new.
-
The 07 STi tranny is cheaper than the 06 for some strange reason.
Read the first post and call any of the Subaru Vendors on here and I am sure they can give you a price and part numbers
-
I am purchasing a 05 STi 6MT. It says I can use the stock rear end with Legacy axles if I re-gear the rear. How do I do this with the R160 stock LGT rear end?
Thanks

There really isn't a gasket between the IM and TGV housing. There are 4 rubber o-rings one on each port of the IM. What makes you think it is leaky? I haven't heard one person complain about a leak there. They are re-usable along with the gasket that goes between the block and the TGV.
