If it makes you feel better I have spotted you and you spotted me on 287. I just never said anything. Chaulk it up to just being lazy.
I see a lot of Legacy's but don't post up the sightings in this thread.
Now I can rest in peace...thanks

This should be the official New Jersey spotted thread, hehe. Cmon CT represent!
Don't think so..no one's ever seen my effin car!

I have actually made a pair of gaskets like this out of 1/8" aluminum. For one reason or another I haven't tried them yet but I will soon. As I've posted I'm using my wire Hogzaust Mod and it is working well for me (and the one the wife prefers). When I try these thicker aluminum 'gaskets' I am anticipating some wifely comments and have to be prepared for going back to the wires. I won't know until I try them, however, and they are just sitting there calling me *****whipped. That kind of taunting can only be tolerated for just so long .
But HALF INCH!? May as well throw the mufflers away and exit the pipes to the side......... SAY, that sounds like a ....... nah, I'd have to find somewhere else to sleep again .
Won't you end up with corrosion due to dissimilar metals with aluminum? Maybe stainless is the key?

Update - A week later and no signs of blowing out the gaskets. The steel ring is keeping them solid. This mod sounds very similar to clips I've heard of the Borla exhaust. Keep in mind, I tried the washer route twice and pulled it twice because of the increase in noise level after a day or two. No exhaust stink and no carbon build up on the body pan. It may be a little quiet for some at idle, but I think it has just the right added rasp to tell you there is something going on down there. Under wot, it sounds like a porsche.
Oh, and the wife hasn't said a word. Driving at low throttle, there is little difference in sound.

The stainless plate could be a good idea. You could vary the thickness to produce your desired sound.
-
^^That's why I cut it the way I did. Opened it up the full width of the inside diameter. Hopefully they won't, but I can always replace them if they do.

The Hog evolves...
Didn't see where anyone actually performed the mod this way, but I love the sound now. Rather than removing the gasket all together, I may a surgical incision (more like cut it with a pair of Wiss snips) in the factory gaskets as shouwn below. Cut a straight line at the widest part of the inside of the gasket. This method will help to keep the exhaust flowing directly to the rear and eliminate any possibility of blowing out more of the gasket. The sound is better than the original washer mod (IMO). It sounds more like a performance exhaust thatn a hole in the muffler.

Spotted Nachowang picking up my wheels!

Saw a black debadged and lowered LGT on 87/287 near the crapandpee bridge around 4:00 today

Damn I really like the Kazera KZ-B's and they are very inexpensive too! This wagon looks dead sexy with them...
Are they 17's or 18's?

< the OBP caboose in an chance brief 3-gt parade on rt 1N @ noon today: silver gt leading a (debadged?) GRP, then me, all in a row -- crazy rare occasion in my area -- i know at least one of u gotta be here.
route 1 where and when

looked like a stock abp lgt getting on the NJTPK at exit 11 at about 6:40 this morning. You took car and truck...I took car only. ARE YOU HERE!?!?!

we'll try it again...grp gt on 9 south near the rte 35 split.

^^+10! Sounded great at first, but then not so great
-
they do?

saw a silver LGT with spec B wheels on 440, just short of the VNB this morning at around 7:00. Unless of course the spec B's have GT badges....
Big Edit...saw a silver spec B...

ok, this mother effer has gotten signifcantly louder in thelast week but I can't figure out why? Has anyone simply tried cutting the gasket at the bottom. In other words, cut between the bolt reinforcements of the gasket at the bottom only?

I think the ears have a definite impact on the butt-dyno!
I'm very with ya on the ears thing. I meant more like my 5EAT has nothing before turbo...when you rev it, there is this "running too rich" sound like it is clearing out from running too rich once it gets to higher rpm. It really feels better now, but it may be the cooler weather that has affected it
-
Got sound clips but can't figure out how to post them. Today it sounded even better...not sure why? It even seemed to have more low end power before the turbo kicks in...is this possible?
-
Got some strange looks at first, not like WTF, but is there something different? After 20 minutes on the ride home, I got the...OK, what did you do?. I'm gonna keep it for a while...it's starting to sound louder though.
-
took another shot at it...went stage I.V last time but went Stage .V this time. Seems to sound pretty good overall and by putting the washer in the bottom hole it seems to direct exhaust down from the body. The real test is to not say anything to the bride and see if she notices...film at 11.
-
OK, Hogs...I've done the Hogzaust, then reversed it. IMO, it doesn't work as well with the 5EAT because there is no reving to get that sweet sound while standing still (unless you pop it in to neutral). The other problem I had with it was that on initial take off, there wasn't the cool rumbling sound, but more like the car is running on 3 cylinders. Ya gotta give me something different for te autos...they really don't sound good with Hogzaust under 1300 rpms.
No true designer will leave a project half done...

Oh man, you are so missing the boat. My cut gasket sounds so much better (IMO) than the washers and I've tried stg 1, 1.5 and 2.
It's quieter and sounds almost exactly like my buddy's Borla. I'm just diggin the cleaner sound.
