Bbc84
Finished it yesterday with help of 2 of my friends, it was suppose to be Clearing orange reflector piece, blackhousing housing, and HID kit install for low beams and fogs. Took apart headlights only to find the amber turn signal pice on the 08' is not removeable, it appears to be melted/glued together. So we just painted the housings, we were lazy so we masked off turn signal area so itll still reflect brightly, and we didnt mask the projector surrounds, it was primered and then painted with black metalic flake paint. HIDs were installed and look awesome, just no HID fogs since i ordered H3's and 08's uses 9006 bulbs for fogs now. Will post pics after i upload from camera. I saw a family who owned three 08's working on that same project last week in Rao's neighborhood. But, I don't believe they took pictures or had anyone from Guiness there to document the transformation. Its now a race between the two parties to see who can fill out the proper paperwork and truely claim to be the FIRST! ignore him, he'll go away. Bbc84
#1 out of all the pics, this one had the least amt of glare/reflection so heres the 1 pic to enter me into the Guiness Book of record as the 1st 08' with blackhoused headlights. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v97/Bbc84/Legacy%20GT/P1060755.jpg

BoostedinBaltimore
what type of hid setup did you use. I'm interested in switching mine over but don't feel like melting my brand new headlights.

08Flo Rida
I have an 08' and I cleared the amber out of my corners, however i didn't paint it black and I think that is my plan for tomorrow. I have a swp and I really like how the black head lights look. Did you not like how the headlights look without the piece that is attached to the amber reflector? axis008
How did you remove it? He said the amber reflector seemed to be glued/melted on. -ben

I wanted to remove just the amber reflector, but keep the rest of the clear peice.

aaronlee0821
i did mine last week. i just got too lazy to post up pics.. i cleared mine out too.. its not too hard to remove the amber at all. you have to take the clear corner assembly all out. once you remove it, take off that aluminum clip. then the amber part comes off with just a slight bit of force. the amber reflector is held on by glue on the top and bottom, but should come right off pretty easily, and you get to keep that clear corner assembly, just without the amber. here's my pics, although, i didnt black it out, since it wouldn't look right on my car color.. so i kept it chrome and just cleared out the lamps. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2156/1533261402_8cc38e3f4c_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2139/1533267718_db4af7fef0_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2322/1532462221_8772532a1a_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2098/1532928797_e4dcc45a57_o.jpg
PhilT
Clearing the amber reflector looks nice but is a stupid thing to do... I like the blacked out housings, but I would have left more chrome around the projector lens itself, kinda like how the 05's are. I do not like the HID conversion. I am really liking the new front end on the GT's.. if I had a permanent job I would consider trading up I guess that makes me stoopid then Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
dmiller5
One thing with removing the amber part.. i believe the jdm/edm versions have a clear version of the amber piece. When you remove it on our (if i remember correctly) you will be able to see inside the area and have a direct view of the inner assembly. Could be unattractive. Zed 2.0
Unattractive or not, North American regulations call for an amber reflector up front. While I agree that having clear corners does in fact look nice on some colors, I'd rather have the safety of the reflector. You do realize that a yellow/orange turn signal bulb will still blink the proper color, right? I don't see what "safety" having a colored piece of plastic up there adds. wrx2blackGT
Are those pics taken with a clear flasher bulb too? When I cleared my 05 I had to get a clear bulb, are the 08's the same? I need to do this... looks great

I need to do this... looks great The solution is to get a yellow/orange flasher bulb, buy a can of silver spray paint and mist a very fine layer of paint over the bulb. Result is a bulb that still blinks orange, still blinks bright but blends into the headlight housing.
