Turkeylord
Apparently I need a helmet to run drags this summer, any suggestions? eBay? I found this one for $170 which isn't too bad: http://hjchelmets.com/v2kx2/prds_fg17.htm
StoplightAssassin
Apparently I need a helmet to run drags this summer, any suggestions? eBay? I found this one for $170 which isn't too bad: http://hjchelmets.com/v2kx2/prds_fg17.htm I would recommend finding a shop nearby that has helmets you can try on. The dragstrip you go to probably has a speedshop with helmets. That's where I got mine. Make sure you check with what the helmet ratings need to be for your track. At the end of the track you'll be doing 100+. An accident at that speed will be very dangerous. Hell, I smashed my helmeted head doing an autox at 25mph. Personally, I'd be looking only at helmets rated SA2010. A SA2010 helmet should also be good for any track days you'd be doing until 2020. Check out the helmets on http://www.saferacer.com. I get a discount there. PM if you want to buy one.
Turkeylord
Thanks SA. I think I may have lucked out. I just went and checked my motorcycle helmet (HJC FS-3), and apparently it's SA2005 which meets the requirement at the track I race at. It's not full-face, but I think it'll do nicely. I've read where Delphi has done testing with open and full face helmets in regards to airbag deployment. Testing showed a full face helmet posed no greater threat than an open face helmet. However, testing also showed that if the visor was only partially closed, the airbag could catch it and very forcefully try to rip the helmet off. Similar results were produced with an open face helmet with a sunshade. So really it's up to us to make sure the equipment is being used properly. Did you mean to say closed faced had no greater safety feature with airbag deployment? I rather have a full face on with an airbag, just my 2 cents. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. They're both the same considering the visor is down. I also run a full face and bag.
