New to the legacy, and new to the forum! Getting a 93 legacy wagon 25th anniversary

Recommended Posts

Hey what's up guys I will soon be getting my hands on a 93 subaru legacy wagon non turbo 25th anniversary in green and with a couple rust spots, the interior is pretty straight and the engine bay is clean, the only issue is that the rear wheels are locked up. I'm buying this wagon for 600 bucks because im in dying need of a daily since I got rid of my jzs147 (i almost cried!) But don't worry I won't ask you guys any dumb questions, and i'm not a ricer either lol just thought I should say that right off the bat. What do you guys think could be causing the rear wheels to get locked up? The owner said he was on the highway when they locked up, and before that he could hear weird sound coming from the rear only while coasting and everytime he would hit the gas the sound would go away. Also I noticed that the diff is leaking fluid from the axle seals. So I didn't directly want to jump into the differential being locked, but i'm gonna stay in between really shot bearings or a stuck hand brake. I went there today to try and take a look but I couldn't get the rotor off the hub for anything. Would you guys have any knowledge of what it could be? If so thanks in advance and I will post pictures as soon as I get it to my house which will more than likely be this weekend

Hello;

Get to know your local Pull and Pay or junkyard! Could be the rotor is rusted on. PB Blaster and a large brass hammer would be my plan of attack. Here in Denver, the auto recyler's are full of these! You should be able to address this for less than a hundred bucks, Steven.

Often there are threaded bolt holes in the rotor. You take a couple bolts and thread them in the holes and tighten them and the rotor pops right off. The bolts that hold your radiator on are the right size. Hopefully it's not your rear diff, but sounds like it could be. Welcome to the site.

Hello guys thanks for the replies, i ended up buying it and having it towed to my house, and with money left over from my carbuying budget it's being taken to a repair shop to get the whole rear end replaced with the one from a legacy with 90k miles. I feel like a little kid every day I go out to the car and turn it on and explore it lol.

interior is pretty straight besides the fact of a broken ac vent and a broken realease pin for dropping the rear pass side seat, i would have done it myself if i wasn't in dying need of a car lol i have done lots of mechanic work before but this was something that i didn't want to jump into, at least not yet (not enough confidence) it won't be long until the mod bug bites me and i end up buying coilovers and rims and the whole 9 yards, for now i just started with an indash and 6 1/2 inch 2 way jvc's in the doors and strut towers. this car is definetely like legos it's so awesome :spin:

that looks just like the one I just picked up, what is the difference between the standard 93 legacy wagon and the 25th anniversary model?

You know, I really don't know. This is the first 93 legacy wagon I've seen in my life, the only thing it has is cruise and power locks and windows. Maybe it was the color or something because I've been wondering the same thing

Hey guys I'm having some issues with this car.. this past weekend I drove from fort lauderdale to orlando and naples and blah blah blah and two things really bothered me. The cruise control wouldn't work and the car would vibrate a lot everytime I hit 80mph.

As for the cruise, I pushed the cruise button and light would turn on and I would hear a relay click by the glove compartment. But when I moved the cruise control stalk on the steering wheel nothing would happen (yes I pushed it down to set the cruise speed but it wouldn't do it) is there anything that I should be looking for? Broken connections maybe? Also where is the cc pump located? I'm going to have to find some time to do some major troubleshooting

Hello;

Check the wheels for runout and balance. Can you feel the vibration in the steering wheel? The cruise control is vacuum operated with a cable control to the throttle body. Check the actuator and connections with a vacuum pump, Steven.

It pretty much feels as if the whole car is shaking, and yeah I can feel it through the steering wheel, no disposable income or time yet so I can't even look into this :-(

hey guys haven't posted anything on this thread for a while, since my last post I have acquired something that looks like an oem wing (my hatch had the 4 holes on it above the third brake light) and put it on immediately, also a pair of hella supertones made in germany which i was told was a nice score! and also planning out a budget to do a HUGE service on it, I plan on getting the rebuiltdual pot rebuilt calipers in the front and new pads and rotors and also fluid change and timing belt and all the tlc you can think of. by the way, I'm debating on the grille options, i tried removing mine (i hate it, specially that chrome stripe makes me hate it more) and the last bottom right clip by the driver side headlight was unreachable so i couldn't take it off without breaking it, so i decided not to anyways. but i don't know whether i should leave it without a grille, modify mine, or get a tw one, i found one for 40 bucks, also i would like to request some pictures of the front of the car without a grille if you have any! please and thanks in advance! i'll post a pic of the wing soon.

it looks unattractive in my opinion, and it looks a little ugly to be oem, i took it off a gold 93 wagon. only to cover up those holes on the hatch lol what do you guys think?

Looks the same as the one on my 91, which is OEM as far as I know. I don't really have strong feelings for it one way or another.

I've noticed that it looks pretty decent from far away, but when you see it up close it's just like ehhhhh :confused:

That's dual port, there are header options for it, all 2.2 are dual port until 96 usdm...

And is it true that ej25 headers will fit as long as they're dual port?

If your thinking about headers you should be able to fit the headers from an impreza 2.5 rs. There are a couple people that have them on they're second gen 2.2's. I think there may even Brit a sticky on it at the top of this forum.

Though talk about the borla headers for the 2.5 are prone to cracking and they are stupid expensive at like $350...guys on the second gen forum say the borla knockoffs on ebay are better and about 30% cheaper than borla.

I think I'm gonna try the ebay knock offs after I piece an exhaust system together

Cruise control still won't work and this is now the second cc pump I've put on, ahhhhh!

And now the only issue is the fact that the two connectors under the dash are connected but the rad fans keep turning on and off intermitentlly together with some whirring sound under the hood when the key is on with engine off, if I unplug the green connectors then the check engine light just flashes even with the key on and engine off and even if the engine is running, is the intermittent clicking on and off of the radiator fan something bad? I'm pretty sure it turns on normally any other time
