GEE-OTTO
Wait so the ECU can be tuned? Model year dependent! If you want to use a EJ251 bottom end EJ253 top end and ECU that could be defined and supported by the OpenSource Tuning community. Check: For what ever ECU you have in mind to run your setup and see if it is supported http://www.romraider.com/
ecoflame
I've read that 2003's can't be tuned, and their website seems to back that up. So if I was to want to tune my car I'd have to swap ECU's correct?

hardcoresteve
Well i posted this like 5 years ago originally and gave up on the build after hitting a telephone pole in the snow. Some jerk cut me off at a light. Ive since then been building a 2010 wrx. Its a budget build but so far making 305 hp, 311 ft lbs.

Wow I'm sorry... man, I'm really trying to figure out if keeping this car an making it what I want is gonna be possible, affordable-ish, and reliable. hardcoresteve
As long as you dont mind the usual quirks, usual rust spots, head gaskets, inevitable rod knock etc., the car is a tank.( I drove home after launching over a 8" curb and shattering a lightpole. ) But its just not worth, at least to me, to try and turn it into a speed machine. They were good cars and very rugged, but if you want to go fast buy a fast car. I could never go back to that life. Always wishing it could be more than what it is. Buy a wrx or a turbo legacy and you wont regret it. Heres my beast:
