RussguyGTL
When I hammer down a very prominent squealing begins at roughly 3000-3200 rpm. If I accelerate moderately into this rpm range, it does not happen but when I put the pedal to the floor, it squeals. I am assuming it is a belt or pulley issue since it happens when I put a sudden acceleration load on the engine and not so much when I gradually accelerate. I will treat the belts and inspect the pulleys but just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue--just about to hit 60k so maybe things are starting to get tired. The reason for this post is the rule out a turbo issue. The turbo hits at 3000 rpm and that is when the squeal starts so figured I'd ask. Hoping its not the turbo--seems early for that to go. Thanks for any help!

Thanks for any help! It could be the belt, but usually you will hear that in the lower RPM range. Perhaps it is the wastegate or something related to the turbo. I would have an experienced subie specific shop in your area check it out (not the dealer) to see if they can detect it, they should be able to diag it pretty quickly Sounds can be difficult to diagnose via the internet. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. gt06unlimited
probably a belt. turbos dont really squeal... they kindof whine and rattle around and you would hear it at idle too. at least ive never heard one squeal. check the tension on the belts and look for dryrot on the ribbed side. if its got a bunch of cracks, no good. replace it. Lazywhisper
Depending on the squeal sound it could be a belt or a vacuum leak. does it feel like you lose any power when the car is under heavy load?
JMLegacy
Serpentine belt? Maybe it's the belt tensioners, some shine bearings that brace the timing belt
Oregon OBXT
Manifold to up pipe gasket can start talking as back pressure increases with a closed waste gate. This failure turns the multiplate gasket into a reed valve. It starts of as a dull kazoo and ends up turning into a high pitch squeal as the gap opens. If it's this, Grimmspeed has a 2x thick gasket. kred
I had the same problem like a few weeks ago. I tightened the serpentine belt and I haven't heard a single squeal since then.
