De-badged badges

Anyone still have the "subaru" badge from the left side of the trunk?

I need to re-badge the left side of my trunk due to a lack of patience on my part. I warped the clearcoat a bit and to the naked eye you can't really see it, but it bugs the CRAP out of me!!

I was also think of putting a "turbo" badge over the mishap instead, what do you guys think about something like that?? Here is an example.

I debadged my Jetta 1.8T and put a Beetle "turbo" badge centered on the trunk below the

license plate. It looked awesome and I got a lot of props for it. I think the beetle "turbo" badge much like the one in the pic you attached, was under $10.00 from the dealership and it lasted longer than the car's transmission did... 2.5 years, 44,000 miles.

I considered that. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/OCDetails/163-6364_IMG.jpg Using a turbo badge off another car just didn't set well with me. I didn't want someone to say "hey, I've got the exact same badge on my Volvo" or something. www.youremblem.com is your friend if you want to get something like that. My next step is to get a 2.5GT set to match the font. I like the font that it is in right now, but for the sake of matching the BOXER font I don't mind changing it.

Wouldn't it be wise to save the badges and stick 'em back on when reselling the car? I know it looks cleaner without--but it could also look like it's had bodywork and you skimped on badges when a normal person looks at buying the car.

Whether or not the car has badges has no bearing on the resale value of the car at all. I've debadged plenty of cars in one way or another and nobody has ever asked where the badges are. You would probably want to hang onto them if you leased the vehicle, but otherwise you aren't going to need them to sell the car.

Thanks for the links OCDetails!! If I wanted to get the bottom half of the trunk repainted(where the boo boo is), how much should I expect to pay? Also, will it match up to the rest of the trunk?

I will take a look and see what different types of badges they offer although I'm kinda leaning towards the turbo badge.

It will likely cost you 2 or 3 hundred bucks to get that area blended back in properly. You are probably just better off covering it with a badge and trying to forget that it is there. You may want to just take it over to a detail shop and see what they say. It may be something that can be fixed without being repainted.

Ahhh.... See, there was your first mistake. You took it to the dealership to get the paint worked on. The hacks at the dealership who call themselves detailers usually don't know squat about detailing. They get paid $6.50 an hour to wash cars and they don't usually know much about the more technical aspects of detailing. I highly doubt they wetsanded it. More than likely they just used a rubbing compound that was as abrasive as 2000 grit sand paper and then told you they wetsanded it. There is a huge difference between what you can fix between the two. I would still take it to a detail shop and see what they tell you.
