GreenGoblin
This should be pretty straight forward but for some reason the front passenger axle won't stay put in the transmission. It slides in but will not snap in place. The driver side seems ok. What am I missing???
BAC5.2
If you have stubs on the transmission (female axles), you need to insert the double roll pin. If you have stubs on the axles (female transmission), make sure the circlip is on the axle groove. jamal
Assuming this is for your 97gt, the stub is held in with a cir-clip. You would have to take the trans case apart to remove or install it. The axle is held onto the stub with a roll pin.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion that the roll pin on the axle was possibly missing. I'll remove the axle tomorrow to get a better look. Does anyone have pics of this setup
GreenGoblin
Found some more info here: http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/66-problems-maintenance/23368-ring-clips-cv-joint-axle.html Looks like I need a c-clip at the end of the axle stub. It might have fell off when we were doing other repairs. The trans whines really loud over 50mph and a loose axle is just plain dangerous.
