bangmika
Head Gasket leak at 183,000 miles and it's time for a transplant. I'm just wondering if this engine generation is the same one I have in my 98 GT 5MT. Here is a link to a company that sells the EJ25D. I see they claim its a 165 hp EJ25D DOHC but from a 94-96 legacy. Though according to wiki the EJ25D produced 155hp until 1996. 1. Is this really the same DOHC 165HP version in our lagging by a few years USDM subaru's? And I could use everything including my ECU in my car? 2. Did the JDM EJ25D engine have the same head gasket leaking issues? and should I replace the HG's before I transplant this engine into my car? subikid90
1. Yes it is the same motor for the most part 2. This has not been confirmed because most JDM motors do not make it past 100k, which is when the headgasket issues tend to start. The JDM motor will drop into your car but you will need to drill and tap for EGR, and swap intake manifolds. You can get away without doing this if you do not have to pass emissions, but you will always have a check engine light on. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
