boxerbenny
Hi All, I am currently looking at buying a 2006 M/T sedan with 60K miles. The owner said the clutch has been replaced recently. The car is completely stock and the owner claims it is not driven hard, tracked, etc. In my experience, shouldn't clutches last longer than 50-60K miles when not abused? For comparison: My Corvette had 60K miles when I bought it and it had been driven hard and taken to the drag strip. I replaced the clutch at 70K miles. 700watts
I wouldn't worry too much, most likely the previous owner couldn't drive stick..
boxerbenny
If that is the case I would worry about the synchros. It is also a one owner car, so if that is the case I sure hope he learned!
06GRPLGT
Because the LGT is heavy and has plenty of traction, just a few hard launches in a row can lead to clutch replacement. 60k is definitely premature, so he either backs up a steep driveway every day, or drives it hard. Even someone learning to drive stick shouldn't be that bad. I wouldn't necessarily discard this car as an option though because a recently replaced clutch does mean you shouldn't have to do it for a long time. Ask for a receipt. suds2250
I would hope the seller has the service records. 335HP/360Tq VF-22/1820 clone with Meth
Berzerklo
60K is a bit premature, but it is certainly not out of the ballpark.
KartRacerBoy
My clutch lasted 102k miles with 87k of those miles on at stage 2 mods. I didn't beat the car at all. If the previous owner needed a new clutch at 60k, he played racecar all the time or was a complete idiot who didn't know how to drive a clutch. Despite previous post, it IS out of the ballpark if you drive like a grownup. Beware your transmission.
StoplightAssassin
100k miles and I'm on my 3rd clutch, but I do autox quite a bit. Also the trans is in pretty good shape. The synchros all work fine.
06GRPLGT
^^^ I h8 u. I wrecked my tranny before my first clutch. $$$ And yeah, I forced it into gear a lot and learned a hard lesson.
GEE-OTTO
approaching 100K on a stock clutch with lots of life left. I will probably replace it at 100K as a preventative service. I would hate for a 100K clutch to let go in stop-n-go traffic in 98 degree temps or 17 degree cold
Fernely
144000 miles stage 2 for the last 60000 miles stock clutch lots of autoxing and lots of stop and go traffic. Whomever owned the car did not know how to drive a manual. Just my personal experience hope it provides some insight.
shutterbc
I went about 80K miles on my first clutch and that's what I learned on. Then I switched jobs and deal with start-stop traffic on a 40% grade in downtown Boston. Something tells me I won't be so lucky next time unless I figure out how to start in first gear with "zero slip". At least I am not beating the drivetrain to death. Yamifanatic
Yes it sounds like either he beat on it hard or the dealer wanted to make a buck, my buddys sti went 60k on a stock clutch and subaru was nice enough to cover it under warranty, and he drove the balls out of it. SBT
The dealership replaced the FW, Pressure Plate, Disk, and TOB on mine under warranty when the PP failed at 53K. Car was daily driven, never beaten-on and was unmodded. Seems like the Sachs clutch bits had some production issues which Subaru later fixed by going to the SMFW setup. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
dingbang
Stock replaced at 74k miles (TOB gave up on life, clutch bits would have shortly followed the TOB), ACT replaced at 92k miles (bad pressure plate, clutch disk was fairly worn tho), Comp 700 miles and counting.....lol
alex843
142k on stock clutch, stock tune. Daily driven car, some stop n go mainly highway. TOB replaced at 96k under warranty. I'm curious who has the most miles on a stock clutch.
Mark Bryan
My 05 5mt wagon had a clutch/flywheel replacement at 46k....prior owner also paid $675 for a replacement dmfw, fer cripes sakes! Mark
SBT
All of that could have been covered under PT warranty, especially if the pressure plate failed like it did on mine. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
GTTuner
128K, on my third clutch. The second one was a crappy Spec for the DM flywheel, what a mistake. I have never blown a clutch in my 20 years of driving, these cars are tough on clutches. Then again, 325+ ftlb of wheel torque doesn't help. I currently have the ACT HD-SS set up, the best clutch in there so far by a wide margin. I do miss the DM flywheel, nice and heavy and it dampens so much NVH compared to the WRX SM. sconnierider
Sounds like its early but can be explained by driving conditions to an extent. I am thinking 85 K is not ar off average.
