Fett32
I have a 1990 legacy awd, automatic, stock everything. The engine just died on it, so I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on what to swap. I can find good 1995 EJ25 engines for about $1000, but I don't know if it would go in easily. I'm looking to upgrade the horsepower a bit, and maybe have an engine that is worth modifying/improving down the road. Any ideas? Thanks!
1055
Fwd or awd? Which engine is in it now? If its fwd, a pI 2.5 is a fun swap. If its awd, put a 2.2 in it and enjoy your next 200,000 miles worry free.
Fett32
Its an AWD, so sounds good. So just the regular stock EJ22? Do you know of any good places to get one? (I'm in east texas)
Fett32
I found this: http://www.torontojdm.com/cart.php?target=product&product_id=4697&category_id=115 Do know how hard the swap would be? (I'm probably going to have a shop do it, so its more an idea of how much it would cost) I know its not the EJ22, but none of the shops carry the EJ22 right now for some reason... 1055
The 22 is just a bullet proof motor. Awd + 22 = go forever. The 2.5 isnt a bad motor.. and you can run it right off your 2.2 intake manifold, sensors and ecm if you want some extra oomph.
monkeyposeur
A stock EJ22E will be the easiest to swap. They are plentiful and really easy to work on. If you get a pre 97 22E it is also non interference meaning your timing belt or any timing component can fail and your heads will suffer no damage.
