Screamin
My grill is starting to lose it's chrome. There are a few spots starting to peal up and I want to know if someone has ever "de-chromed" their grill. I plan on plasti-dipping my grill but I want to do this first. I haven't tried to...pick at it yet so I do not know how easy or hard it is to remove.
No DRFT
Most would say plastic dip it. Underneath the layer of fake chrome is plastic. Plastic dip comes off as if it was vinyl. I have no control over drippie.
mr.hicksta
Don't even waste your time dechroming it. PlastiDip, plastidip, plastidip
fahr_side
I used Ferric Chloride to take the chrome off mine, though these days Ammonium Persulfate is more popular with the DIY PCB guys. Under the plating is nice smooth black plastic that doesn't even need painting to look good and will not chip, flake or peel. Just be nice and dispose of the chemicals properly. Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs. underground000
use sand paper to smooth out the chrome > plastic areas then use finer sand paper to smooth the surfaces then plastidip just did my grill:) http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt49/underground000/c4238fe1.jpg?t=1336783935 5eat downshift rev match:) Powder coated wheels: completed:)
Screamin
This is why I need to remove my chrome, I can't just plasti-dip it. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c259/screamin_z/grill2.jpg http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c259/screamin_z/grill1.jpg
BDII
Soak it in brake fluid. The fake chrome should peel off. It will also remove all of the other paint on the grill and leave you with a good surface for plastidipping. Need forum help?
