94legacy22
so just picked up the 2012 legacy for my wife, now the drivers side head gasket blew in my 94 legacy!!! it is leaking coolant out of the bottom of the head. torn on what i should doo. dont really have the money to get another car. I had planed on doing a motor swap in it but dont have the money for it right now. should i just park it and wait or do the headgaskets now till i can do the motor swap later. its got 143k miles on it. doesnt really leak oil, but it does use a little. bout half quart every 700miles. monkeyposeur
Just do the HGs! It's a bit of work, especially if it is your first time. But it's not too hard, just time consuming. What kind of motor swap were you going to do?
94legacy22
was thinking about a 2.5 or wrx turbo swap. IDK just bad timing i guess
monkeyposeur
Headgaskets are $30 or so each. If you want to do a swap but still have a DD until you get the swap bits ready just do the HGs. It will be good practice for when you do your later swap. You will need to borrow/buy/make an engine hoist. If the heads never got too hot they might not even need to be machined. You can do this job pretty cheap if you just want to get it running again.
