Poor '97 gt stolen, getting 05 lgt?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

So went to go to work last week....and my '97 lgt was gone.

got the police report and talked with insurance. I'm gonna assume it's gone. Luckly I didnt have to much done to it (heads and full exhaust, a RFRB grill, rebuilt engine). Not sure how much insurance is gonna give me for it, hoping 5-6k.

Anyhoo......

Fell in love with the 05-09 lgt expecially the wagons and just sold my drag/track car (built '94 cobra sold for $10k). I figure I can put that money down on a newer lgt, dont want the final prive much over 14k. Was looking at a couple cars around here....havn't called anyone yet

Anything in particular I should look for in these cars as far as problems to look for and possible repairs that would be coming up in the future. Thanks

Up to date maintenance !!! Question the paper work of a car that had a blown turbo replaced under warranty but not the block. Not sure how you feel about mods if you dont mind them talk to the owner, most of us try to mod with care and not hack together bits to make the car faste,r cooler etc. If the car seems suspect it just might be, I have been on the search for an LGT for a while at the price I want and i find cars that have been slapped back together a traded. I test drove a LGT once and the clutch went out with the salesperson in the car with me, this, after he assured me that this was a solid care and well taken care of

Test drive the one you gravitate towards, the clutch shouldnt take the same effort to operate as a 200 lb leg press (if you want a manual) listen for noise out of the gearbox and how it shifts (if you want auto)

Dont rule out higher mileage LGTs, people are gun shy about a 80K+ mile car but if it is well taken care of the odometer is the only way to tell the mileage;) You can find great higher mileage 08-09 legacys for under $20K hell there are two Spec.Bs on this forum for sale UNDER $20k. Also the 05-07s are all good cars so there is a broad range and chance you will be able to find an LGT that fits your style and budget you might be about to pay cash for one after you get the insurance settlement + your drag car sale.

ya i figured a little tasteful modding (grill, rims, lower it a bit then do the exhaust). Gonna go get approved for an auto loan tomorrow probably. starting to wonder if I should just raise my price range since I'd rather get something newer with less miles if I can easily put 10k down. Never had to do car payments before and really dont want to haha

well today got interesting

sold the cobra and literally 5 mins later the cops called and said they found my car. went and got it. no damage to exterior (except being dirty as ****), no damage to the interior (minus the cleaning i have to do now), and the car runs and drives just fine still

still have money burning a hole in my pocket though lol. Still interested in possibly buying and just turning the BD into a long term project (which i eventually wanted to do)

checked out this one today

i figure i can haggle them down to....eh say 19k? 64k on the odo. I've heard that they may start having turbo seal issues (well turbos in general) around 100k....is this right? Not that it would pursued me to not go after it.

is that price correct? seems high for an 07 but im no expert on getting these used. also, the car pictured is silver while the text under it says it is black.
