frank_ster
But a low mounted turbo that doesn't heat up a tmic doesn't suck Well it's not just the turbo location that heats the intercooler heat from the radiator fans and heat from exhaust travel up. But the major factor is the blow off valve that is open at idle. The turbo is hot it transfers heat to the air the turbo is actually pushing air even at idle the hot air is cooled by the intercooler then some is returned to the inlet of the turbo for reheating and a the rest is actually used by the engine So the low mounted turbo only reduces the radiant heat but thie intercooler will still get hot. On mine I tightened up te spring on the bov so that it's not bypassing at idle. I found this to help a lot maybe this is also done on the newer subarus also Now that's thinking out of the boxer! fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader
