Pick something warm in the browns, like Behr Harvest Brown. My ex wife and I picked it for our entire living/dining/hallway and it was very nice with bright white trim and hardwood floors. It looks dark, but it isn't at all, and lots of other colorswork with it.

In fact in this link there is a pic of a staircase with wood treads and white trim.

Nice neutral color. We have some similar shades in our house.

This is the only picture of the brown I have... this brown took 3 coats to cover up satin white. Yes, my living room is bright green and yes, I did it. I think it works with the white trim, black and grey furniture, and the hardwood.

A tad too bright for me, but not bad at all. Our bedroom is a pale green. Very soothing. Still in the earth tones (almost).

We like Sherwin Williams. Luckily they can match colors from Behr or Valspar if we want to.

My father-in-law, who used to work for Pulte, says that Behr is the most popular paint in the U.S. because it's the cheapest, and just like with anything else, you get what you pay for.

baconbits, I think that brown looks awesome, but I'm not sure my wife will go for it.

We only use Sherwinn Williams. Every room in our house is SW. We'll use killz primer or something, but otherwise all SW. My wife does most of the painting, and she hates the cheaper paints. I must say, I can tell a difference as well.

I have a Sherwin within walking distance of my house... the $80/gal steers me away.

I really need to hit up my cousin for the "friends and family" discount considering he works at their corporate offices here in Cleveland.

It's only ("only" ;)) like $50 a gallon for Emerald (top-of-the-line) interior paint, and they send out 30% off coupons all the time. Their exterior Emerald is like $70 a gallon, but that shit is worth it. One thin coat covers whatever you currently have, even with a brush rather than a roller.

Honestly, the lighting in that picture is pretty bright so it washes out the green and makes it more neon. Here's one from this past Christmas... opposite end of the spectrum and a little dark, but I think it gives you guys a good idea. It's extremely relaxing, especially with the nature theme we're going for (in search of framed forest pictures, etc).

I like Benjamin Moore Aura a lot. It is super pricey though. Very low VOC (can almost paint with the windows closed), dries quickly and covers well. They also have Matte finish which is really nice (slightly shinier than flat)

If you want to spend A LOT on paint, it's excellent.

Replaced old ugly pink sink, with new cheap white Ikea sink. Point was a good stopgap until we redo the bathroom. Old owner loved this orangish / pink color and it's everywhere....

This was the old stuff ( I have replaced the toilet and sink with something white now)

After (my trap is retarded because I didn't feel like messing with the Ikea connection pipes. Seems to work though....)

I'm not sure if I will have many before pictures but we're renovating a townhouse to rent out and have pretty much gutted/touched every piece of it so far except the exterior....this is going to be fun....

What color should I paint the walls in the stairwell? Wife is thinking a light green.

Steps look great, Fulton!

Painted my Mom's bedroom with this (from BM Williamsburg palette) a couple of years back; it might be the right brown for that cherry.

Well, after six awesome years in my first home, I will be putting her up for sale. My wife and I have always wanted to move out of the city. I grew up in the woods, she grew up in a very small rural town. So after a year of searching we have finally found a place we love and entered into a contract on it.

It's a nice, newish (10 yrs old), very modest house (2300ft2 4bed 2 full 2 half bath) on 8 acres. No neighbors. Lower taxes. Shoot deer from my bedroom window.

It's kind of bitter-sweet right now but I'm sure the bitter will fade quickly once we are moved.

8 acres. 2300 Sq ft home. Modest. Shoot.

These are all words you don't hear in the same sentence in Connecticut.

Lol. 35 miles northeast of Pittsburgh and anywhere in CT are very different places. I'd be eating ramen noodles if I lived in CT.

Congrats dude! We just signed papers as well, it's out in the hills east of Reading. Good seeing you in Texas, hope to see you again before too long.

  • 5 weeks later...

The first two pictures I have shared before (under my old username - OB2.5XT).

Centrally located fireplace. It blocked the living room from the kitchen door. we paid to have this removed and a skylight installed.

This was much better, but I had my family over for the weekend and anyone (i.e. my wife) who was in the kitchen was completely excluded. The following week I called an engineer and got the go ahead to knock-down the wall.

As it has stood for a few months. Needs lots of drywall repair. The hood was designed for flush mount on a flat surface. Mounting it inside the ceiling was fun.

We put the inside on hold so we could create an area outside.

Before. Garden beds and pink tiles took up most of the area. I have moved one of the beds and stacked the tiles off to the side. I did not plan out where to put the tiles at all. I think we moved them around the yard 6-7 times.

Awkward sized deck. Too small for a table. Too big for the backyard. The plan is to make it smaller and have a staircase coming off the front and one side.

My helpers. They excel at turning level surfaces into a mess and walking exactly where you don't want them.

Bunch of work has gone in at this point. Neighbor had extra decomposed granite, put that by the tree. Border is pressure treated wood hammered into the ground with rebar.

We stained the tiles charcoal / black. Filled in with dirt / gravel and tamped everything down. Covered with weed cloth and screed sand to "flat"

Almost done

Moved the support for the deck back and cut it shorter. I'll build stairs coming straight down the front and to the side (to land on the patio)

My fiancee's family is from Clarksburg/Saltsburg, close to Indiana. Once we get WA state out of our systems we are likely headed there to retire. Might buy property ahead of time if the $ is right.

Part of Saltsburg was in my school district growing up. ( Kiski Area) I'm moving to Upper Burrell Twp
